A confrontation broke out Saturday between President Donald Trump and John Kelly after the former White Home chief of employees stated he warned his boss that changing him with a “sure man” would lead to his impeachment.
“I stated, no matter you do — and we have been still in the process of looking for somebody to take my place — I stated no matter you do, don’t hire a ‘sure man,’ somebody who gained’t inform you the fact — don’t do this,” Kelly told the Washington Examiner at a conference in Sea Island, Georgia. “Because should you do, I consider you may be impeached.”
Trump fired again at Kelly later Saturday, questioning the veracity of the retired Marine Corps common's remarks.
“John Kelly never stated that. He by no means stated something like that. If he would have stated that I might have thrown him out of the office,” Trump stated, according to CNN. “He just needs to return again into the motion like everyone else.”
White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham confirmed Trump’s response, including, “I labored with John Kelly, and he was totally unequipped to handle the genius of our nice President.”
Kelly, who served as Homeland Security secretary before being tapped for the chief of employees position, also took a thinly veiled shot at his successor, appearing chief of employees Mick Mulvaney, saying Trump isn’t being managed properly.
“That was virtually 11 months ago, and I've an awful lot of, to say the least, second thoughts about leaving,” Kelly stated. “It pains me to see what’s happening as a result of I consider if I was still there or somebody like me was there, he would not be type of, all over the place.”
