HHS Secretary Alex Azar and CMS Administrator Seema Verma have been referred to as to the White Home for a meeting with appearing chief of employees Mick Mulvaney, within the latest try and quash their escalating feud, based on three people with information of the gathering.
It's unclear whether or not President Donald Trump will attend the assembly, tentatively planned for Thursday.
Administration officials say Azar and Verma should either pledge to make amends or otherwise resolve a conflict that is threatening Trump's well being agenda and complicating his reelection prospects. Vice President Mike Pence already met separately with Azar and Verma this month, and Trump had a personal assembly with Verma in mid-November.
The periods have to date did not defuse an more and more public battle that Azar and Verma allies worry might value one or both their jobs. Multiple sources near the state of affairs informed POLITICO in current days that they worry the connection between Azar and Verma cannot be salvaged.
CMS referred questions concerning the Mulvaney assembly to the White Home, which didn’t reply to a request for remark. HHS declined to comment.
