Ivanka Trump Evokes Princess Diana's Famous Taj Mahal Photo: The Story Behind That 1992 Pic

Almost 30 years later and underneath very totally different circumstances, President Donald Trump‘s daughter Ivanka Trump posed for pictures on Monday outdoors the Taj Mahal in India, sitting on a bench not removed from the place Princess Diana herself sat outside the iconic mausoleum in 1992.

The photograph of Ivanka, one of many president’s senior aides, was shared on her Instagram while she is on the two-day trip with her father. “The grandeur and great thing about the Taj Mahal is awe inspiring!” she wrote.

President Trump and his workforce might be in India by way of Tuesday to satisfy with the prime minister, Narendra Modi, and concentrate on commerce and protection.

The president and the primary woman, Melania Trump, have been joined by Ivanka and Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, on the Taj Mahal on Monday afternoon after attending a “Namaste Trump” rally earlier within the day at the world’s largest cricket stadium.

“I'm honored to return to India with @POTUS and @FLOTUS to rejoice that the grand friendship between the world’s two largest democracies has never been stronger!” Ivanka, 38, wrote on Instagram this week.

She and Kushner, 39, together have a sweeping portfolio of points in the Trump administration — she on workforce and household insurance policies; he on the Center East, legal justice reform and the 2020 re-election campaign, amongst different subjects — and each have regularly faced criticism that they're unqualified for his or her roles, which some call nepotistic.

That scrutiny didn't abate with the India journey.

Alyssa Mastromonaco, a key aide in Barack Obama‘s White Home, cracked on Twitter, “why am I paying for his or her 2nd honeymoon omfg” — referring to a photo of Ivanka and Kushner at the Taj Mahal.

The history of Diana’s own bench photograph there three many years ago is far totally different. It is, in miniature, a narrative of isolation.

Diana visited the monument alone in February 1992 because her then-husband, Prince Charles, was busy with work. In probably the most famous picture of her there, she sat on a bench now affectionately generally known as “Woman Di’s Chair.” (That same bench is seen in Ivanka’s photograph from this week, simply behind where Ivanka is sitting.)

Her marriage was bedeviled by rumors about problems behind the scenes. Since her divorce and death, the photograph has been seen by many as a mirrored image of her life at that crossroads.

“It was an interesting experience — very healing,” Diana informed reporters at the time of the Taj Mahal.

She added only this: “Work it out for yourself.”

Months later, she and Charles cut up.
