Former LSU football coach Brian Kelly shared his first statement on Thursday, Nov. 6, since being fired nearly two weeks ago.

Kelly was fired midway through his fourth season with the Tigers on Oct. 26 following LSU's 49-25 loss to Texas A&M at home.

REQUIRED READING: Timeline reveals how Brian Kelly firing exposed LSU athletics dysfunction

The move has sent a shockwave through LSU athletics in the aftermath, which also parted ways with athletic director Scott Woodward. LSU president Wade Rousse, who was named as the university's next leader on Nov. 4, then named Verge Ausberry the Tigers' permanent athletic director after serving in an interim role for a few days.

"As everyone heads on their way to see the Tigers play, I wish Coach (Frank) Wilson, the coaches and our players the best this weekend," Kelly wrote on social media. "I know they will do their best for themselves and for LSU. We will be watching and cheering for you.

"This journey may have ended, but it's a journey that will stay with me and my family forever."

Kelly had never been fired as a college head coach before. The 64-year-old coach led Division II Grand Valley State to back-to-back national championships before moving to Central Michigan, where he finished 9-4 in his last season.

Kelly then took over at Cincinnati and led the Bearcats to back-to-back New Year's Six bowls in 2008-09. He then went 92-39 at Notre Dame and won double-digit games in his final five seasons there.

Kelly couldn't quite bring the same success to Baton Rouge, though, with the Tigers failing to finish ranked in the top 10 in his first three seasons with the program. LSU's leaders said they expect to reach the College Football Playoff every season with the expanded 12-team bracket, and that wasn't going to happen in 2025 after the Tigers' third loss, which ultimately led to Kelly's exit.

Each of the three coaches at LSU before Kelly – Nick Saban, Les Miles and Ed Orgeron – won national titles with the program. Kelly went 34-14 during his time with the program.

"The losses will always hurt, but I will remember all of the wins," Kelly wrote.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has pardoned former New York Mets great Darryl Strawberry of tax evasion and drug charges, citing the 1983 National League Rookie of the Year's post-career embrace of his Christian faith and longtime sobriety.

Strawberry was an outfielder and eight-time All-Star, including seven with the Mets from 1983-90. He hit 335 homers and had 1,000 RBIs and 221 stolen bases in 17 seasons.

Plagued by later legal, health and personal problems, Strawberry was indicted for tax evasion and eventually pleaded guilty in 1995 to a single felony count. That was based on his failure to report $350,000 in income from autographs, personal appearances and sales of memorabilia.

Strawberry agreed to pay more than $430,000 as part of the case. He was diagnosed with colon cancer and underwent surgery and chemotherapy in 1998.

The following year, Strawberry was sentenced to probation and suspended from baseball after pleading no contest to charges of possession of cocaine and soliciting a prostitute. He eventually spoke in court about struggling with depression, and was charged with violating his probation numerous times — including on his 40th birthday in 2002.

Strawberry ultimately served 11 months in Florida state prison, and was released in 2003.

A White House official said Friday that Trump approved a pardon for Strawberry who had served time and paid back taxes. Speaking on background to detail a pardon that had not yet been formally announced, the official noted that Strawberry found faith in Christianity and has been sober for a decade-plus, and that he'd become active in ministry and started a still-active recovery center.

Strawberry posted on Instagram a picture of himself and Trump and wrote, "Thank you, President @realdonaldtrump for my full pardon and for finalizing this part of my life, allowing me to be truly free and clean from all of my past."

He described being home on Thursday afternoon, caring for his wife who was recovering from surgery, "when my phone kept ringing relentlessly."

"Half asleep, I glanced over and saw a call from Washington DC. Curious, I answered, and to my amazement, the lady on the line said, 'Darryl Strawberry, you have a call from the President of the United States, Donald Trump,'" Strawberry wrote. "I put it on speakerphone with my wife nearby, and President Trump spoke warmly about my baseball days in NYC, praising me as one the greatest player of the '80s and celebrating the Mets. Then, he told me he was granting me a full pardon from my past."

Trump was a New York real estate mogul before becoming a reality television star and twice winning the presidency.

Strawberry said he was "overwhelmed with gratitude — thanking God for setting me free from my past, helping me become a better Man, Husband and Father."

"This experience has deepened my faith and commitment to working for His kingdom as a true follower of Jesus Christ," Strawberry wrote, while also noting "This has nothing to do with politics — it's about a Man, President Trump, caring deeply for a friend. God used him as a vessel to set me free forever!"

