There are so many different ways you can fall in love, and romantic comedies serve to remind us of that. Maybe you're dreaming of an unexpected romance, like in *Hit Man** *(2023). You could also be looking for a plot with strong female leads, such as *The Incredible Jessica James* (2017) or *People We Meet on Vacation** *(2026).

Whatever kind of love story you're in the mood for, you'll find your perfect match on our list of the best romantic comedies currently streaming on Netflix, as of July 2026.

13 Going on 30 (2004)

Jennifer Garner as Jenna Rink in '13 Going on 30'

Jennifer Garner as Jenna Rink in '13 Going on 30'. Columbia/Everett

Oh, to be 30 and flirty and thriving. That's what gawky 13-year-old Jenna (Christa B. Allen) wishes for her life in this beloved rom-com, not knowing that her wish is about to come true with a little help from magic wishing dust. She awakens in the body of her 30-year-old self (Jennifer Garner), now a fashion magazine editor, but, as she soon discovers, her path to success led to some collateral damage along the way — namely, her best friend and secret admirer, Matty (Mark Ruffalo), to whom she stopped speaking. As Jenna gradually falls in love with Matty, she also goes on a journey of self-discovery and figures out her priorities in life.**** What could have been a standard wish-fulfillment teen comedy soars with Garner as the lead. As EW's critic writes, "She cuts out all traces of adult consciousness, of irony and flirtation and manipulation, reducing herself to a keen, goggle-eyed earnestness that’s utterly beguiling." —*Kevin Jacobsen*

Alex Strangelove (2018)

Daniel Doheny as Alex Truelove and Antonio Marziale as Elliot in 'Alex Strangelove'

Daniel Doheny as Alex Truelove and Antonio Marziale as Elliot in 'Alex Strangelove'. Netflix

A coming-of-age rom-com that sees a popular teen wrestle with his sexuality may sound like a familiar narrative, but *Alex Strangelove* adds its own spin. Alex Truelove (Daniel Doheny) lives in an especially progressive and supportive environment for a high school tale, nearly void of the common prejudices against queerness. Still, Alex doesn't know what — or who — he wants, and he has to learn about himself before he can know for sure.

EW's critic praises the film's underlying theme beneath its (occasionally cringey) twists and turns, writing, "It's hard to fault the bigger message here: that we all deserve the right to be true to who we are, even if it takes a few hard turns — and some collateral emotional damage — to get there." —*Angela Andaloro*

Ali Wong as Sasha Tran and Randall Park as Marcus Kim in 'Always Be My Maybe'. Ed Araquel/Netflix

Who says you can't go home again? Ali Wong shines in this romantic comedy about childhood best friends who cross paths as adults after an awkward teenage romance ended badly. Fast forward 16 years, and life has taken celebrity chef Sasha Tran (Wong) and unsuccessful musician Marcus Kim (Randall Park) to some very different places. Much has changed, but their chemistry sure hasn't as the two come face-to-face with their many differences on the road to reconciliation. Throw in a disastrous double date featuring Keanu Reeves playing, well, Keanu Reeves, and you've got yourself a chaotic love triangle unlike any you've seen before. —*A.A.*

(From left to right): Justin Covington as Paul, Monica Raymund as Tina, Guillermo Díaz as Edgar, D’Lo as Tom, Becca Blackwell as Lucas, Billy Eichner as Bobby Lieber, Luke Macfarlane as Aaron Shepard, and Symone as Marty in 'Bros'. Universal Pictures

When *Bros* was released in 2022, it came with the pressure of being one of the first Hollywood studio rom-coms with a mostly out LGBTQ+ cast. Years later, it can best be enjoyed on its own terms, an often hysterical, well-observed examination of modern gay dating. Billy Eichner, who co-wrote the film with director Nicholas Stoller, stars as Bobby, a proudly single, outspoken podcast host who falls in love with a traditionally masculine estate lawyer (Luke Macfarlane). "Make no mistake, *Bros* is a very gay movie," writes EW's critic. "But it's also one cast very much in the mold of the best kind of [Judd] Apatow [film]: whip-smart, soft at heart, full of bravura free-form character bits and cul-de-sacs." —*K.J.*

