After a Wednesday night time tweet from the president, the White Home confirmed Thursday morning that the U.S. ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, will take over as the appearing director of national intelligence.
Grenell, a staunch Trump ally and defender who beforehand worked for President George W. Bush‘s administration, is believed to be the first brazenly homosexual man in a cabinet-level place, The New York Times reported.
President Donald Trump announced the information on Wednesday night on Twitter, while the White House press secretary, Stephanie Grisham, made an official statement the subsequent morning.
“I am pleased to announce that our extremely revered Ambassador to Germany, @RichardGrenell, will grow to be the Appearing Director of National Intelligence,” Trump, 73, wrote. “Rick has represented our Country exceedingly nicely and I look ahead to working with him.”
Grenell’s position as “appearing” director means he will only have the ability to serve in the position for a most of 210 days, according to NPR.
He may even proceed to carry his ambassadorship while he serves in his new position.

Critics have been quick to level out that Grenell, 53, has no intelligence experience to deliver to the place.
Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, a Democrat who's the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, voiced his displeasure on Twitter late Wednesday night time.
“It appears the President has chosen a person *without any intelligence expertise* to function the leader of the nation’s intelligence group in an appearing capacity…,” Warner wrote in a five-part thread blasting the president’s determination to select Grenell. Grenell has lengthy been a vocal defender of Trump’s overseas policies, including the president’s controversial arguments that Germany isn’t paying sufficient into the worldwide NATO alliance.
