Drones drop packages on Virginia lawns in first-ever U.S. delivery


Residents in Christiansburg, Virginia had a birthday current and Tylenol dropped on their lawns by way of drone this afternoon, the primary deliveries of their sort in the USA.

Officials from the White Home and FAA have been watching as a drone, operated by a former Google undertaking now referred to as Wing, dropped packages on three yards. The trial is a part of DOT's UAS Integration Pilot Program.

Wing, which is operating the challenge with Virginia Tech's Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership, is collaborating with FedEx Categorical, Walgreens and the local Virginia retailer Sugar Magnolia. The undertaking is the first to receive approval from the FAA for business drone package deal supply in america.

Christiansburg resident Paul Sensmeier ordered a pink vest from Dick's Sporting Items as a birthday present for his spouse. The last mile of that FedEx Categorical supply, which would normally be by way of truck, was carried out with a Wing drone. Michael and Kelly Collver ordered tissues, water, Tylenol and cough drops from Walgreens.

The trial will proceed within the coming months, and Wing and MAAP plan to maintain working with Christiansburg.
