McConnell stands by Barr amid Stone sentencing fallout


Senate Majority Chief Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Home Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) reiterated their help Tuesday for William Barr after the lawyer basic was closely criticized over the Justice Division’s handling of Roger Stone’s legal case.

In a joint statement, McConnell, McCarthy and Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) referred to as Barr a “man of the highest character and unquestionable integrity” and highlighted his earlier Senate confirmations.

“Recommendations from outdoors groups that the Lawyer Basic has fallen in need of the obligations of his office are unfounded,” the lawmakers stated. “The Lawyer Basic has shown that he's dedicated without qualification to securing equal justice underneath regulation for all People. … The nation is fortunate that President Trump selected such a robust and selfless public servant to steer the Division of Justice.”
