COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M coach Mike Elko admits he’s long been concerned that opponents will learn about the inner workings of his team.

That’s even more true this week as the ninth-ranked Aggies host Kentucky with former defensive coordinator Jay Bateman now in the same job with the Wildcats.

“People would tell you I’m probably on the extreme paranoid end when it comes to things like that,” Elko said. “I’m on probably like the seventh version of terminology in the last eight years and probably the third or fourth version of offensive terminology in my four years as a head coach. I probably live on the uber paranoid side of that.”

Bateman spent two seasons as Elko’s defensive coordinator before leaving to join Will Stein when he was hired as Kentucky’s coach this offseason.

Texas A&M senior cornerback Dezz Ricks said it will be good to see Bateman when the Wildcats come to town.

“I’m definitely looking forward to playing them,” Ricks said. “I have nothing bad to say about coach Bateman. I’ve known him since I was in eighth grade. Recruited me for a long time. Definitely looking forward to the matchup.”

The Aggies are looking to start 3-0 in consecutive seasons for the first time since doing so in three straight years from 2014-16.

Kentucky will try and bounce back after a 45-17 loss to No. 12 Alabama last week. The Wildcats led 17-13 at halftime before being outscored 32-0 in the second half.

“We did not show up on offense in the second half,” Stein said. “It’s almost impossible to win with three turnovers and making 1 of 14 on third downs. We’ve got to be able to generate and create explosive plays, move the ball down the field.”

The Aggies were in a tight game with Arizona State last week before using two defensive touchdowns to help them score 24 points in the fourth quarter and get a 48-20 victory.

Kentucky is looking for a win over a ranked team for the first time since beating No. 6 Mississippi 20-17 on Sept. 28, 2024.

Running it back

The Aggies returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the fourth quarter Saturday to help turn a close game into a blowout.

The first came when T.J. Searcy hit Cutter Boley as he threw and 261-pound defensive end Marco Jones grabbed the ball and rumbled 55 yards for the score.

Texas A&M was up 41-20 later in the fourth when Julio Humphrey intercepted Boley and returned it 45 yards for another score.

It was the first time the Aggies had an interception for a touchdown since 2024 and the first time they’d had two in the same game since Sept 25, 1999.

Those interceptions came on a day Texas A&M forced four turnovers.

“Four turnovers led to 24 points, on a day where both sides were not playing at their best; not firing at their best,” Elko said. “Those turnovers obviously made a huge difference in the game.”

Taking the blame

Stein, who spent the last three seasons as Oregon’s offensive coordinator, took the blame for his team’s second half collapse against the Crimson Tide.

And the 36-year-old vowed to improve moving forward.

“We’ve got to play better,” he said. “There’s lots to learn from the tape. It really starts with me. I’ve got to do a better job as head coach, get these guys really prepared to finish games. I think that’s the big thing, finishing games.”

Reed’s performance

The Aggies came away with a convincing win against Arizona State thanks to their late defensive heroics despite an inconsistent performance from Marcel Reed.

He threw three touchdown passes but was just 15 of 25 for 163 yards with an interception.

“He was up and down, certainly better than the stats would say,” Elko said. “I don’t think he played poorly but there were some poor plays. But he bounced back and made some plays.”

Despite his subpar work last week, Stein knows how dangerous he can be.

“He’s got really good pieces around him, so he doesn’t have to make every play, but when the play does break down, he’s electric,” Stein said. “He can make every throw. He’s got a big arm ... when you watch their tape, this guy can rip it and makes the right decision a lot.”

The Yankees have their playoff spot. What they still need is Aaron Judge's' body to finally cooperate. New York's star left Wednesday's series finale in Minneapolis with a leg issue during the sixth inning with no team explanation. The New York Yankees captain had just returned on Sept. 8 from the 60-day injured list after missing 99 days with a broken rib.

The Yankees announced later that he left with lower right leg tightness. He was replaced by Heliot Ramos for his sixth-inning at-bat.

Judge dismissed the issue as precautionary and something he expected while ramping back up from his rib injury.

"There's going to be little things like this that come up, and I just thought it'd be best instead of pushing through it like I normally do, (to come out)," Judge told reporters. "I don't want to cost the team wins down the road."

Judge declined to clarify what the issue was, saying "lower body" when asked where he was hurt.

