Joe Manchin isn't feeling the Bern

Bernie Sanders is confident Joe Manchin will help his agenda if elected president. But the West Virginia Democrat is not so positive.

When requested by CNBC’s John Harwood whether or not Manchin and Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), one other average, would vote for his program, the Vermont senator and avowed Democratic socialist responded: “Damn right they may.”

In an interview Tuesday, Manchin stated he’s not seeing anything in Sanders’ platform to date that he’d again, such because the Inexperienced New Deal.

“What I hear [of] his agenda now I don’t help,” Manchin stated, including that his help would depend upon Sanders’ agenda. “He knows that ... We've got a unique means of doing issues and you already know I’m not going to vary who I am. I am who I'm, and I’ve all the time been that means.”

If Sanders have been to win the presidency, and Democrats take back the House and Senate, Manchin and different moderates would doubtless play an important position in figuring out whether or not or not his legislative agenda might succeed.

In his interview with CNBC, Sanders argued that Manchin would help his policy plans because he would take his message to West Virginia. Sanders gained the Democratic main in West Virginia in 2016.

“Your common politician sits round and she or he thinks, ‘Let’s see. If I do this, I’m going to have the large cash interests putting 30-second advertisements towards me,” Sanders advised CNBC. “However now they’re going to need to assume, ‘If I don’t help an agenda that works for working individuals, I’m going to have President Sanders coming to my state and rallying working-class individuals.’”

However thus far Manchin seems unmoved. He reiterated he does not help “Medicare for All” - Sanders’ signature marketing campaign problem which might remove personal medical insurance and place everybody beneath a single government-run medical insurance plan.

The West Virginia senator would fairly concentrate on addressing issues with Obamacare.

“It doesn’t work,” Manchin stated, of Medicare for All. “Principally we will’t pay for ‘Medicare for some’… I feel we should be fixing the Reasonably priced Care Act. And we acquired two payments that may do it and scale back the personal pay immensely. So yeah, we just have a difference on that.”
