Nothing is more exciting than winning an Emmy — except perhaps the question of just *what* the winners are going to say when they get up on that stage.

Awards acceptance speeches can make you cry, laugh, roll your eyes, or look on in utter bewilderment, but the best speeches are the ones that you don’t forget. From Sally Field taking a political stance in front of the world in 2007 and Alan Alda cartwheeling in the aisle in 1979, to Julia Louis-Dreyfus accepting her award as the character that she was winning for, some speeches are as legendary as the performances that prompted them.

Ahead, ** looks back on eight iconic Emmys acceptance speeches that we’ll always remember.

Sally Field has won four Primetime Emmys, most recently for the Netflix film *Remarkably Bright Creatures*. But it was when she nabbed an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series win for her performance on *Brothers & Sisters* that she gave the audience a message they wouldn’t forget.

During the 2007 ceremony, Field took to the stage to accept her award — only to be cut off after launching into an emotional diatribe about the war in Iraq. “And especially the mothers who stand with an open heart and wait,” Field said. “Wait for their children to come home. From danger. From harm’s way. And from war… I am proud to be one of those women. And let’s face it, if mothers ruled the world, there would be no…” It was at this point that her speech was cut off, so audiences at home could not hear the rest.

Until after the fact, Field had no idea that she had been censored. “No, I didn’t know I had been bleeped. You know, the whole thing was sort of a surreal experience,” she told Diane Sawyer on *Good Morning America.*

Field had been cut off right as she was about to say “godd---.” “I made the mistake of putting a God in front of the damned,” she told Sawyer. “But basically, I feel if anything on Earth God would damn, it would be war. But I guess for whatever reason, they decided that God and d--- together was not acceptable.”

When Meryl Streep stepped onto the Emmys stage to accept the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her performance in *Angels in America,* she kicked off her speech with an iconic line: “You know, there are some days when I myself think I’m overrated… but not today!”

After that cheeky starting note, Streep continued with a little good-natured ribbing aimed at her fellow nominees: “I’m sorry, I know Glenn [Close] is my friend, she’ll forgive me. Helen Mirren is an acting god, and nobody has put a performance on film better than Judy Davis in the Judy Garland story [2001’s *Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows*]. The only one of the group is Emma Thompson, who *will* hold a grudge for the rest of her life! But who cares?” She earned plenty of laughter before she turned to her thank-yous.

The speech is a top tier example of Streep’s class and humor; just another reason to love the iconic actress.

In 2015, Viola Davis became the first Black woman to receive the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and she later reflected on her moving speech in a conversation with EW.

On stage, she had first recalled a Harriet Tubman quote: “‘In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me, over that line. But I can’t seem to get there no how. I can’t seem to get over that line.’”

“That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s,” Davis continued during the ceremony. “And let me tell you something: The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there. So here’s to all the writers, the awesome people that are Ben Sherwood, Paul Lee, Peter Nowalk, Shonda Rhimes, people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman, to be Black.”

“When you’re at a deficit,” Davis told EW, on beginning with the Tubman quote, “you’re always wanting to cross over that line, to get to that glass ceiling, for your talent to be recognized, for your humanity to be recognized, that’s what you’re always fighting for. This is the first time an actress of color has ever won in that category. We just want to be seen on the same level as our Caucasian counterparts. That’s it. I felt like that quote right there was the perfect lead in.”

When legendary comedy star Lucille Ball accepted her third Emmy in 1967, she delivered a speech that surprised everyone with its depth of feeling and sincerity. At the time, it had been years since her iconic run on *I Love Lucy*, and she had won for her stint on *The Lucy Show*.

“I don’t have one thing prepared to say because I just didn’t expect it, it’s been a long, long time,” she began her speech, which prompted cheers from the audience.

“I have one or two,” she continued, her voice wavering slightly with emotion, referring to her past Emmy wins, “and they mean a lot. Because it’s given by you all, part of the industry. I don’t know, it just sort of... seemed away and apart of what we’re really doing. It left a long time ago, and I’m glad it’s back.”

“Last time I got it I thought they gave it to me because I had a baby,” she said, as the audience laughed. “And that baby is 14 years old now. I love my work. Thank you for giving me this for it.”

