NASCAR Cup Series championship leader Denny Hamlin has lambasted Spire Motorsports over title rival Carson Hocevar's latest controversy. Hocevar earned a new enemy on the track this past weekend as he spun one-time champion Brad Keselowski in the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington.

The move left Keselowski furious, with the RFK Racing driver and team owner warning Hocevar about future retribution. Such retaliation could come at a huge cost for Hocevar, with the 22-year-old part of the 16-driver championship "Chase."

Keselowski's warning did little to deter Hocevar from adding fuel to the fire. The Spire superstar issued a sarcastic response before giving fans a discount on his online merchandise store, which generated over $200,000 following the Southern 500.

"I do everything for TV and entertainment purposes based off everybody else [saying so]. Whatever makes good TV. I just do it for the clicks; you know what I mean?" Hocevar said post-race. Hocevar was slammed by two NASCAR legends, Jeff Burton and Dale Jarrett, for a lack of humility in the commentary booth.

Current championship leader Hamlin is the latest to weigh in on Hocevar's latest controversy. While he refused to address Hocevar directly, Hamlin did issue a scathing message to his team, Spire.

"You want me to talk about Spire? I'll talk about Spire," Hamlin said on his podcast. "There's no adults in the room. Clearly, in that building, no adults.

"That's my opinion. Because, how can you honestly think that's what's best for your company if you're running a serious organization? I think they're unserious."

Keselowski may have to think twice before making good on his threat to Hocevar, with NASCAR having a clear precedent for punishing drivers when retaliation is deemed deliberate. His warning of retribution could put him under the microscope should the pair clash again.

NASCAR has previously come down hard on drivers when comments made before an incident are used as evidence of intent. Ryan Preece, Keselowski's teammate, knows that only too well.

The No. 60 driver was hit with a penalty after deliberately taking out Ty Gibbs at Texas Motor Speedway, with NASCAR pointing to Preece's earlier comments about retaliation when determining the punishment. Preece ultimately lost 25 championship points and was fined $50,000 for the incident.

Hocevar sits 12th in the 16-driver field and isn't one of the favorites to be crowned champion at the end of the 10-race postseason. However, he's embracing the underdog role, saying he's "playing with house money."

Tony Romo's arrest following an operating while intoxicated incident makes his timetable to return to the broadcast booth – and his CBS future – murky.

Airing a Super Bowl is a bit like a presidential election.

It might come around every four years, but candidates – in this case, the four networks with the privilege and pockets to be in the broadcast rotation – are constantly jockeying and positioning themselves, especially as their turn nears.

That makes CBS’ conundrum with Tony Romo even more precarious. Super Bowl 61 will return to ABC/ESPN for the first time in two decades to end the 2026 season on Feb. 14, 2027, but then CBS will officially be on the clock for February 2028, when it will host its first Super-Bowl broadcast since 2023.

Romo, the network’s No. 1 game analyst who partners with Jim Nantz, was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) and pleaded no contest Sept. 2 to three charges he faced from the incident, which occurred while in his native Wisconsin on July 23. The subsequent police officer bodycam footage became Internet fodder, as Romo failed his field sobriety test, told the officer who pulled him over he was “going to see grandma and grandpa” (his own parents) and had an open container in the passenger seat.

In his first public comment since the arrest, Romo said via a Sept. 1 statement posted to his Instagram account, “I own this completely.” He also noted an over-reliance on alcohol stemming from a dependence on pain medication following his playing career.

“Tony accepts full responsibility for his actions and has taken proactive steps to ensure that this isolated civil matter is properly resolved,” a spokesperson for Romo had previously said in a statement obtained by USA TODAY Sports after the charges were filed Aug. 27.

When will Tony Romo return to CBS?

Romo is currently on leave from CBS. His arrest, amid years of backsliding performance in the booth, only complicates CBS’ approach for Super Bowl 62 – mainly, will Romo be in the booth representing CBS during the network’s most important day in five years?

“The planning truly starts right after the previous one (Super Bowl),” CBS Sports president David Berson said Aug. 11. “It won’t pick up in earnest until later this season.”

Whether Romo will return by that point remains a mystery.

“What I can say, is that it’s an evolving situation,” Berson said. “And therefore, we’re still assessing. There’s no timetable or final decision at this time.”