Manager Aaron Boone told reporters in Minneapolis that Judge will get treatment on Thursday, an off day for the Yankees, and then they will see where he is. Boone said he was not sure exactly where Judge's leg hurt or how it happened.

Aaron Judge's recent injury history

The Yankees were already easing Judge back with Judge being out since May 31. Boone had talked about workload management when discussing pulling Judge from games early and giving him days off to rest. The Yankees had given Judge Tuesday off.

What's next for the Yankees and Aaron Judge?

The Yankees are off Thursday before heading to Arizona, but Judge will be working to try and get his leg right. It could not have come at a worse time for the Yankees, who host division-leading Tampa Bay for a four-game series beginning Sept. 22.

Judge entered Wednesday hitting .243 with 18 home runs and 41 RBI in 65 games. He missed 84 games with a fractured right rib, an injury he had suffered before in 2019 and then apparently reinjured in April of this season.

With less than two weeks left in the season and the Yankees chasing the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East, New York can replace Judge in right field. They cannot replace his bat.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has overtaken Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing film in North American box office history, ending a record that had stood for more than a decade.

The superhero film hit $936.773m in ticket sales in the US and Canada after 47 days in cinemas, edging past the $936.66m earned by The Force Awakens after its release in 2015.

Brand New Day reached the record on Tuesday, when it added $915,084 to its running total, according to box office data.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Brand New Day sees Tom Holland return as Peter Parker, with Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, and Jon Bernthal also starring.

Set four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the film follows Peter as he lives alone in a world that no longer remembers him and devotes himself entirely to fighting crime as Spider-Man. But the strain of that isolated life triggers a mysterious physical transformation just as a powerful new threat emerges in New York.

Brand New Day opened in North American theatres on 31 July with $360.09m, itself a record for the biggest domestic opening weekend in history. It surpassed Avengers: Endgame, which opened with about $357m in 2019.

The new record is only the latest in a remarkable run for the fourth solo Spider-Man film starring Holland; Brand New Day became the fastest film ever to cross every major domestic milestone from $400m through to $900m, reaching $700m in 13 days, $800m in 19 days, and $900m in 36 days, according to Variety. In doing so, it became only the second film ever to pass $900m domestically, joining The Force Awakens.

The film's success has also helped make 2026 a record-breaking year for cinemas, contributing to the biggest summer at the global box office, which generated $4.765bn between May and the first week of September, according to The Guardian.

Brand New Day crossed $2bn worldwide in 17 days, reaching about $2.022bn after three weekends. It became only the eighth film to pass the $2bn mark and the second-fastest to do so, behind Avengers: Endgame, which reached the milestone in 11 days.

It was also the first film in the Spider-Man franchise to cross $2bn worldwide, surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home, which finished its original run with about $1.92bn.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Brand New Day sees Tom Holland return as Peter Parker (Sony/Marvel)

Worldwide, Brand New Day has taken about $2.45bn, putting it third on the all-time global chart behind James Cameron’s Avatar, which collected about $2.9bn, and Avengers: Endgame, which took $2.7bn. It saw a $932m opening weekend, making it the second-biggest worldwide launch in cinema history behind Endgame’s $1.22bn.

Brand New Day also passed $1bn globally in six days, making it the second-fastest film to reach that mark.

After spending six consecutive weekends at No 1 at the North American box office,Brand New Day slipped to second place in its seventh weekend, when Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock-starrer Practical Magic 2 opened at No 1 with $30m.

Alongside The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan’s epic in which Holland also stars, Brand New Day has helped take the actor’s cumulative worldwide box office to a reported $15.5bn. That puts him ahead of Zoe Saldaña, whose films have generated more than $15.4bn, making Holland the highest-grossing actor by cumulative film box office.

The film has seen rave reviews from critics, including The Independent’s Clarisse Loughrey, who called it “the best Spider-Man movie in more than 20 years.”

Much of the cast continued to pursue careers in entertainment following their time on the series

Three’s Company remains a nostalgic rewatch, even though it’s been nearly 50 years since the show went off air.

The sitcom starred John Ritter as Jack Tripper, Joyce DeWitt as Janet Wood and Suzanne Somers as Chrissy Snow — three eccentric roommates who weren’t supposed to be living together due to the landlord’s rules.

