- Katherine died by suicide on Feb. 23 after her father lost his friends Catherine O'Hara, Rob Reiner, and Diane Keaton.

Martin Short has broken his silence on the recent death of his daughter.

After Katherine Short was discovered dead at 42 in her Hollywood Hills home on Feb. 23, a representative for the *Only Murders in the Building *star expressed Martin's "profound grief."

"The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time," the representative said. "Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world."

Two days later, Short's cause of death was confirmed as a result of suicide. The comedian has since kept a low profile as he prepares to release *Marty, Life Is Short*, a new documentary about him, on May 12.

Now, Short has given his first sit-down interview since his daughter's death, opening up to *CBS Sunday Morning *correspondent Tracy Smith.

"It's been a nightmare for the family," he told her on Sunday's episode. "But the understanding [is] that mental health and cancer, like [with] my wife, are both diseases — and sometimes with diseases they are terminal."

Several deaths have rocked Short's life recently. The actor has also lost his friends and collaborators Diane Keaton, Rob Reiner, and Catherine O'Hara, all within the span of a few months. Meanwhile, *Marty, Life Is Short *functions as a love letter to his late wife, Nancy, or Nan, who died of ovarian cancer in 2010.

"My daughter fought for a long time with extreme mental health, borderline personality disorder, other things, and did the best she could, until she couldn't," Short said in the interview. "So Nan's last words to me were, 'Mart, let me go.' And she was just saying, "Dad, let me go.'"

"If I wasn't going to talk about this, then I would have pushed the documentary, because it is — listen, it's called *Marty, Life Is Short*," the actor said. "And suddenly, last October, I lost Diane Keaton on the same day I lost my sister-in-law, Nancy's sister, to cancer. Then Rob and Michelle [Reiner, his wife] have been my lifelong friends for 40 years … And then Catherine O'Hara and then my daughter. I mean, it's been in four months. Staggering."

When Smith asked how Short has been able to comprehend and cope with the losses, he responded, "You can't. You just have to breathe in, breathe out."

Still, the comedian, who has "never been in therapy," described how he has at least tried to process his grief. "What I do is, I dictate into my phone and then I transcribe it and I look at it and rewrite it and put it away," he said. "You find if you're repeating your same things, maybe you're moving on a little bit."

Short concluded the interview by offering some insight. "I think we all are in denial about our limited time in this earth," he said. "It's very difficult to accept it... But the more you accept it, I think it does lift you and make you feel that this is a complicated little journey, life. And the more we approach it with wisdom, probably the happier we'll be."

- Britney Spears has broken her silence after pleading guilty to reckless driving and checking into rehab.

Britney Spears has broken her silence after months of personal turbulence.

The pop icon has been relatively quiet on Instagram, where she usually maintains an active profile full of inspirational messages, dancing videos, blunt responses to her critics, and other musings. In March, however, Spears was arrested on suspicion of a DUI, kicking off a chain of events that led her to submit a guilty plea and enter rehab.

Nearly two weeks after she reportedly checked out of the treatment facility, she opened up about her "spiritual journey" in a confessional post on Saturday.

"Went to the pet store with my kids and look at what a beautiful baby snake this is," Spears wrote over a photo of a small albino Burmese python coiled in her outstretched palm. "Snakes are symbolic of good health, higher consciousness, and pure luck."

"I'm so damn thankful to my friends and so many new beautiful people I have met through my spiritual journey," the singer continued, summing up her recent string of setbacks as "all a blessing in disguise."

Spears concluded the post by noting, "I still have to learn how to be kind to myself and the way I speak to myself… It's a never-ending journey and sometimes I just stop, look up, and say, 'Wow, God, I think that was you' and smile on!!!!"

The pop star's recent troubles started on March 4, when she was taken into custody by California Highway Patrol officers in Ventura County, Calif., on suspicion of driving under the influence. She was released the following morning and officially charged with a DUI on April 30.

A representative for the Ventura County DA told EW at the time that Spears would be offered a "wet reckless deal." Because she had a low blood alcohol level, does not have a prior DUI history, was not involved in an accident, and did not sustain or cause any injuries at the scene of her arrest, she was allowed to plead guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and/or drugs without having to serve jail time.