Strawberry's followed Trump issuing pardons this week for a former Republican speaker of the Tennessee House and a onetime aide on public corruption charges. It adds to a list of celebrities and political allies who have similarly received unlikely pardons — including a former Republican governor of Connecticut, an ex-GOP congressman and reality TV stars who had been convicted of cheating banks and evading taxes.

Strawberry played for the Mets, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Francisco Giants between 1983 and 1999. He won the World Series with the 1986 Mets, starring alongside the likes of Dwight Gooden and Keith Hernandez, and with the Yankees in 1996, 1998 and 1999.

Strawberry was hospitalized with a heart attack in March 2024, a day before he turned 62. That same year, the Mets retired his No. 18 and an emotional Strawberry told the Citi Field crowd: "I'm truly, deeply sorry that I ever left you guys. I never played baseball in front of fans greater than you guys."

Let us rejoicify!

While we're still two weeks away from the premiere of *Wicked: For Good*, the grand conclusion of the Ozian musical saga kicked off by 2024's blockbuster smash *Wicked*, there's reason for cheer just around the bend.

NBC will air a two-hour musical special called *Wicked: One Wonderful Night *on Nov. 6, streaming the next day on Peacock. This super-stuffed bonanza of spell-casting goodness will feature previews, interviews, Easter eggs, and original musical performances by some of the starriest members of the duology's ensemble cast — including cohosts Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

Read on to learn why, where, and how to watch *Wicked: One Wonderful Night.*

How to watch *Wicked: One Wonderful Night *on TV or streaming

The two-hour *Wicked: One Wonderful Night *special airs on NBC for, well, one night only, on Thursday, Nov. 6. But not to fear — the entire *For Good *appetizer will be made available for endless reheating on Peacock the following day.

Those without cable can access NBC via services like DIRECTV or Fubo TV. The former TV service provider currently offers free five-day trials, while the latter is offering a seven-day trial of its service.**

When does *Wicked: One Wonderful Night *premiere?

*Wicked: One Wonderful Night *invites viewers to bask in the verdant glow of the Emerald City (via the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles) on Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Cable cutters and the linear averse will be able to watch the special on Peacock as soon as the clock ticks midnight on Nov. 7.**

What can viewers expect to see on Wicked: One Wonderful Night?

Director Jon M. Chu's first installment in the *Wicked *film series covered the first act of the hit Broadway musical on which it's based — itself an adaptation of Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel *Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West*, which is an imaginative expansion of the classic Hollywood cornerstone *The Wizard of Oz*. That Oscar-winning film, of course, was based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's novel, *The Wonderful Wizard of Oz*.

Most of the show-stopping numbers from *Wicked *the musical come in that first act, like Grande's "Popular," as Glinda the Good, and Erivo's "Defying Gravity," as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. But the upcoming sequel contains its fair share of gems — and *Wicked: One Wonderful Night *will showcase performances of songs from across the gamut.

What's more, the TV special will give fans glimpses of two new original songs created by original musical composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz for the sequel. Erivo's "No Place Like Home" and Grande's "The Girl in the Bubble" are two of the most exciting reasons to catch *For Good*, and now to tune in to *One Wonderful Night*.

The special will additionally feature performances by a slew of *Wicked *stars, accompanied by a 37-piece live orchestra led by Tony-winning musical director Stephen Oremus; dance numbers ripped straight from the film and reimagined for the special by *Wicked *and *For Good *choreographer Christopher Scott; behind-the-scenes clips; new interviews with the cast; and a world-premiere clip from *Wicked: For Good.***

Which cast members will appear in Wicked: One Wonderful Night?

*Wicked: One Wonderful Night *finds itself in the capable hands of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, the evening's mistresses of ceremonies.

Glinda and Elphaba themselves will be joined by Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, who plays the dastardly Madame Morrible; Ethan Slater, who plays the pure-hearted turned vindictive munchkin Boq; Marissa Bode, who plays Elphaba's Machiavellian younger sister Nessarose; Jeff Goldblum, who plays the treacherous Wizard of Oz; and *Saturday Night Live *star Bowen Yang, who plays Pfannee, a friend of Glinda's created for the films.

Director Jon M. Chu and original composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz will also be on hand, and in the company of several surprise guests.**

When does *Wicked: For Good *premiere?

