Rumours that MachineGames is engaged on a Quake reboot have resurfaced, but when it's true which will mean no Wolfenstein three.

As the first huge reveal of the yr, Indiana Jones And The Great Circle appears to have gone down pretty properly with everybody, even if many have been stunned to seek out that it's primarily a first individual recreation.

Though they're usually slower-paced, story-led video games, all of MachineGames titles have been first individual but in recent times there's been a lot of rumours of them being concerned in a Quake remake. They've helped out with new content for the current Quake 1 and 2 remasters and as far back as 2014 indicated to us that engaged on a reboot can be a dream project.

Now it appears as if that dream might come true, as eagle-eyed followers have observed what seems to be a clear reference to a new Quake recreation within the reveal video for Indiana Jones And The Great Circle.

At one point within the video (11 minutes and 34 seconds, to be exact) there's a shot of a whiteboard which clearly, should you pause it, exhibits the Quake emblem and above it what appears to be the phrases 'Quake 6'.

There isn't a Quake 5, however it's potential that unique developer id Software think about the multiplayer-only Quake Champions to be a fifth mainline entry.

There's nothing else to go on in the video, which leaves three obvious options: it's simply an in-joke or wishful considering from MachineGames, it's an intentional trace at a brand new Quake, or it's an unintentional reveal that wasn't purported to be seen.

Whichever it is, MachineGames has been advertising a lot in recent years, for individuals to work on a first individual shooter, which at the time many assumed to be either Quake associated or for a 3rd Wolfenstein recreation.

Given the revelation that Indiana Jones And The Great Circle can also be first individual, it now appears probably that no major work is at present being carried out on a brand new Wolfenstein recreation and that a third and remaining entry just isn't assured.

That alone makes a new Quake extra possible, although it remains to be seen what strategy MachineGames takes, when it comes to both the setting and the type of the game.

Will they return to the unique Lovecraftian themes of the original or persist with the extra generic sci-fi backstory of the second and fourth games (and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars)?

Will it's multiplayer-only and if it's not will the single-player be in the identical narrative-led fashion as different MachineGames? None of these questions are answered on the whiteboard but hopefully we'd get at the very least a clue later within the yr.
