Trump team cranks up attacks on Schiff

President Donald Trump and his allies on Monday ratcheted up their campaign towards Rep. Adam Schiff as the White House’s Ukraine scandal entered its second week — with Trump once more suggesting the House Intelligence chairman dedicated treason.

Locked in a defensive crouch and staring down an impeachment inquiry, Trump continued to batter the California Democrat for allegedly mischaracterizing his July telephone name with newly elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Rep. Adam Schiff illegally made up a FAKE & terrible assertion, pretended it to be mine as an important a part of my name to the Ukrainian President, and skim it aloud to Congress and the American individuals,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “It bore NO relationship to what I stated on the decision. Arrest for Treason?”

During Trump’s conversation with Zelensky, the president urged his overseas counterpart to work with Lawyer Common William Barr to research former Vice President Joe Biden and his son.

After Schiff provided a knowingly exaggerated version of the call’s transcript before a meeting of his committee last Thursday, conservative commentators and Republican lawmakers have been quick to castigate the congressman on social media and cable news.

Trump demanded Sunday that Schiff be “questioned on the highest degree for Fraud & Treason,” and claimed that his “lies have been made in perhaps probably the most blatant and sinister method ever seen within the nice Chamber.”

Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s private lawyer, stored up that line of attack Monday, charging that Schiff “did not embellish” however as an alternative “lied about” the memo the White House released last week summarizing the Zelensky call.

“He stood in front of the American individuals with hundreds of thousands of individuals listening and he lied,” Giuliani informed the Fox Enterprise Network. “He put on a silly phony present, identical to he lied when he stated he had direct proof of Russian collusion.”

Eric Trump, the president’s son, also assailed Schiff on Monday, telling the hosts of “Fox & Associates” that the congressman “is strictly why we'd like time period limits on this nation” and remarking: “He’s a complete disgrace.”

Along with his submit newly concentrating on Schiff, Trump sought Monday to forged doubt on the accuracy of a whistleblower grievance that detailed his name with Zelensky and alleged efforts by White Home officers to “lock down” data of the conversation.

“The Pretend Whistleblower grievance isn't holding up. It is principally concerning the name to the Ukrainian President which, within the identify of transparency, I instantly launched to Congress & the public,” Trump tweeted. “The Whistleblower knew virtually nothing, its 2ND HAND description of the decision is a fraud!”

The president later Monday appeared to reference a report by the conservative publication The Federalist — promoted repeatedly in that morning’s broadcast of “Fox & Buddies” — which said that the U.S. intelligence group between Might 2018 and August 2019 had eradicated the first-hand information requirement from its whistleblower grievance type.

“WHO CHANGED THE LONG STANDING WHISTLEBLOWER RULES JUST BEFORE SUBMITTAL OF THE FAKE WHISTLEBLOWER REPORT? DRAIN THE SWAMP!” Trump tweeted, adding in another message one minute later: “#FakeWhistleblower.”

An anonymous American intelligence officer filed the complaint in early August, and Michael Atkinson, the intelligence group’s inspector basic, deemed its allegations credible and “urgent.”

The whistleblower acknowledged within the grievance that he or she “was not a direct witness to a lot of the events described,” but wrote that the grievance’s allegations have been knowledgeable by the accounts of “greater than half a dozen U.S. officers” offered over the prior 4 months.

The grievance’s description of the call between Trump and Zelensky is essentially just like the readout the White House produced last Wednesday. Joseph Maguire, the appearing Director of Nationwide Intelligence, testified earlier than Schiff’s Intelligence committee final Thursday that “the whistleblower's grievance is in alignment with what was released yesterday by the president.”

Trump previously lashed out Sunday on the whistleblower, asserting that “I deserve to satisfy my accuser,” as well as “the one that illegally gave this info, which was largely incorrect” to the unknown intelligence official.

“Was this individual SPYING on the U.S. President? Huge Penalties!” he tweeted.