The stage production of *Wicked *picks up in Act II right where Act I leaves off, with only a short intermission between the two. There's been a full year between *Wicked *and *Wicked: For Good*, however, meaning the sequel's November premiere can't come soon enough.

*For Good *begins with Glinda addressing her new subjects, after she accepts the great and terrible responsibility of spokesperson for the scheming Wizard at the end of *Wicked*. Elphaba, meanwhile, uncovering the Wizard and Madame Morrible's nefarious plot, defies them all — and gravity in the process — breaking out of the Emerald City on broomstick and whizzing off into sunset. Infamy follows, as a propaganda campaign transforms her from an altruistic crusader into the most feared Bad Witch in Oz.

How Fiyero, Nessarose, and the rest fit into the high-flying conclusion will be revealed when *Wicked: For Good *premieres in theaters on Nov. 21.

Don't let the unsettling trailer fool you, the vibes between Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson were all good on the set of *Die My Love*.

During a recent appearance on the *Las Culturistas *podcast, the Oscar-winning actress revealed that she felt very comfortable working alongside Pattinson while shooting the psychodrama romance, especially when it came to filming intimate scenes.

"We did dance lessons together, which was like team building exercises," she told hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. "In the end, it ended up being more helpful just for choreography of sex scenes and fighting scenes."

Asked if the production had an intimacy coordinator, Lawrence was unsure, but explained that she didn't feel the need to call upon one while working through the film's sex scenes with Pattinson.

"We did not have one or maybe we did, but we didn't really… I felt really safe with him," she shared. "He's not pervy and he's very in love with [partner] Suki [Waterhouse]. We mostly were talking about our kids and relationships so there wasn't any weird, like, 'Does he think I like him?'"

She added, "If there was a little bit of that I would probably have an intimacy coordinator. A lot of male actors get offended if you don't want to f--- them, and then the punishment starts. But he was not like that, for the record."

In a prior interview with *Brut Magazine*, on the heels of the film's Cannes Film Festival premiere, Lawrence and Pattinson confirmed that they did in fact have an intimacy coordinator on set for *Die My Love* — but felt comfortable enough to film the scenes without much guidance.

"On our first day of shooting, we were naked, attacking each other like tigers," Lawrence joked.

Pattinson added, "You think you can't get more embarrassed and then they're like, 'Now do it naked.'"

The *Twilight* alum then took care to acknowledge how having an intimacy coordinator on board made a big difference. "It's not just to feel secure sometimes, " he explained. "I think directors sometimes are a little bit scared to say, like, 'Your body looks weird in this angle.' And if you have someone else whose specific job is to say, 'Just move a little bit in this direction,' you're gonna like it more."

Intimacy coordinators have emerged as a crucial role in Hollywood and theater in the wake of the #MeToo movement. SAG-AFTRA, the labor union representing actors and others in the entertainment industry, describes the role as "an advocate, a liaison between actors and production, and a movement coach and/or choreographer in regards to nudity and simulated sex in intimate and other hyper exposed scenes."

Elsewhere in her *Las Culturistas *conversation, Lawrence shared that she also felt perfectly fine with appearing nude in the movie, which was filmed while she was pregnant with her second child.

"I don't care about nudity. I'm not sensitive about it," she told the hosts. "I think being pregnant took a lot of, like, vanity anxiety away. Before *No Hard Feelings*, I was dieting and not eating carbs and working out. I was pregnant [in *Die My Love*]. What was I gonna do? Not eat?"

Lawrence said that at one point, production sent over a shot from the movie with "a close-up of cellulite" and asked if she wanted them to touch it up in editing.

"I was like, 'No. That's an ass,'" she said.

*Die My Love* stars Lawrence and Pattinson as a couple whose marriage unravels amid mounting psychological distress. Billed as a dark comedy and psychological thriller, the film hits theaters on Nov. 7.

When Netflix introduced its then-revolutionary mail-in rental service in the late '90s, it was competing with businesses like movie theaters, Blockbuster, and even Tower Video. Some of those stalwarts have faltered, but Netflix has only continued to expand its library and influence, shifting to a streaming platform in 2007 that offers studio and indie films, cable and broadcast TV series, and its own prestige (or not) content.

Beyond a treasure trove of original series and features, the service has curated a laundry list of excellent films both new and old. Here are the 25 best movies on Netflix right now.

