Actress Debra Jo Rupp famously played Eric Forman's (Topher Grace) friendly and sometimes feisty mother, Kitty Forman, in the 8-season Fox sitcom,That '70s Show.
People magazine reported that Rupp shared some of her qualms regarding the show, which had its series finale in 2006, in a January 2023 interview with Entertainment Weekly, alongside her on-screen husband, Kurtwood Smith. Rupp suggested that she wasn't a fan of Kitty's wardrobe.
"The clothing became very troublesome to me. I was extremely worried about it," said Rupp during the interview.
She also noted that she owns the "big, giant, long wrap-around skirt" and the "big red blouse with a big frill thing" that Kitty wears during the show's pilot episode.
"And I remember thinking, 'I wonder if anyone's going to even see me in this show, between the wig — actually, that was my hair at that time — and that big, huge, floaty costume,'" said Rupp during the Entertainment Weekly interest.
Rupp also revealed she didn't know the show was based in the 1970s when she was cast as Kitty.
"I think I was in a bit of shock because I did not realize that this was set in the 70s until I saw the appliances on the set. I somehow missed that part in the script," said Rupp to the publication.
Debra Jo Rupp Returned to Play Kitty in 'That '90s Show'
Both Rupp and Smith returned to play Kitty and Red for the three-season Netflix sequel series, That '90s Show. The sitcom, which premiered in 2023, focused on Eric and Donna's (Laura Prepon) daughter, Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), as she spends time at her grandparents' Wisconsin home.
During a promotional 2022 interview with Netflix, Rupp expressed gratitude for being able to reprise her role as Kitty. She shared that she appreciated filming alongside her former That '70s Show castmates, like Smith, Prepon, Grace, Mila Kunis, and Ashton Kutcher, on That '90s Show.
"It has been a gift, seeing all the kids come back. It was almost like no time passed. We have like a mini reunion every week. It's just been amazing," said Rupp in the interview.