The cast’s chemistry and comedic timing defined the show, which aired for 172 episodes across eight seasons between 1977 and 1984. DeWitt recalled going all in on the physical comedy without “any hesitation or regard for safety or how you’re going to fall” while speaking with PEOPLE in September.

“You rehearse it like choreography so that you know the other person is safe and you will be too. Then you just fly at each other with all your energy and hope you bounce correctly backwards and that you survive it,” she said. “And the fun of that is extraordinary. And the audience, I think, can see and feel the realness of it and get caught up in the play of it, which is so joyful.”

So, where is the Three’s Company cast now? Here’s everything to know about what happened to them after the iconic sitcom ended.

John Ritter as Jack Tripper

On Three’s Company, Ritter played Jack, the third roommate in Janet and Chrissy’s two-bedroom apartment. He had already been working steadily in Hollywood for a decade before the show, including a recurring role on The Waltons, but it was Three’s Company that made him a star.

Ritter had a knack for physical comedy, which DeWitt told PEOPLE instantly harmonized with her own.

“I always say we communicated kinesthetically,” DeWitt said in September. “We didn’t even have to talk. My body knew what his body was going to do and his knew what mine was going to do. And that was just there from the moment that we met.”

After the show went off the air, Ritter starred in one of the show’s spinoffs, Three’s a Crowd, which lasted for one season between 1984 and 1985. He also starred in other long-running shows, like Hooperman from 1987 to 1989, Hearts Afire with Markie Post and Billy Bob Thornton between 1992 and 1995, Clifford the Big Red Dog from 2000 to 2003 and 8 Simple Ruleswith Kaley Cuoco from 2002 until his untimely death in 2003.

Ritter also starred in films like Problem Child and Problem Child 2, Sling Blade, Bad Santa and Bride of Chucky; and the original TV adaptation of Stephen King’s IT.

While filming 8 Simple Rules on Sept. 11, 2003, Ritter fell ill on set and was rushed to the hospital, where he was incorrectly diagnosed with a heart attack, which was actually a tear in his aorta. He died that night.

Ritter was married twice: to Nancy Morgan from 1977 to 1996, and to Amy Yasbeck from 1999 until his death. With Morgan, he had three kids: actor Jason Ritter, born in 1980; musician Carly Ritter, born in 1982; and actor Tyler Ritter, born in 1985. With Yasbeck, he had son Noah Ritter, born in 1998.

Since his father’s death, Ritter’s kids have gotten yearly preventive scans to care for their health, Jason told PEOPLE in September.

Suzanne Somers as Chrissy Snow

Somers played Chrissy, the bubbly secretary roommate.

She had small roles in films like American Graffiti before Three’s Company, but the show was her breakout role. However, she only appeared in the first four seasons. After a contract dispute — in which she demanded equal pay as her male costar — Somers was fired and replaced with Jenilee Harrison, playing Chrissy’s cousin, Cindy.

“The show’s response was, ‘Who do you think you are?’ ” Somers told PEOPLE in March 2020. “They said, ‘John Ritter is the star.’ ”

After being fired, Somers said, her offers dried up. “I probably would have never left network series,” she added. “I would have kept on going and probably been in every sitcom after that were it not to end the way it ended. But I was ostracized. So I went away.”

In that absence from television, she worked in Las Vegas, but then became the face of ThighMaster, an iconically 1990s piece of exercise equipment; she and husband Alan Hamel invested in the company and eventually sold 10 million units, per Today.com. She went on to launch a skincare brand and became an author several times over.

Somers had a show, She’s the Sheriff, from 1987 to 1989, and made her TV comeback as the mother of a Brady Bunch-style blended family on Step by Step, which aired for 160 episodes across eight seasons from 1991 to 1998.

She was married twice: to Bruce Somers Sr., with whom she had son Bruce Somers Jr., born in 1965; and to Hamel, whom she married in 1977. Somers died of complications from breast cancer on Oct. 15, 2023.

Joyce DeWitt as Janet Wood

DeWitt’s breakout role was as Janet, the sassy florist who lives in the apartment; she stayed with the show for all eight seasons.

“Whenever something about Three’s Company comes up, I have relentlessly said that it is my opinion that the only reason Three’s Company is worth remembering is that it created an opportunity for all of us to laugh together, to celebrate joy,” she said on Suzanne Somers: Breaking Through in 2012.