George MacKay as Lance Corporal Will Schofield and Benedict Cumberbatch as Colonel Mackenzie in '1917'

This Oscar-winning war film presents its story with bracing realism. In *1917*, Lance Corporal William "Will" Schofield (George MacKay) is a British soldier embarking on a perilous journey through the trenches and battlefields of World War I. Will is paired with Lance Corporal Thomas "Tom" Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman) and tasked with personally delivering a message to a colonel to call off an offensive attack that would put British soldiers in harm's way.

Director Sam Mendes and cinematographer Roger Deakins skillfully give the film the illusion of being shot seamlessly — as if in only one continuous take — which, EW's critic observes, "effectively drops the viewer into the center of the story and compels them to stay there, fully immersed in every muddy step, hunger pang, and rifle click." —*Kevin Jacobsen***** Where to watch *1917*: Netflix******EW grade:** A–******Director:** Sam Mendes******Cast:** George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch**

While *28 Days Later* (2002) and its sequel, *28 Weeks Later *(2007), focused on the immediate aftermath of the devastating "Rage Virus," this third installment explores how society has adapted to its dystopian new reality. The film follows Spike (Alfie Williams), a boy who's only ever known life under quarantine, as he ventures out with his father (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) into dangerous territory. Exploring themes of grief and mortality without sacrificing the gruesome violence we've come to expect from the franchise, *28 Years Later* is, as EW's critic puts it, "strange, unpredictable, gloriously revolting, darkly funny, and, when you least expect it, rather touching." —*K.J.***

Tre (Cuba Gooding Jr.), an aspiring college student, dreams big while trying to survive the streets of South Central L.A. in this absorbing coming-of-age drama. A war between rival gangs begins when Tre's childhood friend Doughboy (Ice Cube) is released from prison and now a member of the Crips. After the Bloods start a conflict with Ricky (Morris Chestnut), the tension between the gangs reaches a breaking point.

Writer-director John Singleton earned heaps of praise for the film, including two Oscar nominations. EW's critic notes of Singleton's direction: "Through dialogue and atmosphere, he establishes how the cult of violence — of guns, and the neurotic masculine power they represent — has, in an era of hopelessness, become a face-saving religion for Black urban youth, one that's working to devour all nonbelievers." —*K.J.*

*As if* we wouldn't recommend this '90s favorite whenever it shows up on any streaming service.**** Amy Heckerling cleverly adapted the story structure of Jane Austen's classic novel *Emma* and it with a Beverly Hills high school setting. In her most iconic role, Alicia Silverstone plays Cher Horowitz, a popular fashion-forward student who enjoys tending to her projects, by which we mean playing with people's lives, from becoming a matchmaker for her teachers to giving new student Tai (Brittany Murphy) a makeover. But Cher's pampered world is thrown into chaos when Tai takes a liking to the boy she might be *totally* crushing on. Aubrey Plaza gives one of her finest turns to date in this grounded thriller. She plays the titular down-on-her-luck felon who resorts to theft to make her way out from under a mountain of debt. "She may be a wanton criminal, but she's also a woman very much for these times," EW's critic writes. "Not the anti-heroine we knew we needed, maybe, but one that we deserve." It's a visceral, often unbearably anxious film that showcases Plaza's steeliest, most nuanced performance in a career full of them. *—Declan Gallagher*

Guillermo del Toro, lover of monsters big and small, proves to be an ideal fit for adapting the story of Frankenstein. Del Toro remains relatively faithful to the gothic sensibility of Mary Shelley's novel, which centers on the titular scientist as he creates a sentient creature in his lab. As in the book, this adaptation sees the makeshift father and son at odds, though del Toro provides us with a much more sympathetic Creature, brought to life brilliantly by Jacob Elordi in all his sad-eyed, long-limbed wonder.

"Every time you have drama on film is great," del Toro explains to EW. "Every time you have drama in your life, it's coming from a false understanding of life. Either you think you *deserve* more or you don't deserve this. And the word 'deserve' has nothing to do with living. It just is. And the movie tries to show those things." —*K.J.***

Films in the long-running *Godzilla* franchise aren't exactly known for their human characters compared to the titular giant reptilian monster, but this universally acclaimed installment is a rare exception. The film focuses on former kamikaze pilot Kōichi Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki), a man with PTSD after failing to prevent Godzilla from destroying an island community during World War II. Haunted by the incident, Shikishima looks for redemption when the imposing monster returns to terrorize Japan.