Netflix has a relatively limited selection of pre-'90s titles on its service, but this hidden gem from 1981 is a fun examination of marriage and relationships. Featuring an all-star cast led by Alan Alda — who also wrote and directed the film — *The Four Seasons* follows three couples who frequently vacation together and soon find their dynamic changing when one of the husbands reveals he wants to divorce his wife. Tracking the peaks and valleys of their evolving friendships, the film takes place over four vacations, each relating to a specific season. Thoughtful and nuanced, *The Four Seasons* was adapted into a TV series on Netflix in 2025, co-created by and starring Tina Fey. —*K.J.*

The Half of It (2020)

Leah Lewis as Ellie Chu and Alexxis Lemire as Aster Flores in 'The Half of It'

Leah Lewis as Ellie Chu and Alexxis Lemire as Aster Flores in 'The Half of It'. KC Bailey/Netflix

In a modern retelling of the classic French play *Cyrano de Bergerac*, Ellie (Leah Lewis) starts ghostwriting love letters for a jock, Paul (Daniel Diemer), in exchange for some much-needed cash. But as she continues to correspond with Paul's dream girl, Aster (Alexxis Lemire), Ellie finds they have a lot in common and wonders if she's actually her better half. Though the romantic tension between Aster and Ellie pushes the film forward, the true heart of this story is the blossoming friendship between Ellie and Paul. He may not be able to write to save his life, but Paul speaks up where it counts, causing an intimate and (somewhat) overlapping love triangle between teens who are just trying to learn what life is all about. —*A.A.*

Brian Roedel/Netflix

Talk about an unconventional meet-cute. Glen Powell co-wrote and stars in this darkly comedic romantic thriller as Gary Johnson, a mild-mannered college professor who also works with the police posing as a hitman to bust murder-for-hire clients. He proves adept at his undercover job, but, after a woman named Madison (Adria Arjona) hires Gary to kill her husband, he soon finds himself developing feelings, which complicates matters. Powell delivers his best performance to date as the chameleonic faux-assassin, and his chemistry with Arjona is off-the-charts charming. —*K.J.*

The Incredible Jessica James (2017)

Chris O'Dowd as Boone and Jessica Williams as Jessica James in 'The Incredible Jessica James'

Chris O'Dowd as Boone and Jessica Williams as Jessica James in 'The Incredible Jessica James'. Netflix

Jessica Williams is a relatable force to be reckoned with in her debut lead role. As the uber-confident Jessica James, she's trying to find out what's next in both her work life and her love life, with New York City as the backdrop. However, a blind date throws a wrench in all her plans as she finds herself unexpectedly falling for Boone (Chris O'Dowd), though she's still not quite over her ex, Damon (LaKeith Stanfield).

EW's critic celebrates the rom-com for its not-so-delicate balance, writing, "Even when the film falls into indie clichés, Williams keeps things moving with her cleverness and charisma, whether she's chastising man-spreaders on the subway or introducing an as-yet-unborn baby to the fight to dismantle the patriarchy." —*A.A.*

The Lovebirds (2020)

Issa Rae as Leilani Brooks and Kumail Nanjiani as Jibran in 'The Lovebirds'

Issa Rae as Leilani Brooks and Kumail Nanjiani as Jibran in 'The Lovebirds'. Skip Bolen/Netflix

The relationship between Leilani (Issa Rae) and Jibran (Kumail Nanjiani) is on its last legs and fading fast when the struggling couple is invited to a dinner party. On their way there, a chance encounter with a criminal changes the course of their night — and their separation. If they want to make it out alive and clear their names, the two will have to work together, but not without throwing a few passive-aggressive jabs at each other in the process.

