After a Wednesday night time tweet from the president, the White Home confirmed Thursday morning that the U.S. ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, will take over as the appearing director of national intelligence.

Grenell, a staunch Trump ally and defender who beforehand worked for President George W. Bush‘s administration, is believed to be the first brazenly homosexual man in a cabinet-level place, The New York Times reported.

President Donald Trump announced the information on Wednesday night on Twitter, while the White House press secretary, Stephanie Grisham, made an official statement the subsequent morning.

Critics have been quick to level out that Grenell, 53, has no intelligence experience to deliver to the place.

Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, a Democrat who's the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, voiced his displeasure on Twitter late Wednesday night time.

“It appears the President has chosen a person *without any intelligence expertise* to function the leader of the nation’s intelligence group in an appearing capacity…,” Warner wrote in a five-part thread blasting the president’s determination to select Grenell.
