The Yankees have their playoff spot. What they still need is Aaron Judge's' body to finally cooperate. New York's star left Wednesday's series finale in Minneapolis with a leg issue during the sixth inning with no team explanation. The New York Yankees captain had just returned on Sept. 8 from the 60-day injured list after missing 99 days with a broken rib.

The Yankees announced later that he left with lower right leg tightness. He was replaced by Heliot Ramos for his sixth-inning at-bat.

Judge dismissed the issue as precautionary and something he expected while ramping back up from his rib injury.

"There's going to be little things like this that come up, and I just thought it'd be best instead of pushing through it like I normally do, (to come out)," Judge told reporters. "I don't want to cost the team wins down the road."

Judge declined to clarify what the issue was, saying "lower body" when asked where he was hurt.

Manager Aaron Boone told reporters in Minneapolis that Judge will get treatment on Thursday, an off day for the Yankees, and then they will see where he is. Boone said he was not sure exactly where Judge's leg hurt or how it happened.

Aaron Judge's recent injury history

The Yankees were already easing Judge back with Judge being out since May 31. Boone had talked about workload management when discussing pulling Judge from games early and giving him days off to rest. The Yankees had given Judge Tuesday off.

What's next for the Yankees and Aaron Judge?

The Yankees are off Thursday before heading to Arizona, but Judge will be working to try and get his leg right. It could not have come at a worse time for the Yankees, who host division-leading Tampa Bay for a four-game series beginning Sept. 22.

Judge entered Wednesday hitting .243 with 18 home runs and 41 RBI in 65 games. He missed 84 games with a fractured right rib, an injury he had suffered before in 2019 and then apparently reinjured in April of this season.

With less than two weeks left in the season and the Yankees chasing the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East, New York can replace Judge in right field. They cannot replace his bat.
