Biden ad: Sanders undermined Obama's reelection

Joe Biden’s marketing campaign is airing a brand new digital advert in South Carolina accusing Bernie Sanders of making an attempt to undermine Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection by threatening to main him.

“Relating to building on Barack Obama’s legacy, Bernie Sanders just can’t be trusted,” the new ad, first obtained by POLITICO, warns.

The shot at Sanders comes as Biden attempts to blunt the Vermont senator's momentum coming off of a landslide win in Nevada. Biden is trying to shore up his personal power with African People, who on Saturday will play an outsized position for the first time in the 2020 main cycle.

“Once we rallied together to defend our president and all of the progress he made that they had his back,” the narrator says. Then, panning to then vice chairman Joe Biden, the voice-over continues, “He had his back,” and shifting to pictures of African American supporters at an Obama rally, says “And you had his back.”

The ad then shifts to a black and white image of Bernie Sanders.

“But back in Washington, there was one man with another plan,” the narrator says earlier than an audio clip is heard of Sanders saying, “I feel it will be a good suggestion if President Obama faced some main opposition.”

The ad is part of a broader $600,000 digital buy in South Carolina that the marketing campaign is contemplating spinning right into a broadcast advert.

“Bernie Sanders was critically enthusiastic about difficult our first African American president in a main,” the narrator says, citing an Atlantic report entitled: “The Hidden History of Sanders’s Plot to Main Obama.”

The Sanders marketing campaign denies that Sanders ever had designs about mounting a main marketing campaign towards Obama.