Berson and CBS felt it was important to move forward with certainty to focus on the production and marketing of the upcoming season. Former Houston Texans defensive end and three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt moved up from CBS’ No. 2 team with Ian Eagle to be Nantz’s partner for the start of the season.

Romo was due in court Sept. 21 – eight days after what was supposed to be his first assignment for Week 1 of the NFL season – but with the legal matter now closed, there isn’t much red tape to hold up Romo’s return.

“In making this decision, we have to consider the impact on our image and on our brand,” Berson said while elaborating why the network quickly promoted Watt in Romo’s stead for the start of the season. “That’s very important to us.”

CBS would much rather focus on the presentation of the NFL product rather than the memes created by the online community after its lead analyst’s transgression.

“We have a really deep bench, and I’m proud of the way everyone is stepping up and responding,” Berson said.

USA TODAY Sports reached out to CBS multiple times and inquired whether the network had any comment or timeline in light of Romo’s plea and statement but has yet to hear back.

The network owned the most-watched window of 2025, according to Nielsen’s Big Data + Panel ratings, with 25.8 million viewers on average watching the Sunday late afternoon (4:25 p.m. ET) games. The Thanksgiving Day Kansas City Chiefs-Dallas Cowboys contest, called by Nantz and Romo and watched by a record-setting 57 million viewers, helped.

Berson, who took over the job in 2024 with Romo already entrenched in the top booth, referred to Romo’s arrest as a personal and legal matter for the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback.

From Romo-stradamus to question mark

It was Berson’s predecessor, Sean McManus, who made Romo the highest-paid announcer in the game with a lavish 10-year, $180 million deal in 2020.

At the time, Romo was in demand. ESPN desperately tried to woo him into the “Monday Night Football” booth while that iconic brand temporarily floundered until Joe Buck and Troy Aikman arrived.

The demand was warranted. Romo had the institutional knowledge of a quarterback who had played the opposing defenses a year or two earlier at the start of his broadcasting career. He was savant-like, occasionally. His pre-snap predictions, combined with his excitement, offered the necessary combination of intellect and authenticity.

As the seasons passed, however, the schemes changed. The players did, too. And cracks in Romo’s broadcasting game began to show.

The predictions were no longer as precise or as frequent. For some, the boisterous attitude became grating. While there were whispers about his lack of preparation, the evidence – misidentifying players, for example – was indicting. The New York Post reported on an “intervention” by CBS bosses, which initially drew pushback from McManus before he eventually admitted that executives offered Romo feedback prior to the 2023 season.

There’s also the consideration of Watt, who has only one year of experience in the booth. If he and Nantz hit it off in the same way the former defensive end and Eagle did, that would only complicate matters for Berson and his team.

Tony Romo contract

Another question is Romo’s contract and the $72 million left on it. According to The Athletic, Romo’s deal contains a standard morals clause that is inherent in all top talent contracts across the industry. Such language typically stipulates that companies can nullify contracts if their brand has been negatively affected by the talent’s public embarrassment, although there is no indication that is the case with CBS and Romo at the moment. Romo referred to his broadcasting gig as a “profound honor of staying close to the game.”

Another factor affecting Romo’s comeback is his health. Romo said he is working with a team of doctors to address his recovery.

“As I have taught my three young sons: when you fall short, you stand up and take full responsibility,” his statement read. “That is an important first step. The harder and more important step is examining the path that brought you here and making the changes necessary to move forward. That path requires honesty. None of this is an excuse. These are my failures, and I take responsibility for them.”

Only in the last line of his statement did Romo allude to his potential reentry to the booth “in time.”

“As I turn my attention to my health, my family, and, in time, my return to CBS,” Romo said, “I kindly ask for privacy during this period.”

Serena, 44, and Venus, 46, were defeated by Hao-Ching Chan and Maya Joint in a tightly-contested match at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York on Friday, Sept. 4. Following the loss, the sisters did not participate in postgame press conferences, which is a requirement of all Grand Slam athletes if the media requests to speak with them.

According to Bounces reporter Ben Rothenberg, Serena apparently “fled the scene as fast as she could” and left the stadium in a private car directly from the court after the loss.

Venus, however, reportedly stayed at the arena and went into the locker room, according to Rothenberg, expecting to speak with media. And while it is possible for just one member of a doubles pair to speak to media, Venus didn’t do press without her sister on Friday.

Minutes after the match concluded, the USTA reportedly informed the credential media who had requested the sisters that they “will not be available for press tonight,” Rothenberg said.

