President Donald Trump has shared the first photo of Vice President JD Vance’s fourth child with second lady Usha Vance, Alec Neel Vance, who was born on Sunday, July 19.
The couple announced the birth of their baby boy on Sunday, writing in an Instagram post that “Usha and the baby are happy and healthy” and that their older three children — Ewan, 9; Vivek, 6; and Mirabel, 4 — were “overjoyed to meet their little brother.
On Monday, July 20, the president shared the first public photo of Alec being held by his brother Vivek in the hospital next to his sister, Mirabel.
“Congratulations! A perfect baby boy for the wonderful Vance family,” Trump, who has five children, wrote on Truth Social.
The baby boy’s birth was the second known time a second lady has given birth during her tenure and the first in more than 150 years.
Ellen Wade Colfax — the wife of Ulysses S. Grant’s vice president, Schuyler Colfax Jr. — gave birth to a son in 1870.
JD, 41, and Usha, 40, thanked “the incredible military doctors and staff members of Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit” in their Sunday post.
“We are deeply thankful for all they have done for our family,” the couple added.

The Vances announced that Usha was pregnant in January.
In May, the vice president told NBC News that he won’t take a “formal” parental leave following the birth of his fourth child, but plans to spend more time at home as the family balances the demands of his job with the birth of their new son.
The vice president’s office referred PEOPLE to those comments when reached for comment on Monday.

Usha, who worked as a trial lawyer prior to coming to Washington, will “take a long period out of the public eye” following Alec’s birth, her husband said in the same interview.
“It’s one of these jobs where it’s impossible to completely disconnect from it,” Vance said in May. “The good thing about having a little bit of control over your schedule in your life is that you can incorporate your kids in your job in a way that they love.”
“I think it’ll mean the kids are probably here at the White House more than they have been the last few months, and I’ll probably be at home a little bit more, and we’ll just make it work,” he added.
