Pelosi seeks broader Syria briefing after secret session on Baghdadi raid

The Home still needs a broader briefing on Syria from the Trump administration after a categorised session largely targeted on last weekend's raid that killed Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated Wednesday.

Congressional leaders have pressed the administration to temporary lawmakers within the days following President Donald Trump's transfer to withdraw troops from northern Syria and Turkey's army assaults towards Kurdish forces there, which earned bipartisan scorn.

"We're privileged to get the briefing on the successful ... particular forces killing of al-Baghdadi, but ... we've got yet to get the other briefing," the California Democrat advised reporters on the Capitol.

"We still want the briefing on Syria," she stated.

In separate periods Wednesday, Protection Secretary Mark Esper, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley and different prime administration officers, outfitted with some video clips from the Baghdadi raid, briefed members of both the Home and Senate.

Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) stated "90 %" of the House presentation was associated to the raid, with some lawmakers pressing on the broader Syria state of affairs.

"They've got a second temporary deliberate to return again and speak extra about Syria generally," Bacon stated. "But the focus of this was all on the raid."
