Former British Prime Minister David Cameron on Sunday supported the reason provided as to why Vice President Joe Biden pressured the president of Ukraine in 2015 to crack down on corruption.

Speaking on “Fareed Zakaria GPS” on CNN, Cameron stated, “It's definitely true to say that the British view, I feel in widespread with the American view, was that Ukraine wanted to do extra to deal with corruption.“

Cameron added: “Our view was, we're helping you when it comes to your protection, and we're serving to when it comes to standing up to the Russian aggression, but you'll want to help us by dealing with corruption in your country and that was a standard theme with all of the interactions that I had notably with President [Petro] Poroshenko.”

Supporters of President Donald Trump — notably his lawyer Rudy Giuliani — have argued that Trump’s much-criticized July 25 telephone name with the present president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, was applicable as a result of Biden had been corrupt in pushing Poroshenko to eliminate the state prosecutor and deal with other corruption. Giuliani alleged that Biden was trying to assist his son, Hunter Biden, who had financial connections in Ukraine. Defenders of Biden have stated that what Biden did in pushing Ukraine’s leadership was according to these objectives.

“Ukraine can't afford the individuals to lose hope again,” Biden stated in addressing the topic of corruption in a December 2015 visit, referring to corruption as a “cancer.“

Cameron additionally advised Zakaria he thought the Trump administration made a mistake in pulling out of the Iran nuclear agreement — which was negotiated during his tenure as prime minister, together with his assistance — with no new deal in place.

“The trouble with getting out of it is you are changing something with large uncertainty,” Cameron stated. “By all means attempt to enhance on the deal, attempt to ensure that it runs on for longer. However truly walking away from it, and not using a real answer, I assume truly makes the world less protected somewhat than more protected.“