The biggest snubs and surprises from the 2026 Emmy nominations

In 1987, Jackée Harry became the first Black actress to win the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance as Sandra Clark on *227*, and the funny lady naturally gave a hilarious speech when she went up to accept her award. When the *Sister, Sister* star got to the microphone, she started off by saying, “Oh, this is faaabulous,” prompting laughter from the audience.

“Oh, thank you so much,” she continued. “Thank you, God. Thank you, Mama — even though you’re not here with me. Thank you, my dearest sister and best friend. Thank you, my brothers, Miles, Rufus, and Anthony. Thank you all my family, thank you, *227* cast, and especially Marla Gibbs for being so gracious to me.”

Harry continued to thank the producers and members of the show’s crew before cutting herself off and cheekily musing, “I wonder if I get paid more money for this.” On the heels of more delighted laughter from the audience, she ended on an emphatic “THANK YOU!”

*Abbott Elementary *star Sheryl Lee Ralph followed in Jackée Harry’s footsteps in 2022 by becoming the second Black woman to take home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series — a fact that Harry herself paid tribute to.

She took to social media following Ralph’s win to acknowledge their mutual milestone. “Winning my Emmy was a career highlight, but it was also a lonely experience,” she tweeted. “For 35 years I’ve been the only black woman to win Outstanding Supporting Actresses in a Comedy Series. But that all changes tonight… and it’s come full circle!”

She elaborated:  “The network originally wanted [Ralph] to play Sandra on *227*, but I got the part and won an Emmy for it. Now, Sheryl joins me as the 2nd black woman in this category and deservedly so!”

Like Harry, Ralph’s acceptance speech is also iconic, but even more emotional. Ralph first stood on stage holding her award, totally speechless and beaming, while the crowd gave her a standing ovation. She then belted out the Dianne Reeves song “Endangered Species”: “I am an endangered species / But I sing no victim’s song / I am a woman, I am an artist / And I know where my voice belongs.” The audience jumped back to their feet in response.

“To anyone who has ever, ever had a dream, and thought your dream wasn’t, wouldn’t, couldn’t come true, I am here to tell you that this is what believing looks like,” she declared. “This is what striving looks like. And don’t you ever, ever give up on you, because if you get a Quinta Brunson in your corner, if you get a husband like mine in your corner, if you get children like mine in your corner, and if you’ve got friends like everybody who voted for me, cheered for me, love me… thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Though Alan Alda had previously won an acting Emmy for his work on *M*A*S*H,* he made the acceptance of his writing award much more memorable when he took to the stage in 1979. After getting up from his seat, the actor literally *cartwheeled* in the aisle before getting up on stage.

He then went on to give a surprisingly touching speech about his writing aspirations. “The reason I was so exuberant a second ago, is because it has been many years since I’ve been trying to be good at being a writer,” he began. “Since I was a little kid. As a matter of fact, I wanted to be a writer from the time I was eight years old, and I wanted to be an actor from the time I was nine. So it’s been a very long time. And this really, really, pleases me enormously, and encourages me enormously.”

For her second Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series win for *Veep* — her fourth Primetime Emmy overall — Julia Louis-Dreyfus memorably recruited her costar Tony Hale to help give her speech. Both appeared on stage in character as VP Selina Meyer and her servile assistant, Gary Walsh.

“She called me that morning and she’s like, ‘I want you to carry my bag if I win,’” Hale told EW in 2024. “And my immediate thought was, ‘Oh s---, you are going to win, and I have to show up and do this.’”

Hale recalled that the two of them “talked a little bit about bits if it does happen,” but mostly just committed to leaning on their natural chemistry. “I remember that moment, when I heard her name, and I was like, ‘Game on,’” he said.

When the two got on stage, Hale was full Gary Walsh. He held Louis-Dreyfus’ clutch while nervously darting his eyes around at the audience and reminded her to thank her family, and when she went on to thank the cast, she conspicuously left him out. Then, when the camera cut to fellow *Veep* star Anna Chlumsky, she wasn’t paying attention to the speech; instead, she was texting on her phone, just like her character Amy Brookheimer.

