Shania Twain reveals she did "unhealthy things" in order to try and lose weight during her 2019 Las Vegas residency.

The "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" singer says she performed intense exercise and cut sugars and fats from her diet.

It resulted in her becoming "malnourished" and tearing two muscles in her thigh.

Shania Twain is opening up about the "unhealthy things" that she tried in order to lose weight during her 2019 Las Vegas residency.

The "You're Still the One" singer, 60, revealed in a recent Sunday Timesinterview that she was so "malnourished" during her six-date Let's Go residency that she suffered two torn muscles in her thigh and had to be carried offstage at one point.

"In menopause you lose control of your body," Twain told the outlet. "So all of a sudden I'm bloating and I'm definitely not in control. I can't just lose five pounds."

The five-time Grammy winner shared that her perception of her changing body got so bad that she "stopped looking at myself in the mirror" before concerts entirely.

"I hated my body. I'm, like, 'Oh, I cannot stand this changing body,'" she recalled. "But that was so unhealthy. Who cannot look at themselves in the mirror?"

At the time, Twain explained that she did intense exercise and cut fats and sugars from her diet in order to lose weight.

"I was doing very unhealthy things," she remarked. "And I was working my body more than I was feeding it, to keep up with the strain."

When her diet and exercise efforts ended up having an impact on her thigh injury recovery, Twain knew that she needed to change both her lifestyle and mindset moving forward.

"Now I'm, like, bring on the mirrors, I'm going to look at myself all day long!" the vocalist said. "Menopause has been very good for me because I've learnt that some things you cannot control."

She eventually returned to Sin City five years later to host a new residency, titled Come On Over — All the Hits!, which ran from May 2024 until February 2025.

Twain has been open about the health challenges she's faced over the years, revealing in 2023 that she nearly died after suffering a "really bad bout" of COVID-19.

"I had to be airvacked by a special team because nobody else would fly me to the hospital, because you can't just pick up a COVID patient and fly them to a hospital," Twain told Apple Music at the time, before revealing she was subsequently diagnosed with COVID pneumonia.

"Every day, my lungs were filling up with inflammation. Every day," she said. "Within 12 days, I was pretty much dying. Thankfully, I had plasma therapy, and it worked."
