Pro-Trump super PAC airing ads praising Van Drew


An excellent PAC supporting President Donald Trump started airing advertisements in South Jersey last week boosting U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew instantly after the congressman formally switched his get together affiliation from Democrat to Republican.

POLITICO first reported Friday in New Jersey Playbook that The Committee to Defend the President, an excellent PAC run by a former Colorado state senator, had purchased $208,400 in tv air time and $50,000 in on-line advertisements on Dec. 19 — the identical day Van Drew made his celebration change official and pledged his “undying support” to Trump.

The 30-second advert started airing Dec. 21, the super PAC announced on Twitter. It praises Van Drew for “standing by President Trump fairly than collaborating in a sham impeachment.”

“It takes guts to stand up for what’s right, even when the mob rises towards you,“ the ad says.

The advert comes as Van Drew, who's more likely to run for reelection in 2020 as a Republican in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District, faces three GOP candidates who have been in the race when Van Drew was a Democrat.

Brigid Callahan Harrison, a political science professor at Montclair State College who's already in search of the Democratic nomination, alleged Van Drew “named his worth” while switching parties and that the advert purchase will effectively go towards “rank and file loyal Republicans who have been in search of their celebration’s nomination with a purpose to oppose Van Drew properly before he named his worth.”

In a tweet, the super PAC said Harrison was “spewing lies” by accusing Van Drew of getting a “worth.”

Van Drew left the Democratic Social gathering as inner polls showed his help plummeting amongst registered Democrats within the 2nd District, and as Democratic Social gathering leaders who instantly embraced his candidacy in 2018 have been abandoning him.

Some local Democratic leaders in the district blamed Van Drew’s opposition to impeaching Trump for contributing to losses in New Jersey’s 1st Legislative District, where three Democratic incumbents have been operating as “Staff Van Drew.”

The Committee to Defend the President was based in 2013 because the “Stop Hillary PAC.” It’s run by former Colorado state legislator Ted Harvey and political advisor Guy Brief, in accordance to reviews.

The committee first garnered main media consideration in 2017, when it aired an ad that requested voters to name a number to “pledge your help” to defend Trump.