*The Lovebirds* gives viewers a different kind of second-chance romance. It's light on the romance and heavy on the antics, making it an honest portrayal of all that can make or break a relationship — romantic or not. —*A.A.*

The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996)

Barbra Streisand as Rose Morgan in 'The Mirror Has Two Faces'

Barbra Streisand as Rose Morgan in 'The Mirror Has Two Faces'.

TriStar/Courtesy Everett Collection

Film critics weren't entirely kind to this Barbra Streisand joint upon its 1996 release, but its complex portrayal of companionship between middle-aged people is now refreshing, given the dearth of such stories decades later. Streisand and Jeff Bridges star as professors who enter a romantic relationship without the pressure of sexual intimacy. Over time, however, their walls come down as they gradually fall deeper for each other. It's a charming, mature story about finding love at one's own pace, bolstered by a scene-stealing, Oscar-nominated performance from Lauren Bacall as Streisand's domineering mother. —*K.J.*

Jenny Slate as Donna Stern and Jake Lacy as Max in 'Obvious Child'

Jenny Slate as Donna Stern and Jake Lacy as Max in 'Obvious Child'. A24

This indie gem proves you can tackle thorny topics within the romantic comedy genre as long as your heart is in the right place. Jenny Slate stars as Donna, a stand-up comedian who has a drunken one-night stand with a stranger, Max (Jake Lacy), and gets pregnant. Not ready to be a mother, Donna plans to have an abortion, but things become complicated when she and Max get to know each other, and he expresses his desire to one day have grandchildren. While somewhat reductively labeled an "abortion comedy" at the time, EW's critic observes that "the movie is both smarter and more sympathetic than that glib shorthand." —*K.J.*

People We Meet on Vacation (2026)

Emily Bader as Poppy and Tom Blyth as Alex in 'People We Meet on Vacation'

Emily Bader as Poppy and Tom Blyth as Alex in 'People We Meet on Vacation'.

Daniel Escale/Netflix

Emily Henry's romance novels have taken the book world by storm since 2020, so it was only inevitable that Hollywood would come calling to adapt her work. *People We Meet on Vacation*, based on Henry's 2021 novel, is the first of them — and a strong first, at that. The film follows Poppy (Emily Bader), an extroverted adventurer, and Alex (Tom Blyth), an introverted homebody, whose friendship slowly blossoms into something more over a series of summer vacations. Essentially a millennial spin on the classic rom-com *When Harry Met Sally* (1989), *People We Meet on Vacation* charms through Bader and Blyth's easy chemistry and its loving embrace of the genre's tried-and-true tropes. —*K.J.*

Pretty Woman (1990)

Garry Marshall's grown-up Cinderella story made an eternal movie star out of Julia Roberts, whose megawatt smile and charm helped turn the film into a blockbuster smash. Roberts plays Vivian Ward, a Hollywood sex worker who agrees to be a businessman's (Richard Gere) escort for a week, only for the pair to unexpectedly fall in love. Discourse about *Pretty Woman*'s light approach to sex work and the nature of its leads' relationship has been present since its release in 1990, but what remains is Roberts and Gere's sparkling chemistry and its earnest depiction of how people can change for the better, if given the chance. —*K.J.*

The Proposal (2009)

Sandra Bullock as Margaret Tate and Ryan Reynolds as Andrew Paxton in 'The Proposal'

Sandra Bullock as Margaret Tate and Ryan Reynolds as Andrew Paxton in 'The Proposal'. Everett Collection

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds make for a perfect match, even if their characters don't feel that way at first. Margaret (Bullock), a highly driven editor-in-chief at a successful publishing house, runs into trouble when a visa violation nearly gets her deported back to Canada. She pressures her tireless assistant, Andrew (Reynolds), to marry her so she can get a green card in exchange for him being promoted to editor. Naturally, hijinks ensue as Margaret meets Andrew's tight-knit Alaskan family (shout out to a scene-stealing Betty White as Andrew's grandma) and the pair explore their unconventional relationship.