Spears eventually took that deal, pleading guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol, drugs, or both on May 4. She was ordered to serve 12 months of probation with credit for any time spent in custody.

Wet reckless agreements also typically mandate that the individual complete a DUI class and pay state-specified fines and fees.

Singer Bonnie Tyler has been placed into an induced coma to aid her recovery after emergency intestinal surgery, a spokesman for the star has said.

It was revealed the 74-year-old from Skewen, Wales, had been rushed to a hospital near her home in Faro, Portugal, on Wednesday for the procedure and was recuperating.

A spokesman for the singer shared a further update on her health on Thursday evening.

"Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery," he said.

Tyler was expected to start a 30-date tour later this month, with a homecoming gig in Cardiff in December.

The spokesman added: "We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please.

"We will issue a further statement when we are able to."

More than 2,000 people have posted comments under a post on Bonnie Tyler's Facebook page wishing her well, with fans from around the world sending supportive messages, including ones who have undergone similar surgery.

On Friday, a post on Tyler's Facebook page thanked people for the "incredible outpouring of love and well wishes we've received for Bonnie over the last few days. It truly means the world".

"We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please.

"We will issue a further statement when we are able to," it added.

Her guitarist Ed Poole also posted: "I'm aware of the ongoing news about the Bonnie situation and appreciate everyone that's reached out about it."

"All I can say is that myself and the rest of the band are hoping and praying that she pulls through," he added.

There have also been messages from stars of the 1980s, including Katrina Leskanich from English rock band Katrina and the Waves.

She posted: "Dearest Bonnie. Make a speedy recovery and come back rocking! We love you."

"I Will Survive" disco star Gloria Gaynor said: "Wishing you a swift recovery, Bonnie!"

Tyler's hit single Total Eclipse of the Heart in the 1980s changed her life

Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, grew up in a council house in Neath.

She became an international sensation with Total Eclipse of the Heart in 1983, and 43 years later the song passed the billion streams mark on Spotify.

She was discovered by talent scout Roger Bell in a club in Swansea, and released her first single Lost in France in 1977.

Five years later, she released Total Eclipse of the Heart which spent two weeks at UK number one, and four weeks in the US.

She received a Grammy nomination for the hit, as well as the album Faster Than the Speed of Night, and the single Here She Comes.

Tyler also represented the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, finishing 19th out of 26 acts, and was made an MBE for her services to music in 2023.

- Stephen Colbert responded to backlash he's received from *Lord of the Rings* fans who claim he's co-writing a new film in the franchise just because he's famous.

Stephen Colbert knows some *Lord of the Rings *fans think he's co-writing an upcoming installment for the movie franchise just because he's famous — but he's not going to fuel the fire.

The late-night host and noted Tolkien superfan was asked about the flak he's received from fans since the film was announced in March and why they should entrust him with Middle-earth in a new *Hollywood Reporter *interview.

"I mean, there's no reason to [share why]," Colbert responded. "And there's no value in me addressing that because all you can do as — I'll use a loaded term here — an artist is follow your heart and the craft that you have learned to try to turn this into something that is not fandom, but drama."

The comedian also pointed out that he's lucky because he doesn't "have to do this alone," as he's penning the film's script with his son Peter and longtime franchise co-screenwriter Philippa Boyens. "I have a great Sherpa in Philippa Boyens, who cares about it in the same way I do," he said. "And I will just say that every moment has been a joy so far."

In March, Peter Jackson announced that Colbert, his son, and Boyens are co-writing the script for a new film titled *The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past*. The installment is the next in line to be released following Andy Serkis' *The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum*, which is scheduled to hit theaters in December 2027.

An official synopsis for *Shadow of the Past *reveals that it's set 14 years after the death of Frodo (Elijah Wood) and follows Sam (Sean Astin), Merry (Dominic Monaghan), and Pippin (Billy Boyd) as they "set out to retrace the first steps of their adventure."

It continues, "Meanwhile, Sam's daughter, Elanor, has discovered a long-buried secret and is determined to uncover why the War of the Ring was very nearly lost before it even began."