However, Hale insisted that Chlumsky was not part of the original plan. “We did not plan that. So that was full Anna Chlumsky bringing it,” he revealed.

- Christina Applegate had a hilarious welcome home banner waiting for her, courtesy of her daughter, Sadie.

- “My kid is so my kid hahah,” Applegate captioned the picture of colorful letters hanging on her wall.

- The actress, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021, was in the hospital for four months earlier this year.

The *Dead to Me* star belatedly shared the signs Sadie Grace LeNoble hung up to welcome Applegate home after her months-long hospitalization. The banners, comprised of letters in different colors and fonts, read, “Yay! You’re home. Happy day, ho.”

“Meant to post this a while ago. My kid is so my kid hahah,” Applegate proudly captioned the Instagram post.

Fans loved the sign waiting for Applegate at her home. “Blessed to have a daughter with the same ‘she gets me’ humour (the best medicine!) So glad you’re home,” one fan commented.

“🤣🤣🤣🤣 💜💜💜💜 she means well I bet it feels good to laugh too so there’s that,” another said. “Glad you’re doing well.”

Other fans left their well wishes for Applegate. “I’m so glad you’re home and hope you are feeling better. ❤️,” someone wrote, summing up the sentiment.

Applegate, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021 and has been open about her health journey, recently posted about her daughter with a video of the pair making silly faces, posing with fake lips.

“Me and the kid. How is everyone this evening?” she wrote on Instagram in July. “I’m so good because going thru pics and finding gems with your mini me gives me joy. Cuz we are both off hahah.”

The *Anchorman** *star was reportedly hospitalized in late March, *TMZ* reported in April. Her rep told ** at the time, “I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are.”

Adding, “She’s had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.” Applegate cohosts the podcast, *MeSsY*, with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also battles MS. In March, Applegate published her memoir, *You With the Sad Eyes*.

Later that month, Applegate shared an update with her fans on Instagram. “Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes. Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day,” she wrote at the time, beneath a photo of a coffee cup sitting atop her memoir.

“I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough,” Applegate added.

Amid reports that Applegate had recently been discharged from her months-long hospitalization, a source told PEOPLE in August that the actress was “doing very well.”

Applegate said in March 2025 that she had previously been hospitalized “upwards of 30 times” following her MS diagnosis.

Months later, she spread awareness about the illness on Instagram. “For people who don’t understand MS. When we get stressed or upset our symptoms get worse,” she said in November 2025, captioning a clip of her subtly giving the middle finger.

“I had something happen to me on Friday and I have fallen like 5 times. Legs are busted. So if you know someone with a disease like this, maybe think…”

- Stephen Colbert weighs in on whether he will return to the late-night television format anytime soon.

- Colbert, who is developing a new *Lord of the Rings *movie with his son, said that “for an unemployed person, I’m very busy.”

- The comedian’s show, *The Late Show With Stephen Colbert*, won the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Series on Monday evening.

Is another late-night host gig in the cards for Stephen Colbert?

The former *Late Show** *host weighed in on whether he would ever return to the television format months after his show ended in May on CBS.

“I think the Jimmys have got that locked down for right now,” he quipped during an interview with *Live From E!: 2026 Emmys* on Monday evening ahead of the awards show. “But thank you for the invitation.”

Colbert also added that “for an unemployed person, I’m very busy.” He had recently spent a month in New Zealand researching for the *Lord of the Rings* movie that he is developing with his son, Peter.

Later that Monday evening, Colbert’s show won the Outstanding Variety Series Emmy for the second year in a row. The show also won five Creative Arts Emmys at the previous weekend’s ceremony.

“Thank you so much on behalf of the over 200 people who threw themselves at this show for 11 years to try to do the best show they possibly could to you,” Colbert said in part during his acceptance speech onstage at the Peacock Theater.

He also joked that many of his past guests were in the same room with him that evening. “Over the last 21 years, I’ve interviewed at least 1,000 of you. Thank you for coming on to talk to this idiot. I want you to know that you were the perfect guest. This segment went great, and I’m sorry I forgot to play your clip.”

This year, Colbert* *also won Outstanding Writing For A Variety Series, as well as Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama Or Variety Series for *Colbert Before Air*, bringing his total 2026 Emmys statuette count to three.