EW's critic praises the chemistry between the two leads, observing, "Working together, both are surer and more disciplined in delivering their comedy goods." —*K.J.*

Set It Up (2018)

Zoey Deutch as Harper Moore and Glen Powell as Charlie Young in 'Set It Up'

Zoey Deutch as Harper Moore and Glen Powell as Charlie Young in 'Set It Up'. Netflix

Overworked assistants Charlie (Glen Powell) and Harper (Zoey Deutch) have a corporate meet-cute in their shared office building when they bond over their demanding, miserable bosses: venture capitalist Rick Otis (Taye Diggs) and sports media maven Kirsten Stevens (Lucy Liu). Desperate to make their jobs (and lives) easier, Charlie and Harper hatch a plan to merge their superiors into a happy power couple. But playing matchmaker might be way above their pay grade.

A romantic comedy in the same vein as *The Devil Wears Prada* (2006), *Set It Up* is a satisfying take on the feel-good genre, complete with meditations on work lives, love lives, and everything in between. EW's critic hails the film as the "gold standard for the frothy summer rom-com." —*A.A.*

Spike Lee exploded onto the scene with his 1986 directorial debut. Made for only $175,000, *She's Gotta Have It* tells the story of Nola (Tracy Camilla Johns), a graphic artist in Brooklyn who juggles relationships with three men. The situation becomes complicated after the men meet and figure out what's happening. Meanwhile, Nola comes to realize the value of her freedom as a sexually liberated person.

Lauded for its depiction of a confident Black woman at a time when Hollywood rarely centered such characters, *She's Gotta Have It* proved to be predictive of the kinds of groundbreaking stories Lee would tell in the decades to come. The Oscar-winning filmmaker also adapted the film into a Netflix series in 2017. —*K.J.*****Where to watch *She's Gotta Have It*: Netflix******Director:** Spike Lee******Cast:** Tracy Camilla Johns, Tommy Redmond Hicks, John Canada Terrell, Spike Lee, Raye Dowell**

This charming directorial debut by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson proves that break-up movies can make for great rom-coms. Jenny (Gina Rodriguez) lands her dream job at *Rolling Stone*, but it costs her her longtime boyfriend (LaKeith Stanfield). Desperate for a last hurrah in New York City before her big move, the new bachelorette rallies friends Blair (Brittany Snow) and Erin (DeWanda Wise) to help send her off, though it proves to be anything but a clean break.

The misadventures of their big night out inspire each woman to reflect on whether they've been choosing their relationships over themselves. The result is an empowering, modern spin on what's expected from the genre, placing sisterhood and self-love at the center stage. —*A.A.*

One of the better teen rom-coms for the modern age, *To All the Boys I've Loved Before* follows Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor), a high schooler who secretly pens love letters to crushes but never sends them. Her younger sister finds them stashed away and decides to mail them herself, leading to a fair share of awkward situations. To prevent her current crush from initiating yet another cringey confrontation, she impulsively kisses one of her former crushes (Noah Centineo), which proves to be the catalyst for an ever-evolving relationship. *To All the Boys I've Loved Before* was very well-received, with EW's critic calling it "breezy and charming." —*K.J.*

- The former champion also describes the one change he would make to the show if he was in charge. LESS MATH!

- Who is the player he would most like to see return? Read on and find out.**

Former *Survivor* contestant John Cochran went through his share of indignities on the CBS show. From sunburn complications to being on the receiving end of a Whitney Duncan diatribe, Cochran went through the reality TV wringer twice and lived to tell the tale.

But the law student-turned TV writer also overcame adversity (such as his father turning too “Hollywood” on a reward) to become a *Survivor* champion. One key moment in his winning *Caramoan* campaign was when Cochran shocked players and viewers alike by winning immunity on the dreaded “gross food” challenge. And if contestants have to be put through the culinary wringer, why shouldn’t the host, especially now that Jeff Probst has started competing in *Survivor* challenges?

