England soccer captain Harry Kane laughed as he said he was losing his voice in a hilarious post-game interview after England beat Mexico 3-2 at the World Cup.
The two nations played out a thrilling game at Mexico City’s historic Azteca Stadium on Sunday, July 5, and English players joined fans in a rendition of the Oasis hit “Wonderwall” after the final whistle, in what has become a tradition throughout the tournament.
Speaking to the BBC after the game, England captain Kane — who scored a penalty kick to put his team 3-1 up after about an hour — sounded very hoarse.

Attempting to tell reporter Kelly Somers about an injury sustained by midfielder Jordan Henderson, who fell awkwardly over an advertising board in the celebrations, Kane managed to say his teammate’s first name before interrupting himself, laughing, “My voice is gone.”
The Bayern Munich player continued, “We had to fight, we had to find something,” before adding, “I’ve just been singing there, I can’t really talk!”
An increasingly squeaky-voiced Kane, 32, then praised the fans for their “unbelievable support” in the stadium, adding that he was “speechless,” at which Somers told him to “go and rest that voice.”
In the BBC studio, host Kelly Cates joked that the interview would “go down in history,” while former England captain Wayne Rooney said it was “the best interview I’ve ever seen,” per The Independent.

“Wonderwall” became England’s unofficial World Cup anthem after the team beat Croatia 4-2 in its opening match on June 17, and players and fans sang it together at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Oasis’ Noel Gallagher described it as a “magical moment” a few days later, while his brother Liam poked fun at Kane in an X post shortly after his interview.
“It’s hard work that singing Harry Kane cmon ENGLAND cmon WONDERWALL,” the singer wrote in his typical unfiltered style.
When a fan told him he should fly out and sing “Wonderwall” on the field if England were to make the final, he quipped, “We’ll see, I’m ready.”

Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham opened the scoring for England in Sunday’s game with two goals 98 seconds apart, before Julián Quiñones halved the deficit for Mexico.
Kane then scored his penalty kick before Raúl Jiménez did the same for the North American team, making the final score 3-2.