Colbert is returning to late-night television this week. Well, kind of. He will appear as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel’s eponymous talk show. Kimmel teased the newly minted Emmy winner’s presence, adding that he might even let Colbert sit at his desk.

Bob Mackie has died at age 87

Mackie was a legendary costume designer known for his iconic collaborations with Cher and other Hollywood stars

Bob Mackie has died at the age of 87.

In a post shared on Mackie’s Instagram page on Sept. 14, his team wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr. Bob Mackie passed away today. He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do. His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world.”

Mackie was perhaps Hollywood’s most famous costume designer, best known for his collaborations with Cher over the years. He worked with dozens of stars, including Carol Burnett, Tina Turner, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Liza Minnelli, Ann-Margret and Bette Midler.

Mackie was born in 1939 in the suburbs of Los Angeles. “I always knew what I wanted to do,” he told PEOPLE in 2021. “But I knew I was in trouble when my parents gave me a catcher’s mitt for Christmas. Then my good aunt gave me a jewelry-making kit. I made a few pairs of earrings, and that was that.”

Mackie’s parents separated when he was 2, and he was raised primarily by his grandparents, who nurtured his love of art. But it was at the movies where he found his inspiration. “I sat in the theater totally mesmerized watching Betty Grable, Rita Hayworth,” he remembered in a 1994 conversation with PEOPLE. “Then I went home and drew what I’d seen.’’

Mackie’s sketching skills got him a job in the entertainment business making drawings for costume designers. But his big break came when actress and singer Mitzi Gaynor hired him to create costumes for her Las Vegas Revue. He would later design costumes for her TV specials and won Emmys for her 1976 and 1978 shows.

One of Mackie’s first high-profile gigs was as the costumer for The Carol Burnett Show, which ran from 1967 to 1978. “He was the best,” Burnett told PEOPLE in 2010. “He designed 50 costumes a week for our show.” Mackie called it “the perfect show” in a 2019 interview with WWD.

Mackie first met Cher on the set of that series, and he soon began designing for the singer, later becoming the costumer for The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, which premiered in 1971.

Mackie’s collaborations with Cher became legendary and changed the face of fashion. “Nobody was allowed to even design a halter dress until Cher started wearing them on Sonny & Cher [in the ‘70s], and then all of a sudden they were in everybody’s collection,” Mackie told PEOPLE. “And then girls were showing way more skin than they should have, because Cher was showing more skin than she should have. But she looked good in it.”

Part of the key to pulling off the jaw-dropping dresses he made for the “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer, he explained, was having “wit.”

“I think also you can’t be intimidated,” he said. “If you’re intimidated by what you’re wearing, you’re not gonna pull it off at all and you’re not going to be successful.”

In 1986, Cher demonstrated what he meant by boldly wearing one of the wildest dresses he ever made for her to that year’s Oscars. Equal parts skin-baring, sequined and over-the-top, the singer’s look was completed with a giant feather headpiece. Mackie had actually been opposed to her wearing it at the time.

“I’m always the conservative one. At first I told her, ‘You can’t dress like that to give somebody an award, you’ll pull all the focus from them,’” he told PEOPLE in 2019. “And she said, ‘Oh, they won’t mind.’ Then there she is, and she’s on the cover of every newspaper all across the country. She knows what she’s doing.”

“Critics said, ‘Well, that’s not fashion,’” he remembered. “Well, it wasn’t meant to be fashion. She wanted to do it just because it was fun.”

Though Mackie did dip his toes into ready-to-wear and couture collections, it didn’t creatively fulfill him. ‘’I’ve never been one of those people for whom fashion was my religion,’’ he told PEOPLE in 1994. ‘’I love dressing people, but just making clothes for people to wear is so heartless. It’s more fun to create a character or a look for a show — to do something that’s emotionally fulfilling for the audience and the performer. That’s where my heart is.’’

Mackie was a 32-time Emmy nominee and nine-time winner, taking home trophies for his work with Cher, Burnett and Diana Ross. In 2002, he was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame. He was a three-time Oscar nominee for his work on the movies Lady Sings the Blues, Funny Lady and Pennies From Heaven.

