Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie's father, the former Prince Andrew, is now called Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor after his princely title was stripped
The shocking move raised the question of what his daughters' last names are now
The line of succession references Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie by both their titles and their married last names
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were born royal as the daughters of the former Prince Andrew, so what is their last name after his royal titles were stripped?
In October 2025, King Charles removed his younger brother's royal style, titles and honors amid renewed scrutiny around the extent of Andrew's connections to the late, disgraced Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew's relationship with the American financier and convicted sex offender set his step back from public life in motion in 2019. Andrew has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
An Oct. 30 statement from Buckingham Palace announced that the former Duke of York would now be called Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, and PEOPLE confirmed soon after that the surname will be spelled Mountbatten-Windsor, using the hyphenated style traditional for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's descendants.
The scandal around Andrew, 65, raised questions around the future of his daughters, Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35, including the status of their royal titles.

As the daughters of a son of the late Queen Elizabeth, PEOPLE understood that Andrew's daughters would retain their royal titles in accordance with King George V's Letters Patent of 1917. Both Beatrice and Eugenie remain princesses and retain the styling of Her Royal Highness (HRH).
When Andrew announced that he was surrendering his royal titles on Oct. 17, PEOPLE understood that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie's titles and positions were wholly unaffected. On Christmas Day, the sisters joined King Charles and other family members for church at Sandringham, while their parents were banished from the gathering.
Andrew shares his adult daughters with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, and the line of succession to the throne gives a clue into what last names Beatrice and Eugenie are currently using.

The Royal Household
Beatrice is listed as "Princess Beatrice, Mrs. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi," reflecting her marriage to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, while Eugenie is similarly styled as "Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank" to reflect her union with Jack Brooksbank.
Both princesses are followed in the line of succession by their children. Princess Beatrice is mom to daughters Sienna, 4, and Athena, 1, while Princess Eugenie is mother to sons August, 4, and Ernest, 2.
Before they got married, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were known as Princess Beatrice of York and Princess Eugenie of York to reflect their father's Duke of York title. While Mountbatten-Windsor is the official surname for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's descendants when a last name is necessary, it's a more common custom for royal children to take their parents' titles as the basis for their surname.

In that tradition, a childhood photo of the sisters shows a "Beatrice York" name tag on a schoolbag in 1994.
The royal sisters seem to have embraced their married last names, at least when it comes to monograms. During a date night with Edo in July 2023, Princess Beatrice carried a handbag monogrammed with "BMM," her initials for Beatrice Mapelli Mozzi.
To celebrate her seventh wedding anniversary in October 2025, Princess Eugenie posted a photo where she sported a jacket stitched with "Mrs. Brooksbank."
Though the picture was undated, Eugenie wore the same pale pink biker jacket for the festival-style party after her royal wedding in 2018.
