Selena Gomez Says She Thinks About Undocumented Immigration 'Every Day' in Passionate Essay

“But once I read the news headlines or see debates about immigration rage on social media, I really feel afraid for those in comparable conditions. I feel afraid for my country,” she wrote.
“It captured the shame, uncertainty, and worry I saw my circle of relatives wrestle with,” she wrote of the docu-series. “However it also captured the hope, optimism, and patriotism so many undocumented immigrants nonetheless hold in their hearts regardless of the hell they go through.”
In September, Gomez shared a trailer for the docu-series on her Instagram account, writing within the caption, “I am so humbled to be a part of Netflix’s documentary collection Dwelling Undocumented. The immigration concern is more complicated than one administration, one regulation or the story you hear about on the information.”
She continued, “These are actual individuals in your group, your neighbors, your mates – they are all a part of the country we name house. I can’t await you guys to see this and hope it impacts you like it impacted me.”

Within the TIME essay, Gomez continued to tell the story of how she met three of the individuals featured in the collection and spoke of their problem to go to school and even sleep in their own mattress for worry of ICE knocking on their door.
“I’m involved about the best way individuals are being treated in my country,” she wrote, saying that she feels it is her “duty” as a Mexican-American lady to make use of her “platform to be a voice for people who are too afraid to speak.”
“And I hope that getting to know these eight families and their tales will inspire individuals to be more compassionate, and to study more about immigration and type their very own opinion,” she continued.
“Worry shouldn’t stop us from getting involved and educating ourselves on a problem that impacts hundreds of thousands of people in our nation,” the “Wolves” singer wrote. “Worry didn’t cease my aunt from moving into the again of that truck. And for that, I'll all the time be grateful.”