Per the US Open guidelines, athletes who do not fulfill their media obligations may be fined. However, that’s up to the discretion of the officials, and when Rothenberg asked the USTA if Serena and Venus would face a fee, the association said they will not be penalized for Friday’s media absence.

Before she took the court with Venus on Friday for their first doubles match together since 2022, Serena competed alongside Carlos Alcaraz in mixed doubles. The pair defeated Lloyd Glasspool and his partner Erin Routliffe before being knocked out in the quarterfinals by Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli.

Serena participated in post-match media then, telling reporters, “I never expected to be back on this court.” She added, “It’s just a really cool moment. I never thought this would happen.”

She also opened up about her comeback during an interview with PEOPLE earlier this month. “I really don’t have an agenda right now. I’m taking it one match at a time and seeing where my body can take me,” she explained.

“It’s been exciting to see what I’m capable of and to feel myself getting stronger. Right now, I’m just enjoying being back out there and seeing where it goes,” Serena added.

“I got so trashed, I was on whoever’s worst-dressed list,” she said in a new video

Teri Hatcher has always done fashion her way.

The actress reflected on her past red carpet looks in a new video published by HELLO! magazine on Tuesday, Sept. 8, revealing the polarizing opinions she received about her Jean Paul Gaultier naked dress from the 2006 Grammys.

“My stylist at the time, Vincent Boucher, did this and I love this look and people hated me wearing this,” Hatcher, 61, remembered of the design, which was low-cut and made of sheer navy fabric that displayed her micro shorts underneath.

“I got so trashed, I was on whoever’s worst-dressed list,” she continued. “This was 20 years ago [and now] 20 years later, everyone goes to every event totally with see-through clothes. But at the time, nobody was really doing that.”

“I just think no one wanted to see Susan Mayer from Desperate Housewives [a role she played from 2004 to 2012], who is so vulnerable and clean, dress like this,” she joked, adding that she would have no hesitation about rewearing the daring look.

Elsewhere in the video, the Emmy-nominated star reminisced on her first time walking the Cannes Film Festival red carpet at age 60. She wore an emerald embellished gown with a thigh-high slit for the The History of Sound premiere in 2025.

“Before I went on the carpet, I had met with [fashion editor] Carine Roitfeld and she said to me, ‘When you’re doing something for the first time, really remember it. Be present, enjoy it and recognize that you’re doing something for the first time,’ ” she recalled.

“I never really have fun on a red carpet, I’m very intimidated by them ... and I really had fun,” she added.

Hatcher also looked back on a sweet red carpet moment she shared with her daughter, Emerson Tenney, at the 2024 Remus Lifestyle Night event.

“I just love her so much. I have the best daughter in the whole world. It reminds me of all the great memories I’ve had over the years with my daughter [who the actress shares with ex-husband Jon Tenney],” Hatcher said while looking at a photo of the two coordinating in red dresses.

“She’s now 28, so we don’t get to do quite as many fun, fabulous things like this together because she’s working and busy,” she continued as she opened up about motherhood. “It was a mindful choice I made when she was growing up, as a single mom, to really make time for us. Your kids grow up, so you can never remake those memories so every one I have like this I just treasure.”

Soon, Hatcher will take her confidence in her style into her role as Miranda Priestly in the West End production of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical beginning Oct. 20.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to play some pretty formidable women throughout my career, but very few can compare to THE Miranda Priestly,” Hatcher said in a statement announcing her casting. “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining The Devil Wears Prada in the West End.”

The View moved some of its studio audience to tears with a shock giveaway on the season 30 premiere.

Whoopi Goldberg announced a major prize for the studio crowd, including a trip to Mexico.

The camera showed an audience member wiping away tears following the surprise announcement.

The View just pulled an Oprah Winfrey.

In the final moments of the show’s season 30 premiere Tuesday morning, moderator Whoopi Goldberg revealed a surprise so big that it even moved some audience members to tears.

“There’s nothing more that we love than giveaways on this show,” the 70-year-old EGOT winner said, introducing The View’s 30 Days of Giveaways segment. “All season long, we’ll be surprising the audience with incredible giveaways, and today is our very first one!”

Cohost Sara Haines indicated that the audience was filled with “View superfans,” and that “one of them is going to win a three-night stay” at the Secrets and Dreams Playa Mujeres resorts in Cancun, Mexico.