Speaking with Jackson in March, Colbert explained that he was inspired to write the film after rereading the six chapters not featured in the movie *The Fellowship of the Ring*. They are chapter 3, titled "Three Is Company," through chapter 8, "Fog on the Barrow-Downs."

"I thought, 'Oh, wait, maybe that could be its own story that could fit into the larger story,'" he recalled. "'Could we make something that was completely faithful to the books, while also being completely faithful to the movies that you guys had already made?'"

Colbert said he noodled on the idea with his son before showing it to Jackson, who "liked it enough to talk to me about it," then to Boyens, and then all the way up to the bosses at New Line and Warner Bros.

"I could not be happier to say that they loved it," Colbert said, "and so that's what we're gonna be working on."

2026 NFL schedule release: Bills games named among best next year

The NFL is likely going to release the 2026 schedules for all 32 teams in the coming days.

Reportedly the announcements are set to happen some time next week. While every team has known their opponents and locations for games in 2026 for months, the order is not yet set.

Considering we know these matchups, NFL.com ranked the 10 best games to come next season. The Buffalo Bills find themselves on the list twice.

Coming in at the fifth position is the Bills' trip to the New England Patriots. Above that at the No. 2 position is Buffalo's game at home, which will be played at the new Highmark Stadium, against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The breakdown on both games can be found below:

Chiefs at Bills

Anytime Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen lock horns, it’s a reason to celebrate. This year’s meeting of the two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks might carry a little additional zest in the Chiefs-Bills rivalry.

Mahomes’ torn ACL and the Chiefs missing the playoffs have raised the anxiety level in Kansas City, especially as Travis Kelce enters what could be his final NFL season. Of course, they’re anxious in Buffalo, too, with the Bills losing the division last season and failing to take advantage of a wide-open AFC playoff field.

These teams have met 10 times in the 2020s, and it’s an even 5-5 split. Buffalo has dominated the regular-season series 5-1, but the Chiefs are 4-0 in playoff matchups.

This is one of the showcase battles at new Highmark Stadium, and it should be one of the more anticipated matchups of the 2026 season, as it has been for the better part of a decade.

Bills at Patriots

I decided to go with the game in Foxborough because the Patriots reclaimed the AFC East in 2025 but also lost their home game against the Bills, who are likely to be their biggest impediment to repeating as division champs.

The Patriots won up in Buffalo last year, and that game is sure to be big as well, so you really could make a case for either matchup. Drake Maye outplayed Josh Allen in that game, and Maye’s emergence as an MVP candidate has certainly added some volume to this renewed rivalry.

New England emerged from a weak AFC field (and a soft schedule) to make the Super Bowl, but the blowout loss to Seattle has been followed up by offseason drama surrounding head coach Mike Vrabel. Can the Bills win back the division and become a Super Bowl contender again? The game at Gillette Stadium could reveal quite a bit on both fronts.

Pretty much every single major celebrity has attended the Met Gala at one point or another, but one person who hasn’t RSVP’d yes? Kate Middleton. The Princess of Wales has never attended the annual gala, despite—allegedly!—being at the very top of Anna Wintour’s invite list, and being no stranger to red carpets:

It’s not unheard of for royals to attend the Met—specifically Princess Diana, who showed up in 1996 wearing Dior and some seriously major sapphire and pearl jewelry, which Kate owns nowadays!

A source tellsRob Shutterthat Anna personally asked the Princess of Wales to attend, saying “Kate is the one celebrity Anna wants and cannot get. That is the obsession.”

“This was never only about Diana,” the source adds. “Anna wanted Kate because Kate is the ultimate prize.”

Another insider alleges that Anna tried to get King Charles and Queen Camilla to convince Kate to attend, and that “Kate understood exactly what was being asked. This was not simply an invitation. It was an attempt to make her the defining image of the night—and she had no interest in playing that role. She was never going to turn herself—or Diana — into a Met Gala moment.”

Fair enough! But never say never, since Kate has close relationships with plenty of fashion designers, and depending on what future themes come into play, there could be a world where she attends the Met Gala to support them.