In September, DeWitt told PEOPLE it’s “mind-blowing” people are laughing at the show nearly 50 years later and she’s glad the sitcom has that staying power. “If as an actor you are given the opportunity to do something that will cause laughter, it’s a great gift that you get to do this,” she added.

After the show, DeWitt has focused mainly on stage work, appearing across the country in theatrical productions.

Comedic actor Don Knotts was already famous for his Emmy Award-winning role as Barney Fife on The Andy Griffith Showwhen he joined the cast of Three’s Company in its fourth season, replacing Mr. Roper as the trio’s nosy landlord. He appeared on the show for 115 episodes.

“He made me laugh so much,” Ritter’s son Jason told PEOPLE in March 2025 of watching Knotts on Three’s Company. “And his facial expressions and just his whole vibe was so funny to me on that show. And so it was a thrill for me to see him, to meet him.”

Three’s Company was Knott’s last major role on television, but he did appear in 18 episodes of former costar and good friend Andy Griffith’s Matlock from 1988 to 1992, and in movies like Cannonball Run II and Pleasantville.

He was married three times. With his first wife Kathryn Metz, he welcomed two children: Karen, born in 1954, and Thomas, born in 1957. He was married to his second wife, Loralee Czuchna, from 1974 to 1983. In 2002, Knotts married his third wife, actress Frances Yarborough, whom he was married to until he died of complications from lung cancer on Feb. 24, 2006.

Priscilla Barnes as Terri Alden

The day Cindy moved out of the apartment, Jack found a new roommate: Terri Alden (Priscilla Barnes), a nurse who treated him for a cut in the ER. Barnes joined the show in season 6 and stayed through the end.

At a May 2023 benefit for the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health, Barnes told PEOPLE about what the late actor was like on the set of their show.

“It was good that way, because when you do other shows, you get all different kinds of personalities, and a show was run by number one on the call sheet,” she said. “So if he had had a different personality, it would’ve been a different experience.”

In 1999, Barnes appeared with Jason in Mumford. “Jason and I had done a film together, a movie called Mumford, but he was 19 years old and I hadn’t seen him since he was 5 and screaming in the dressing room before our show,” she added. “That was a pleasure.”

Barnes was also in films like Mallrats and The Devil’s Rejects. From 2014 to 2019, she had a recurring role on Jane the Virgin.

She has been married to husband Ted Monte since 2003.

Norman Fell as Mr. Roper

Norman Fell won a Golden Globe for his role as the curmudgeonly landlord Mr. Roper on the first four seasons of the show, until he and TV wife, Audra Lindley, got their own spinoff, The Ropers. The show lasted one season from 1979 to 1980.

Fell became so well-known for his Three’s Company role that he struggled to land another series. “I walk down the street,” he said in an interview years later, “and I’m still [called] Mr. Roper.”

Fell had roles in films like Transylvania 6-5000 and For the Boys. He died on Dec. 14, 1998.

Lindley played Mrs. Roper, the comedic foil to her grumpy husband. Like her on-screen husband, Fell, Lindley left Three’s Company for The Ropers.

She became a cultural icon, especially for her character’s fashion sense: her iconic caftans still have a place in the zeitgeist.

Lindley appeared in films like The Relic and Troop Beverly Hills. She died in October 1997 after being diagnosed with leukemia.

Richard Kline played Larry Dallas, a used car salesman and Jack’s best friend who appeared in 130 episodes of Three’s Company.

Following the sitcom, the actor got involved in theater and made appearances on several TV shows including Murder, She Wrote, Matlock, Punky Brewster and Gilmore Girls. He continues to act, appearing in various productions including Blue Bloods.

Kline is also passionate about sharing his acting expertise. In May, he led a comedy workshop at the Pottsville Film Festival in Connecticut.

Park Service quietly awards contracts to work on Trump’s takeover of East Potomac golf course

By MATTHEW DALY Thu, September 17, 2026 at 12:31 AM UTC

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration has awarded contracts to begin work on President Donald Trump’s planned takeover of the East Potomac Golf Links in Washington, Democrats on the House Natural Resources Committee said Wednesday.