A drumroll sounded as Goldberg fished around inside a gold box, before pulling one card that — judging by the look on her face — perplexed her in the moment.

She then turned the card around to reveal that “everyone in the audience” would win the prize, leading to pandemonium in the room.

The camera cut to various shots of the studio audience. Some viewers jumped, some clapped, others raised their arms into the air while shouting out in excitement.

After panelist Sunny Hostin explained more details of the trip, the audience could still be heard in the background, celebrating the development.

Goldberg finally cut in to tell viewers, “You know, we will be right back!” amid the chatter. As the show went to a commercial break, the camera caught one woman wiping away tears of joy.

The moment recalled an iconic 2004 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, on which the titular talk show icon surprised her entire studio audience with free cars.

Winfrey recently opened up to Vanity Fair about preparing for the major episode — including when she realized the initial plan to simply place keys inside a gift box for each audience member wouldn’t work, as they were under the impression that only one person would win the vehicle.

Get your daily dose of entertainment news, celebrity updates, and what to watch with our EW Dispatch newsletter.

“I said to the producers, who were up all night long, actually, for this show, ‘We’ve got to tape the keys in the boxes because the first thing people are going to do is shake the box,’” Winfrey told the outlet. “I don’t know if people know this, but we had already given out 11 cars. We’d given out 11 cars on this particular day. There was this 12th car, there was supposedly one car left, and everybody was thinking they were going to be that one person.”

The View airs weekdays on ABC.

Taylor Swift brought some serious sparkle to her latest date night with Travis Kelce. The singer stepped out in New York City on September 6 alongside her husband, delivering an elegant evening look packed with luxe details. While her striped high-slit dress made a statement of its own, Swift’s jewelry collection, including gorgeous earrings, took the look to an entirely different price bracket.

Taylor Swift adds some bling to high-slit dress with Mindi Mond earrings for Travis Kelce date

Taylor Swift accessorized with Mindi Mond’s Imperial Citrine & Diamond Drop Earrings, which retail for a whopping $19,000. The striking earrings feature enormous cushion-cut citrine stones suspended beneath glittering round diamonds, bringing a rich golden-yellow pop of color to her look. According to the product listing, the earrings feature a total citrine weight of 31 carats alongside 1.20 carats of diamonds.

Swift let the statement jewels peek through her softly styled brown waves, which she wore down with her signature bangs. The warm tone of the citrine also complemented the earthy palette of her striped Stella silk blend McCartney halter-neck maxi dress without competing with it. Priced at $2,800, the dress made for a perfect date night look. It featured an asymmetric neckline and a high slit that flashed her leg as she walked.

In addition, the $19K earrings weren’t the only major jewels involved. Swift also wore an Elizabeth Taylor Darlene De Sedle 22-karat gold, opal, and diamond bracelet and ring set. Most notably, her custom Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry diamond engagement ring and wedding band were also on display.

She completed the outfit with metallic Twist 95 Sandals by Aquazzura and a Frayme Scale-Embossed Bucket Bag by Stella McCartney. These luxury accessories also came with a costly price tag. She walked hand-in-hand with her husband, who wore brown pants and a soft mint-green shirt.

With multiple statement jewels stacked into one outfit, Swift proved that sometimes the smallest accessories can make the look stand out.

Rangers fan's voice

Three wins, two clean sheets. The past week or so has been faultless results-wise for Derek McInnes.

However, the most intriguing aspect was how he wants this Rangers team to play. It is all about being compact and using the three behind the striker to hurt teams in transition.

We do not have the profile of midfielder to dominate the ball, but we have the wide players and attackers to hurt teams.

It's a shame for Lawrence Shankland to facing a spell out injured after beginning to find form with three goals in two games.

However, the additions of Badredine Bouanani and Kevin Kelsy on deadline day will help with our attacking options.

The transfer window overall was okay, but we can't be making bold statements on the back of three wins against teams Rangers should be beating. Having said that, it feels like a small step in the right direction.

Two home games this week provides the chance to keep momentum growing. Will midweek visitors St Mirren continue to play the way they did the last time they were at Ibrox? I hope so because it will make for a good game.

And Sunday's Old Firm derby takes on extra significance because it's the first of a double-header. Last season in this scenario we lost both. I think the goodwill McInnes is building will go south if he doesn't achieve two wins this week.