We caught up with Cochran at the recent *Survivor 50* finale, and he answered some hot-button franchise questions — which included an explanation for why he would like to see the Hostmaster General “really degrade himself.”

**: As a viewer, what was the best *Survivor 50* moment for you?**

**JOHN COCHRAN:** I selfishly liked that first challenge with Ozzy and Coach with the stick trying to get the key because that was like taking me back to the *South Pacific* season, seeing the same ancient dynamics played out in front of me. And I was on Coach's side. Not everything has to revolve around Ozzy's sense of how the game is played. God forbid somebody else wants to win!

So I just enjoyed seeing those tensions kind of come to the surface again. And then it kind of settled again. But I think that was such a fun start to the season.

**Jeff Probst competed in his first challenge during *Survivor 50,* so what is the competition that Jeff should do next**?

From what I know, I think he eats, like, Subway sandwiches every day or something. I want to see him do the gross food eating challenge. You can't hide your discomfort with something like that. I want to see him gag. I want to see him throw up. I want to see snot coming down his face. I want to see him really degrade himself. I want to see him do that challenge where he has to bite off the giant hunk of pork. I just want to see Jeff have to get down and dirty.

**You and I agree that he is the best in the biz when it comes to hosting, but if and when Jeff ever *does* decide to hang it up, who should be the next host?**

Oh gosh. It's hard to imagine him being replaced because he's built up 50 [seasons] of authority and gravitas that anybody else, whether it's a former contestant or another host walking in, I don't think it will command the same respect of the players. It will be tough.

**What is the one change that you would make to *Survivor* if you could?**

I don't like losing votes. That's the one thing that I find just as a viewer, it makes me feel like you're doing math equations going into Tribal Council. And to follow the Mike White of: Is this fun, having to do math of like, “Wait, can that person vote?” I don't know. I feel like everyone should have a vote every Tribal Council. That should be the one constant. So I guess that would be one of the twists that I'd wanna see maybe dialed down a little bit.

Dawn Meehan, John Cochran, and Sherri Biethman on 'Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites'. CBS

**Who’s the one person you would like to see come back and play *Survivor* again?**

I will say I was just on the red carpet, and I just met Todd for the first time, who I see is now potentially leading the best winner of all time poll that you've been running. But Todd, for me, was a huge inspiration as this guy who doesn't seem very physically imposing but is gifted with this ability to articulate himself in a way that left the jury speechless. His final Tribal Council performance is one of my favorites.

- Erin Moriarty says she filmed a sex scene for *The Boys* while dealing with a "really bad" staph infection.

- The actress said that it wasn't until she showed people the infection that they realized its severity.

- "I was like, ‘Guys, I have a second head growing out of my armpit.'"

Erin Moriarty is looking back at filming a sex scene for *The Boys* while navigating an uncomfortable skin condition.

During a recent visit to the *MesSy* podcast, the actress revealed that she shot her character Starlight's first intimate scene with Hughie (Jack Quaid) for the Prime Video superhero series while also dealing with a "really bad" staph infection.

"You’re taught and conditioned, especially when you start really young as an actress, to say yes to everything and to swallow your needs," Moriarty explained. "I didn’t mind it. I liked it. My identifier prior to going through this autoimmune illness was that I would suffer for my art. I would transcend whatever physical ailments I was going through."

Which is what she did when it came time to film the pair's intimate scene in season 2.

"This is one of many examples where I was so run down that I developed a really, really, really bad staph infection," she said. "Because what I didn't know is that staph infections, anyone can develop them. Staph is on our skin at all times. But when you're really run down, they can happen. And it got really bad. Like, really really bad. And I couldn't move my right arm."

After she told production about the infection, Moriarty, who was diagnosed with Graves' disease last year, said the "only amendment" that was made to the night shoot that evening was to film Starlight and Hughie’s first sex scene.

"And so I was like, 'Guys, I have a second head growing out of my armpit,'" she recalled. "'Even if you want us to go through with this, this is what it looks like.'"