Rep. Jared Huffman of California, the panel's top Democrat, revealed during a committee hearing that the National Park Service hired a civil engineering firm to begin work on the historic public golf course, without any public announcement or heads-up to Congress. A lawsuit challenging Trump’s plan to revamp the golf course argues that the administration’s redevelopment would violate the congressional act that created the park more than a century ago.

“Now, this is not just any old golf course. This is a beloved public space with huge historic significance,” Huffman said.

Trump is “systematically moving to take this historic, publicly accessible resource and turn it into another gilded private golf club for the mega-rich,” Huffman said, calling the project “a methodical, deliberate effort to take a public park away from the people,” with American taxpayers footing the bill.

A contract approved last week authorizes nearly $400,000 for a Massachusetts-based company to perform environmental and historic preservation compliance work at the course, Huffman said. The park service has since posted a projected construction contract worth up to $49 million, with an expected solicitation date of Jan. 31, 2027.

“Democrats on this committee are tracking all of this. We’re going to keep dragging it all into the daylight until the public gets the answers we deserve,” Huffman said in a statement. “We’re not going to let Donald Trump walk off with our public lands. That park belongs to the American people, and I’m not willing to sit here and watch him simply steal it.”

The $389,355 award to Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc., which also has an office in Washington, D.C. and other parts of the country, follows months of activity at the park. The administration said this spring it has reached an agreement with Fazio Golf Design to draw up plans for the renovations. Trump has said he wants to turn the golf course into a world-class golf venue. It’s part of his grand vision for Washington, D.C., where he has torn down storied structures, remade or renamed others and deployed the National Guard for more than a year.

Huffman, Maryland Reps. Jamie Raskin and Glenn Ivey, along with District of Columbia Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton and Virginia Rep. Don Beyer, sent a letter to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and acting park service director Jessica Bowron demanding all documents, communications and records on the project.

“East Potomac Park does not belong to Donald Trump,” the lawmakers wrote. “It belongs to the American people, and it has for more than a century.”

An Interior Department spokesperson said late Wednesday that “the full course design is yet to be finalized, so any type of cost estimate speculation over an advance notice of solicitation is premature.”

East Potomac Park, including the East Potomac Golf Links, was created by a congressional act in 1897, which established the park for the “recreation and the pleasure of the people.” The course opened in 1919.

Trump, who has multiple projects underway in the capital city, including a $400 million White House ballroom and the soon-to-begin construction of his triumphal arch, began talking about the city’s public courses late last year.

Debris from the demolished East Wing of the White House was dumped at East Potomac, forming a three-story mound near one of its three golf courses, which remains there. The National Park Service has said that the debris tested positive for lead, chromium and other toxic metals.

“When completed, this Course will have the ability to host Major Golf Tournaments, including The U.S. Open, The Ryder Cup, The PGA Championship, and other top PGA Tour events,” Trump posted on social media in June. He said then that work was meant to begin on Sept. 1.

Some area residents fear the planned changes to the golf course risk altering the character of a place that has served Washingtonians of many stripes for more than a century. Turning the park into an upscale golf course will likely mean higher fees and a loss of public space, residents worry.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed on Wednesday to revoke the citizenship of those who criticize or "defame" soldiers in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in an upcoming documentary featuring killings in Gaza.

In a video statement posted to his social media, the prime minister escalated the campaign against the Oscar-winning filmmakers behind the documentary NAZA, which highlights mass civilian killings in Gaza. The name of the documentary is an acronym used by Israel's intelligence services to determine how many civilians they expect to die in an airstrike.

"We will revoke citizenship for anyone who defames IDF soldiers around the world - he will be deeply hurt in his pocket," Netanyahu said, adding that he will push for two government bills concerning defamation of IDF soldiers and the state of Israel.

The first bill will double the amount of a defamation claim to 1 million shekels without proof of damage. It will be submitted through the justice ministry.

The second bill will be submitted through the interior ministry and will push for the revocation of citizenship for anyone who is found to have defamed IDF soldiers and Israel in general from anywhere in the world.

"We will hit them in their pockets and also in their citizenship, because their place is not among us," Netanyahu declared.

Shot on the rooftops of Tel Aviv at night in extreme secrecy over three years, NAZA features testimony from 24 Israeli military insiders, including intelligence officers and soldiers, who give insight into the war in Gaza and what they say is the systemic killing of Palestinian civilians.