EW's critic ranks *Godzilla Minus One* — which won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects — as the fourth-best film in the franchise, writing, "This sweeping blend of character-driven drama, maritime adventure, and kaiju mayhem is popcorn entertainment at its best." —*K.J.*

Fernanda Torres delivers one of 2024's best performances as Brazilian activist Eunice Paiva in this deeply emotional drama. Based on a true story, the film follows Eunice as she grapples with the forced disappearance of her politician husband under Brazil's military dictatorship in the 1970s. As she tries to hold things together for her children, she seeks answers for where her husband is — and if he's still alive. Torres provides a steadfast determination to her performance as Eunice, winning a Golden Globe and receiving an Oscar nomination for her work. —*K.J.***

One of the standout ballroom performers featured in the seminal 1990 documentary *Paris Is Burning* is Venus Xtravaganza, whose life was tragically cut short after being found strangled to death at the age of 22. Believed to be the victim of a hate crime, the unsolved case is reexamined in this moving documentary about Venus' biological and chosen families coming together to honor her memory and find answers. Director Kimberly Reed also leaves plenty of room to celebrate Venus' life and her lasting impact on the trans community and ball culture. —*K.J.***

Quentin Tarantino's first of three revisionist historical epics (preceding 2012's *Django Unchained* and 2019's *Once Upon a Time in Hollywood*) is a wildly entertaining Molotov cocktail. The film follows the parallel courses of a commando unit of mostly Jewish-American soldiers and a French woman looking for revenge as they both try to take down the Nazis during World War II. Bolstered by an instantly iconic Oscar-winning performance from Christoph Waltz as a wicked SS officer, *Inglourious Basterds* is a thrilling slice of alternate history, written with Tarantino's signature sharp sense of dialogue. —*K.J.***

Annette Bening gives an astonishing, Oscar-nominated performance as real-life marathon swimmer Diana Nyad, who at 64 trained to become the first person to swim to Cuba. Equally riveting as Nyad's trainer is Jodie Foster (also Oscar-nominated), reminding viewers that in terms of steely confidence, someone rarely does it better than her. "The two women also share an effortless chemistry that breathes vitality into their onscreen bond and wholeheartedly sells their decades-long connection," EW's critic writes. *—D.G.*

Who is the real parasite in *Parasite*? Is it the low-income, working Kim family that gradually worms their way into the lives of the wealthy Park family? Or is it the Parks benefiting from the hard work of those they deem below them? Bong Joon Ho's darkly comedic thriller is brilliant and propulsive in many ways, entertaining the audience with its twists and turns while also providing trenchant social commentary about class and capitalism. EW's critic calls *Parasite* a "serrating, brilliantly stylized portrait of class and fate and family" as well as "a filmgoing experience that refuses to fit into any box." —*K.J.***

Jane Campion's adaptation of the Thomas Savage novel is a spellbinding Western drama about power and control. Set in 1920s Montana, the film centers on Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch), a cruel rancher who psychologically torments his brother (Jesse Plemons), sister-in-law (Kirsten Dunst), and her soft-spoken son Peter (Kodi Smit-McPhee) on the ranch they share. After Peter discovers a buried secret about Phil, he methodically plots his revenge on his uncle. Campion deservedly won an Oscar for Best Director for the film; as EW's critic praises, "being submerged in her ineffable world feels not just like two hours in the dark, but high art." —*K.J.***

This Indian action epic rightfully broke out as an international success in 2022. Set during the British Raj in the 1920s, the film centers on Komaram Bheem (N.T. Rama Rao Jr.) and his plan to reunite a kidnapped girl with her mother; meanwhile, a determined officer, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan), is hot on his trail. Their lives intersect when they rescue a boy in a train accident and they form a bond, ironically unaware of each other's identities. *Saturday Night Live* has become a true institution in the television landscape...which would surprise most people involved in the making of the late-night sketch show in 1975. This propulsive dramedy from writer-director Jason Reitman gives us a near-minute-by-minute dramatization of the nail-biting 90 minutes leading up to the show's premiere on Oct. 11, 1975. Rachel Sennott as Danielle in 'Shiva Baby'

Rachel Sennott as Danielle in 'Shiva Baby'. Utopia

Don't be fooled by the slight, 78-minute runtime or the silliness of the poster: This is one of the most anxiety-inducing films of the decade — intentionally so. In her breakout role, Rachel Sennott plays Danielle, an aimless college student attending a shiva with her parents. While there, she grapples (often hilariously) with a series of awkward interactions, particularly when she spots her sugar daddy and finds out he's married. EW's critic praises *Shiva Baby* as "blithely ruthless," calling it "a sort of endless festivus of cringe so visceral it borders on body horror." —*K.J.***

