NSC official to testify Trump undermined national security with Ukraine pressure

A senior White House official plans to tell House impeachment investigators on Tuesday that he believed President Donald Trump undermined U.S. national safety when he urged Ukraine’s president to research his political rivals, in line with a replica of his opening statement obtained by POLITICO.

“I didn't assume it was proper to demand that a overseas government investigate a U.S. citizen, and I was fearful concerning the implications for the U.S. government’s help of Ukraine,” Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a Nationwide Security Council official overseeing Ukraine coverage, plans to inform lawmakers, referring to Trump’s efforts to strain President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukrainian to research Joe Biden.

Vindman, who will grow to be the first White Home official to testify as part of the impeachment inquiry, also plans to testify that he reported Trump’s July 25 telephone name with Zelensky to the NSC’s prime lawyer. It was the second time Vindman had raised considerations to the NSC’s counsel concerning the Trump administration’s posture toward Ukraine.

“I noticed that if Ukraine pursued an investigation into the Bidens and Burisma, it might possible be interpreted as a partisan play which might undoubtedly end in Ukraine dropping the bipartisan help it has to date maintained,” Vindman plans to say, referring to the power company on whose board Biden’s son Hunter sits.

Vindman will grow to be the primary official who listened in on Trump’s July 25 telephone name with Zelensky to talk to lawmakers.