In general, Moriarty said that she tries to "withhold how many times I complain because I know that when I do complain, people won't take it seriously," adding, "And the worst thing that you can go through is going through physical hell and have people not take it seriously."

"I remember saying, 'I have the staph infection going on. You don't understand. It's really bad. I'm in total hell.' And then people would hear me, but no one was really listening," she continued. "And then I would show them the infection, and they would go, 'Oh my god. You need to go to the ER right now!' And I was like, but I told you. But they need to see it."

Still, Moriarty noted that she "made it through" the night shoot and completed the scene to prove that she was a team player — even if it meant navigating her own pain in the process.

"I suck it up for work. I show up. I do a good job. I can be in hell, and I can be afraid that maybe I won't wake up tomorrow because I've got a really invasive staph infection," she said. "I can't move my right arm, but I will show up, and I will do whatever I have to do to show that I'm a good sport and a good player."

More food items have been added to a list of recalled cheese linked to a growing multistate listeria outbreak that has already killed one person.

The Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention initially issued an investigation notice and public health advisory on Thursday, June 4, after eight people became sick across three states.

The 87.5% hopsitalization rate reported in these initial notifications has remained high since, with 10 of the 12 total people confirmed to be sick across four states, as of June 24, ending up in hospital care (83.3%).

Still, experts say most people who contract listeria poisoning recover at home without aid, meaning confirmed cases are often those that are serious enough to be documented by a medical professional.

This also means the actual number of sick could be, and is likely, much higher than reported, the FDA and CDC advised.

A fresh update issued on Sunday, June 26, added a handful of new items to the "do not eat" list, including several types of Mexican cheese sold in several states.

Here's what to know.

Which cheeses were recently recalled?

The latest recall update added cheeses made by La Ceiba Foods Latin Market Inc. that were sold between May 11 and June 1 in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC.

14-ounce La Colonia-brand Salvadoreno Requeson, Soft Ricotta Cheese. UPC: 736846383099, expiration date 07/10/2026.

16-ounce Selectos Latinos-brand Requeson Salvadoreno, Ricotta Style Salvadorean Style Cheese. UPC: 767787984526, expiration date 07/10/2026.

16-ounce Selectos Latinos-brand Requeson Mexicano, Mexican Cottage Cheese. UPC: 767787984519, expiration date 07/10/2026.

18-pound Clover Hill-brand Buket of Requeson, expiration date 07/10/2026.

Full list of recalled cheese

Clover Hill Dairy previously issued a recall that was later expanded to include its soft cheeses, which were sold both directly by Clover Hill and third-party distributors in North Carolina, New York, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey and Washington, DC.

Recalled products may be relabeled under a different brand name when distributed, including (but not limited to) Kesso, Quesos La Ricura, Izalco, De Mi Pueblo and Rio Lindo. Consumers should check labels for manufacturer info, which will list the Clover Hill Dairy manufacturer permit (or plant) number as “24-128” if available.

What to do if you have recalled cheese

Do not eat any recalled cheese, the CDC recommends, adding that people should throw it away or return the cheese to where they purchased it.

People at higher risk, those who may have had contaminated cheese in the home and businesses that may have had the cheese, are advised to take precautions, including:

Cleaning refrigerators, containers and surfaces that may have touched the recalled cheese. Wash surfaces with warm, soapy water before sanitizing them with a solution mix of 1 tablespoon of chlorine bleach and 1 gallon of water.

Washing hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds before and after handling food and/or possibly contaminated surfaces.

Call a healthcare provider right away if you feel ill after eating potentially contaminated food.

What are the symptoms of listeria poisoning?

Listeria poisoning is a foodborne bacterial infection most commonly caused by the bacterium listeria monocytogenes, according to the CDC. It is considered a serious condition and can be dangerous or life-threatening, especially when contracted by adults over 65, people with weak immune systems and pregnant women.

