Rep. John Lewis battling Stage 4 pancreatic cancer

Rep. John Lewis stated on Sunday that he is affected by Stage 4 pancreatic most cancers and will bear remedy, although he plans to hold serving his district.

Docs found the Georgia Democrat’s condition in a routine December medical visit and subsequent exams. The analysis has been reconfirmed, Lewis stated in a press release.

“I have been in some type of battle — for freedom, equality, primary human rights — for almost my complete life,” he stated. “I have never faced a struggle fairly just like the one I've now.”

A scholar activist who was one of many founders of the Scholar Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, he was part of the Freedom Rides in 1961, the March on Washington in 1963 and the Bloody Sunday March in 1965, the place he was clubbed by a state trooper in Selma, Ala. President Barack Obama awarded him the Medal of Freedom in 2011.