Netanyahu has accused those behind the film NAZA of incitement and antisemitism, while the head of the Israeli military has vowed to track down the soldiers who cooperated with the project.

The documentary alleges that Israel uses artificial intelligence to identify and bomb potential targets of the militant Hamas group in Gaza - often knowing that many civilians will likely be killed in an attack. The Israeli military has acknowledged using AI to help identify targets but says that a human being makes the final decision before a strike is carried out.

The reception in Venice set off a firestorm among Israel's leading politicians and military officials, many of whom have described NAZA as anti-Israel and lacking context. They all acknowledged they have not seen the film.

Netanyahu, his Cabinet members, and also the prime minister's opponents in next month's key elections have all lambasted the film, describing it as antisemitic and a part of a broader campaign to defame Israel.

"We are fighting global antisemitic incitement," Netanyahu said on Monday. "When it comes from within us, it's simply unbearable."

Israel's Culture Minister Miki Zohar called on Monday for the documentary's Israeli co-directors, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, to be stripped of their citizenship. Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, the Israeli military's chief of general staff, asked military prosecutors to investigate potential leaks in the film.

"This is a dangerous attempt to deny us the legitimacy to defend ourselves against the worst of our enemies," Zamir said.

Co-produced by The Guardian and Jonathan Glazer, who was behind the 2023 Oscar-winning The Zone of Interest, the film is the second documentary from Abraham and Szor. It follows their 2025 Oscar-winning No Other Land, which chronicled Palestinians in part of the occupied West Bank as they face home demolitions by Israeli troops and attacks by Israeli settlers.

The film is not yet available to audiences, though the filmmakers have said they intend to seek distribution in Israel, Europe, and the United States.

"The testimonies it contains are true and we believe they deserve to be heard. The interviews were given by confidential journalistic sources," The Guardian said in a statement.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears put together a dazzling offensive performance in their season opener.

But that was last weekend.

“We haven’t put up any points this week,” coach Ben Johnson said Wednesday.

It doesn't sound as if overconfidence is going to be an issue for Chicago when it faces the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday in its home opener at Soldier Field. The Vikings have won six in a row going back to last season, including a 39-22 victory over Green Bay in Week 1.

“You have that one, it’s really like 12 hours, they say 24, but it’s like 12 hours and then from there you move on to the next team,” Williams said.

Led by Williams and D'Andre Swift, the Bears beat the Carolina Panthers 59-37 on Sunday in the highest-scoring opener in NFL history. Williams passed for two touchdowns and ran for two TDs, and Swift rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns.

The Bears rolled to 291 yards rushing and 552 yards overall. But that's all in the past now.

“This is a week-to-week business,” offensive lineman Jonah Jackson said. “We know we have to perform week in and week out and we’re ready for it.”

Swift was selected as the NFC Offensive Player of the Week, but he was listed as limited for Wednesday's practice because of an ankle/knee injury. Right tackle Darnell Wright was held out because of a knee injury, and running back Kyle Monangai (hamstring), cornerback Malik Muhammad (ankle) and defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo (shoulder) were all listed as limited.

Swift said he was fine. He also was ready to put Week 1 in the rearview mirror.

“It’s over with already,” he said. “So what we’re doing in Week 2, that’s a whole different approach now. We got a big task ahead of us, one that we're looking forward to, but Week 1 over.”

The 24-year-old Williams looked decisive in the first game of his second season in Johnson's offense. He was 21 for 29 for 269 yards through the air. He also rushed for 65 yards on 10 attempts.

The performance raised the outside expectations for Williams and Chicago a year after the Bears won the NFC North for the first time since 2018. But Williams dismissed the idea of any carryover confidence from the offensive display against Carolina.

“The confidence aspect, it doesn’t come from going 1-0 the first week,” he said. “That’s not where it comes from, for at least myself and I would say for this team. But for myself, it comes from the work, it comes from the belief in my teammates. It comes from the belief of my coach. And that’s where it stems from.”

Williams and the Bears are playing their first home game since they lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round of the playoffs on Jan. 18. They went 7-3 at home last season.

“We talked in the preseason during training camp just how powerful it is to play at Soldier and we need to come away with home victories if we want this season to go the way we want it to,” Johnson said.