Mackie, who also designed costumes for Broadway and national musical tours, received his only Tony nomination and win for his work on 2018’s The Cher Show, a jukebox musical about Cher’s life. He created over 450 outfits for the show — which also featured a fictionalized version of Mackie, who hosts a fashion show in a show-stopping number. “In that moment, they are singing, and dancing and carrying on, and the audience loves it,” he told AnOther Magazine in 2018. “And I love that part of it, because they are basically clapping for what I do, you know.”

Mackie’s one-of-a-kind style remained a celebrity favorite for decades, with Zendaya, Miley Cyrus, Anya Taylor-Joy and many more diving into his archives for red carpet and performance outfits. “Sometimes it makes me feel very old,” Mackie joked with Vogue in 2024.

In 1960, Mackie married LuLu Porter, and shortly after, they welcomed a son together, Robin. They divorced in 1963. Robin struggled with drug addiction, but was diagnosed with AIDS after getting sober. He died from an AIDS-related illness in 1993.

“It was very difficult to see this person you have so much hope for finally come out of one problem, then go into another,’’ Mackie told PEOPLE in 1994. “As a parent, you only want the best. And when it’s not like that, you just wish you could trade places.”

In the 2024 documentary about his life, Naked Illusion, Mackie shares that, later in life, he discovered he had a granddaughter through Robin, and was able to connect with her and two great-granddaughters as well.

In 1963, Mackie began a relationship with Ray Aghayan, a fellow costumer he first worked with on The Judy Garland Show. They were together until Aghayan’s death in 2011.

“I think I’m the oldest living designer in Hollywood,” he told The Guardian in 2018, amid his work on The Cher Show and a new Cher tour. When asked if he’d ever retire, he said, “I hope not.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have already switched Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet's school just days after they started.

The young royals, aged seven and five, had only just begun settling in as new pupils last week before their parents took the decision to withdraw them.

Archie and Lilibet attended a taster session at their new school on Monday, with Prince Harry reportedly seen helping his daughter settle into her reception class.

The couple are also said to have already been added to the parents' WhatsApp groups.

The children were first enrolled at a school near the family's current home after Harry and Meghan announced in August that they would be returning to Britain for an "extended" stay.

Sources close to the Sussexes have been keen to stress that the school itself was not the problem.

Rather, it was the logistics of transporting the children safely that proved unworkable.

Congested roads near the family's residence and the considerable distance to the school placed significant pressure on their modest private protection detail.

During one journey, the security vehicles were unable to maintain formation as a convoy, something that raised concerns among the security team.

Although the Sussexes' bodyguards had conducted assessments of the school grounds during the summer holidays, they were unable to carry out a proper reconnaissance of the daily route until term actually commenced.

A spokesman for the duke and duchess said: "The decision for the children to move schools was taken following a discussion with the family's security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements.

"The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family. This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there."

The timing is notable, in regard to the broader conversation with Harry's security.

It was revealed tonight that Ravec have now written to the duke to inform him that his situation was discussed in a meeting last week, and that he should get a full review.

The official review will be carried out by a Risk Management Board (RMB). Meghan will also have her own review by a separate RMB.

Both RMB assessments are expected to be carried out as soon as is practicable.

Both have been asked to supply details of their everyday routines – the school run included – so that any shift in the threat level can be properly assessed.

It had been reported that Meghan had been left "nervous" about the new school run - concerns that evidently turned into a reality.

Ravec had intended to reassess the duke's security requirements in March of this year, but the process stalled when all RMBs were suspended owing to a reported backlog.

- Cher remembered fashion designer Bob Mackie after his death.

- The two had collaborated on Cher’s looks for decades after meeting in the ‘60s.

- Mackie died Monday, Sept. 14.

Cher paid tribute to longtime collaborator Bob Mackie hours after his death at 87 on Monday.

“My dear Bob has gone up to heaven,” Cher wrote on social media. “Knowing him, he’s bringing Sequins, Beads, & his sketch pad. Good nite sweet Prince. Luv, Me.” She added “Dyslexic” to remind people to excuse any errors.

