Will Forte did not mince words about the years-long journey of getting Coyote vs. Acme to the big screen.
During a screening of the new movie set to hit theaters on August 28, the 56-year-old Hollywood actor issued an expletive-filled criticism of Warner Bros. after the studio shelved the film for 3 years. Will, who stars in the slapstick comedy alongside Lana Candor, John Cena, and, of course, Wile E. Coyote, voiced by Eric Bauza, slammed studio bigwigs who wanted to can the movie indefinitely for a multimillion-dollar tax write-off.
This comes after Will's iconic SNL character returned for a tongue-in-cheek sketch about the Epstein files during Season 51 of the popular sketch comedy series.

Will addressed the controversy surrounding Coyote vs. Acme during a recent screening, during which he said, "You know, [if] Warner Bros. is doing that bad financially, well, I have an idea — Maybe don't pay your f----g head a hundred million or whatever the f--k it is. Pair that down a little, and, you know..."
The beloved actor's comments stem from the studio's controversial decision to shelve three feature films as tax write-offs, which was met with intense backlash from industry insiders and cinephiles alike.
The much-anticipated film was directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch, and is based on a 1990 New Yorker article by the same name by Ian Frazier, which follows Wile E. Coyote as he hires a billboard attorney to sue Acme Corporation for selling him faulty products. Will plays Kevin Avery, Wile E.'s lawyer, on the cartoon anti-hero's quest for legal retribution.

Coyote vs. Acme, along with Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt, was initially shelved in November 2023, though the decision was reversed after public outcry, giving the filmmakers the opportunity to seek other distribution.
Warner Bros. officials announced that the film was completed but would not be released to allow the company to claim an estimated $30 million tax loss. Cast and crew were reportedly not informed of the decision until after the film was completed.
Will's comments about the studio's financials came after it was revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav received a total compensation package of $165 million for 2025, including a base salary, cash bonus, and stock, amid the ongoing merger with Paramount Global.

Lana, who plays Will's niece in the film, chimed in, "It's done. How could you not put that out? It just doesn't make sense," to which Will explained, "And I mean, look, I don't know the business stuff, you know, business stuff is... We just don't know. We weren't really told anything. It was just like, 'That's the decision.'"
The first teaser for Coyote vs. Acme was released on April 15, also known as Tax Day in the US, featuring the cartoon coyote hanging in the air with a sign that reads "Happy Tax Day" on one side and "Check Your Write-Offs" on the other before tumbling through the air into the canyon below, in an apparent nod to the behind-the-scenes drama.
In one trailer, the film was marketed as 'The Movie Acme Doesn't Want You To See,' further leaning into the controversy.
Ahead of its August 28 release, Coyote vs. Acme holds an impressive 96% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes and has received major buzz for its slapstick capitalist critique and for blurring the lines between the real world and the cartoon world, much like its predecessors, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Space Jam.