Spencer (2021)

*Spencer* is far from the Princess Diana biopic you would expect. Beginning with a title card that reads "A fable from a true tragedy," this psychological drama from Pablo Larraín envisions an emotionally taxing Christmas holiday that Princess Diana spent with the British royal family in 1991. While the holiday took place in real life, the film imagines how Diana may have felt as the pressures of her situation cause her to unravel. Kristen Stewart's Oscar-nominated portrayal of Diana is a genius bit of casting, as she plays into the discomfort of the beloved princess with shocking vulnerability. —*K.J.***

Mya Taylor as Alexandra and Kitana Kiki Rodriguez as Sin-Dee Rella in 'Tangerine'. Everett Collection

There is much to praise with this independent film from writer-director Sean Baker: it was shot entirely by iPhones and has great style; it casts two transgender actresses as leads, each giving strong performances. But it's also a good old-fashioned screwball comedy, following a day in the lives of transgender sex worker friends Sin-Dee (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) and Alexandra (Mya Taylor), After Alexandra informs Sin-Dee that the latter's boyfriend has been cheating on her, the pair go on a journey through the streets of Hollywood to confront him. EW's critic raves, "*Tangerine* is touching for its non-condescending stance toward working girls and the spirit of the sidewalk." —*K.J.*

Jonathan Larson was a celebrated composer and playwright most famous for penning the Broadway musical *Rent*. He also wrote a semi-autobiographical musical based on his life called *Tick, Tick...Boom!*, which Lin-Manuel Miranda adapted to this well-received musical drama. Andrew Garfield, in an Oscar-nominated turn, stars as Larson, following his struggle to mount a musical while dealing with a tumultuous personal life. J.C. Chandor's masculine action riff, about a group of special ops planning a heist in South America, is a stark contrast to his earlier, more patient efforts in 2011's *Margin Call*, 2013's *All Is Lost*, or 2014's *A Most Violent Year* (his masterpiece). While not as thematically strong as those films, *Triple Frontier* offers a dose of adrenaline that, much like *The Strangers*, harkens back to a forgotten era of mid-'70s B pictures. "There may be no honor among thieves," EW's critic writes, "but *Triple Frontier *certainly makes watching them pretty entertaining." *—D.G.*

Will Ferrell and Harper Steele have been close friends since joining *Saturday Night Live* in the mid-'90s. After Steele came out as a trans woman in 2022, she and Ferrell embarked on a road trip across America so he could get to know her authentic truth and for her own personal journey of self-acceptance. This documentary — hilarious and moving in equal measure — chronicles the trip as Ferrell learns how to be an ally and wield his privilege for good and Steele opens up about her demons and finds catharsis. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More (2024)

Benedict Cumberbatch as Henry Sugar in 'The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar'

This whimsical anthology film finds auteur director Wes Anderson bringing the stories of Roald Dahl to life. Originally released as four short films in 2023, Netflix has now assembled them all into one collection. *The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar*, which won the Oscar for Best Live Action Short, centers on the titular character's years-long training process to be able to see without his eyes — all so he can cheat at gambling.

Other shorts are *The Swan *(about the struggles of a bullied boy), *The Rat Catcher *(about, well, an exterminator of rats), and *Poison *(about a man who finds a snake in his bed). Anderson's flair for carefully crafted aesthetics is a throughline, as is his love of the art of storytelling. —*K.J.***

The Wrong Missy (2020)

David Spade as Tim Morris and Lauren Lapkus as Missy in 'The Wrong Missy'

David Spade as Tim Morris and Lauren Lapkus as Missy in 'The Wrong Missy'.

Katrina Marcinowski/Netflix/Everett

On paper, *The Wrong Missy* is nothing new: David Spade goes on a bad date with Lauren Lapkus, whose name is Missy, and then means to invite a cute girl (Molly Sims), hilariously also named Missy, with him on a company retreat to Hawaii. (No points for guessing which Missy ends up on the trip.) The film coasts by on a general likability, but if not for Lapkus' performance, the story would be lost at sea. She glues the entire enterprise together with a mixture of well-played raunch and genuine pathos, selling the moment and keeping the plot bouncing along to the next joke. *—D.G.*