The singer-actress and Mackie met when she appeared on *The Carol Burnett Show*, which aired from 1967 to 1978, for which he made the costumes. Cher and Mackie hit it off, and he began designing costumes for the “I Got You Babe” star’s *The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour *when it debuted in 1971. He went on to work on her self-titled series from 1975 to 1976.

They continued working together over the years and some of her most famous looks were designed by him. He also created looks for the likes of Tina Turner, Marilyn Monroe, Diana Ross, and Elton John.

The most famous, of course, was her outrageous, skin-baring ensemble for the 1986 Academy Awards, which featured a distinctive wig, sparkly headpiece, bra, and skirt set.

Mackie was also the one behind the* Silkwood* star’s fishnet look in the video for her 1989 song “If I Could Turn back Time,” even though there was a time he didn’t want people to know that.

Mackie recalled to Yahoo! Entertainment in December 2024 that he only agreed to create what Cher wanted for the project if she kept his participation a secret. The result was a lot of fishnet and not much else.

“I said, ‘Please don’t tell anyone that I designed this,’” Mackie said. “‘Don’t let anyone know this. I’m embarrassed,’ and she was fine about it. Now she admits that, no, it wasn’t so good.”

He added, “We put a lot of wild, sexy clothes on her at different times. Sometimes I’d say, ‘Well, you can’t wear that for this’ ... an award show or whatever, and she would [disappointedly reply], OK’ But she wanted to wear that. Bicycle pants were in, but see-through bicycle pants are really scary.”

But Mackie said Cher had managed to pull it off.

“Nobody else could get away with it, let me tell you,” Mackie said. “Who has a figure like that really — and a look that nobody else has?”

Following the fashion icon’s death, Sabrina Carpenter was another pop star remembering Mackie. The “Espresso” singer wrote on her Instagram Stories that she was “terribly devastated” by the news.

“I feel so lucky to have met Bob,” continued Carpenter, who called herself a “Mackie girl forever.” “His one of a kind creations have inspired and brought so much joy and happiness and confidence to my world and they will continue to always.”

Aye aye, Captain! Geoffrey Rush is sharing what it would take to get him to set sail on another *Pirates of the Caribbean* film.

The actor tells ** that he’d only want to resurrect his character Captain Barbossa for the right reasons — like haunting Johnny Depp’s infamous pirate, Jack Sparrow.

“I think there’s been a big enough break,” Rush explains during a recent visit to EW’s studio at the Toronto International Film Festival. “I sacrificed myself for my daughter. I don’t want it to be too cheesy and too easy that I come back and go, ‘Give me another payday.’ I respect the scale of the opera that’s almost been created in that 20-year period.”

Barbossa has died not once, but *twice* across the five *Pirates* films. He was famously shot and “killed” by Jack Sparrow in the first film,* The Curse of the Black Pearl,* and later risked his life so that his daughter Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario) could live in 2017’s* Dead Men Tell No Tales*.

But Rush doesn’t think Captain Barbossa’s story necessarily has to end just because he’s dead.

“I go to Shakespeare and go to Hamlet’s father comes back as a ghost, and I thought that could be really,” he says, before trailing off. “It’ll take good writing, but just to come back and annoy Jack Sparrow for one more go, you know? I’d even say get the fans to write in what they’d like to see happen.”

Barbossa and Sparrow started with an antagonistic relationship in the *Pirates* films (Sparrow *did* kill Barbossa, after all!), but the pair ultimately found themselves as begrudging allies by the last film.

Rush isn’t the only Pirates star interested in potentially hopping aboard the franchise again. His costar Orlando Bloom similarly told EW that he asks “all the time” about a potential sixth installment and still speaks with his fellow *Pirates* crew often.

“I do connect with [Depp] every now and again, because he’s amazing,” Bloom said. “But I think, it’s like, that was so fun and it was such a zeitgeist-y thing. I mean, I don’t know how they do it or when they do it, but I haven’t heard.”

Bloom went on to note that the *Pirates* films have become incredibly nostalgic to their fanbase over the years.

“I think nostalgia is such a big thing in the world today. So we keep harking back to these things, because of the nostalgia and what the feeling you had watching whatever your favorite thing was,” Bloom explained. “There’s that kind of thing that I think we’re seeing in movies as well. So we’ll see.”