Symptoms usually start within two weeks after eating contaminated food, but may begin as early as the same day or as late as 10 weeks after. According to the CDC, symptoms include:

Fever

Muscle aches

Headache

Stiff neck

Confusion

Loss of balance

Convulsions

Diarrhea

Other gastrointestinal symptoms

Miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery and/or life-threatening infection of newborn infants

Death

People in higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months of consuming contaminated food should seek medical attention.

BOSTON (AP) — Washington Nationals pitcher Cade Cavalli apologized Wednesday for shouting “sit down, boy” at Boston Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras while instigating a benches' clearing scrum a night earlier.

“I’m extremely torn up about the way that things were perceived," Cavalli said. "Obviously, there was no ill intention behind that.”

Cavalli shouted at Contreras after striking him out looking with a full-count pitch in the fourth inning of the Nationals’ 8-1 victory over the Red Sox.

The term “boy” has a racist history in the U.S. Contreras, who is Venezuelan, demurred when asked after the game if he felt there was a racial component to Cavalli’s word choice.

“My teammates know me, my family knows me, this organization knows me,” Cavalli said. “I couldn’t sleep because of it. It hurt my heart, knowing that, if there’s a 13-year-old Black kid in D.C. that sees that — that looked up to me and thinks that he perceived it in a way that wasn’t intended the way that it came out, and then he’s not looking up to me anymore — that hurts my heart.”

When asked, he said he understands the meaning behind the word used.

“There’s a history behind that word, and that’s just something that as a competitor, like in football or basketball, playing whiffle ball with my brother, you don’t understand it,” Cavalli said. “And then it gets perceived in a way that was not my intention, and then you learn from that. It’ll never happen again.”

The 27-year-old right-hander said he didn’t realize the public outcry on social media until he got back to his hotel room.

“I looked at my phone, and I saw what people were saying about me. Saw how torn up my wife was. It hurt my heart,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it. I really couldn’t. Because I know that people know me, and they know my character, and that’s not me. So, it was hard. I truly didn’t sleep last night.”

Contreras was walking back to the dugout after striking out and yelled back at Cavalli: "Are you talking to me?” A few words were exchanged, and he charged the mound. He was stopped before he got to the pitcher. He tried to throw his helmet over a group of players at the righty.

Things settled down quickly after that, though the brief dustup ended with Contreras, Boston interim manager Chad Tracy, Red Sox outfielder Nate Eaton and Washington pitcher Miles Mikolas being ejected.

Cavalli said he hadn’t apologized to Contreras yet, but he hopes he hears his explanation.

“I have not reached out to him. I know that we’re both competitors, I hope that he hears this and he understands that was not what was intended at all,” Cavalli said. “I think he knows that. But if I see him, I want to make sure that he knows that.”

Rory McIlroy made a major fashion statement at Wimbledon.

The Northern Irishman took his wife, Erica, to watch some tennis at Wimbledon on Wednesday and was dressed to kill. It's become almost a sport in itself for celebrities to dress for the occasion, their outfits judged as if going to the Kentucky Derby or walking the red carpet at the Oscars. Well, McIlroy wins 9 and 8, and it's really not even that close after he showed up sporting the Green Jacket for his day at the Royal Box.

McIlroy successfully defended his title at Augusta National Golf Club in April and thus is allowed to wear the prized possession awarded to the winner of the Masters for another year off property.

McIlroy, 37, moved his residency from Florida to London last year so his daughter Poppy could go to school there. He returned to England from the U.S. two weeks ago and last week was spotted practicing at Royal Birkdale on the Lancashire Coast for the upcoming 154th British Open. This week, McIlroy enjoyed the tennis at Wimbledon, something that has become a rite of passage for men's professional golfers when they head across the pond for the Scottish Open or in advance of the British Open. The Wimbledon fortnight runs through the final round of the Scottish.

It was a European Ryder Cup team gathering of sorts with captain Luke Donald, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, and vice captains Thomas Bjorn and Eduardo Molinari joining McIlroy among the golfers dressed for the occasion. But as TW Legion so perfectly put it, "major flex" by McIlroy.
