‘Lock him up’ chant greets Trump at World Series

The stadium greeted him with boos and chants of “Lock him up!” — a nod to the motto his supporters used towards former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2016.

President Donald Trump on Sunday was one of the many spectators at Recreation 5 of the World Collection between the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals. He and first woman Melania Trump took their seats alongside several lawmakers, together with Sen. Lindsey Graham, Rep. Matt Gaetz and Rep. Kevin McCarthy.

Trump was introduced to the gang shortly after the third inning in the course of the salute to veterans. At that time, the booing and chanting began. The gang did that on what had been a reasonably good day for the president; within the morning, Trump announced the dying of Islamic chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

This is the first yr since 1933 that Washington has had a group in the World Collection. In contrast to many presidential predecessors attending the Fall Basic, Trump declined to toss out the ceremonial first pitch — a process that went to chef José Andrés, a vocal Trump critic.

Trump did reduce potential disruptions for the gang by arriving after the beginning of the sport and leaving earlier than the finish.

“His view was that to make the fan experience as constructive as potential,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred told reporters Saturday. “He would arrive at Recreation 5 sometime after the game began so it wouldn’t intrude with followers moving into the stadium.”
