With a long and storied history in cold-weather sports, Italy will host the Winter Olympic Games for the third time in 2026.
The competition will be spread out over several locations in northern Italy, from Milan to Cortina d'Ampezzo.
This year's Winter Games will introduce new ski mountaineering events, featuring three competitions: men's and women's sprints, as well as a mixed relay. Additionally, the skeleton event will include a mixed team competition, and freestyle skiing will showcase dual moguls for both men and women.

Where are 2026 Winter Olympics taking place?
The Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo are the official hosts of the 2026 Winter Games.
Milan is the second-largest city in Italy and is noted as a global hub of fashion and design. It will host marquee events such as figure skating, speed skating and ice hockey, as well as the opening ceremony.
Cortina d'Ampezzo, located in the Dolomites 160 miles (258 kilometers) notrtheast of Milan, will host women's Alpine skiing, curling and sliding sports.
Between Milan and Cortina along Italy's northern border with Switzerland, the men's Apline skiing events will be held in Bormio, a regular stop on the World Cup circuit. Meanwhile, the snowboarding and freestyle skiing events will take place in nearby Livigno.
The closing ceremony will be held at the Verona Olympic Arena in Verona.
The Stelvio track in Bornio, Italy, will host the men's Alpine skiing competitions at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.When do 2026 Winter Olympics start?
The 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milano Cortina officially begin with the opening ceremony on Friday, Feb. 6, but the curling competition will get a head start two days earlier on Wednesday, Feb. 4. The Games will run until Sunday, Feb. 22.
The Winter Paralympic Games will then begin on March 6 and will run until March 15.
How to watch 2026 Winter Olympics
The 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics will be broadcast nationally in the United States by NBC and its partners. Events will be televised on NBC, USA and CNBC. All events at the 2026 Winter Games will be streamed exclusively on Peacock.
Coverage of the 2026 Winter Games will begin with the Opening Ceremony set to take place at the San Siro Stadium in Milan. The ceremony will be broadcast live on NBC and Peacock on Feb. 6.
