Most celebrity feuds come and go, but few have grabbed as much attention as the long-running saga between Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian. Over the years, the global pop star and reality TV mogul have had their fair share of ups and downs.

The drama first started bubbling between them in 2016, thanks to Swift's complicated history with Kanye West (now known as Ye), who was married to Kardashian at the time. Tensions soon hit a boiling point, and both women have continued to reference their feud over the years.

Even a decade later, the saga is still getting plenty of attention. In early 2026, Kardashian spoke about Swift again — but this time, it was all compliments.

Below, take a closer look at Swift and Kardashian's feud, what they've said about it, and where they stand today.

When did Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift's feud begin?

Kardashian once professed herself to be "the biggest Taylor Swift fan." In 2009, she gushed about the singer on a red carpet, telling *Entertainment Tonight* that "Love Story" was the No. 1 song on her iPod at the time.

That same year, Swift's long-running feud with Ye began at the MTV Video Music Awards when he interrupted her acceptance speech for winning Best Female Music Video of the Year. "Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you. I'ma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time," the rapper declared after taking the mic.

For a few years, tensions appeared to ease. Kardashian married Ye in 2014, and Swift and Ye even seemed cordial. Kardashian and Swift were all smiles in photos at the 2015 Grammys and VMAs, where Swift presented Ye with the Video Vanguard Award.

The situation soured in February 2016 when Ye released "Famous," the lead single from *The Life of Pablo*. In the song, Ye takes a shot at Swift with the lyric, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that b---- famous."

Swift responded indirectly at the Grammys that year, urging young women to stay focused on their work and not let others "undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame."

In June 2016, Kardashian told *GQ* that Swift signed off on the controversial lyric before "Famous" was released. "She totally approved that," Kardashian said. "She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn't."

Swift's team pushed back in a statement to *GQ*, saying Kardashian was simply "repeating" what Ye told her. They added that much of what Kardashian claimed was inaccurate, noting that Ye and Swift "only spoke once on the phone while she was on vacation with her family in January of 2016 and they have never spoken since."

"Taylor has never denied that conversation took place," the statement continued, alleging that Ye asked Swift to share the song on her X account, which she declined.** **"A song cannot be approved if it was never heard. Kanye West never played the song for Taylor Swift."

What really went down in the phone call between Taylor Swift and Ye?

In July 2016, the feud worsened when Kardashian shared snippets of the phone call on Snapchat. In one recording, Ye runs Swift through the "Famous" lyric, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex," and she replies, "It's obviously very tongue-in-cheek either way… And I really appreciate you telling me about it. That's really nice."

"I never would've expected you to tell me about a line in your song," the singer added. "I mean, I don't think anybody would listen to that and be like, 'Oh, that's a real diss.' You gotta tell the story that way that it happened to you and the way you experienced it."

Swift also thanks Ye for letting her know about it in advance. "If people ask me about it, look, I think it would be great for me to be, like, 'He called me and told me before it came out… Joke's on you, guys. We're fine.'"

Once the call hit the internet, fans immediately rallied behind Ye and Kardashian.

How did Taylor Swift respond to the phone call going public?

Swift quickly defended herself on Instagram and called out Ye for secretly recording their phone call.

"Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me 'that b----' in his song?'" she said, per PEOPLE. "It doesn't exist because it never happened… While I wanted to be supportive of Kanye on the phone call, you cannot 'approve' a song you haven't heard."

She went on to say, "Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is character assassination."

That argument resurfaced years later, when the full call between Swift and Ye leaked online in March 2020. The video shows that Ye asked Swift to help promote "Famous" on social media, and that she did approve of the "might still have sex" line. But it also makes it clear that Ye never told her about the follow-up lyric, "I made that b---- famous."

Swift also asks to hear the final version of the song and Ye agrees, though the "Bad Blood" singer has long said he never followed through on his promise.

Swift responded with a pointed Instagram Story, claiming the leaked video "[proves] that I was telling the truth the whole time about *that call* (you know, the one that was illegally recorded, that *somebody* edited and manipulated in order to frame me and put me, my family, and fans through hell for 4 years)."

Kardashian fired back that same night in a post on X, writing, "To be clear, the only issue I ever had around the situation was that Taylor lied through her publicist who stated that 'Kanye never called to ask for permission…' They clearly spoke so I let you all see that. Nobody ever denied the word 'b----' was used without her permission."**

Did Taylor Swift take shots at Kim Kardashian in her music?

Swift has a way of turning drama into music, and her feud with Ye and Kardashian is no exception. When she released her sixth album *Reputation* in 2017, fans speculated that songs like "Look What You Made Me Do" and "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" were taking shots at the couple, calling out their perceived betrayal and shady behavior.

On the latter track, Swift seems to reference that infamous phone call: "It was so nice being friends again / There I was, giving you a second chance / But you stabbed me in the back while shakin' my hand," she sings. "And therein lies the issue, friends don't try to trick you / Get you on the phone and mind-twist you / And so I took an axe to a mended fence."

Swift seemingly revisited the feud again on her 2024 LP *The Tortured Poets Department.* Songs "Cassandra" and "thanK you aIMee," stood out to eagle-eyed fans, with the latter's title spelling out Kim through its capitalized letters.

On "thanK you aIMee," Swift channels the frustration she feels towards someone dubbed Aimee.

"All that time you were throwin' punches, I was buildin' somethin' / And I can't forgive the way you made me feel," she sings. "Screamed, 'F--- you, Aimee' to the night sky, as the blood was gushin' / But I can't forget the way you made me heal."

Swift sings about how Aimee "wrote headlines" and mocked "each baby step I'd take" to bounce back. By the end, Swift shares how she eventually came out on top and "built a legacy which you can't undo."

"But when I count the scars, there's a moment of truth / That there wouldn't be this if there hadn't been you," she adds.

As for "Cassandra," Swift appears to take aim at how she felt ignored after Kardashian shared the phone call. "When the first stone's thrown, there's screaming / In the streets, there's a raging riot," she sings. "When it's 'Burn the b----,' they're shrieking / When the truth comes out, it's quiet."

Swift references the Trojan priestess Cassandra, who was gifted with foresight but never believed, drawing a parallel to how her own warnings and side of the story were dismissed.

Listeners also speculated that she was calling out the entire Kardashian family for staying silent. "They knew, they knew, they knew the whole time / That I was onto something / The family, the pure greed, the Christian chorus line," she sings. "They all said nothing / Blood's thick but nothing like a payroll / Bet they never spared a prayer for my soul."

Have Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift moved on?

The stars still occasionally talk about their feud. In January 2019, Kardashian appeared on *Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen* and insisted she was "over it," as everyone had moved on from the drama.

But a few months later, Swift responded with an essay for *Elle*, in which she alluded to her history with Ye and Kardashian. "I learned that disarming someone's petty bullying can be as simple as learning to laugh," she wrote, noting that most bullies "want to be feared and taken seriously." Swift also mentioned a social media campaign in which she was labeled a "snake" and emphasized that, while an apology would be appreciated, the real win is "knowing I could survive it, and thrive in spite of it."

In December 2021, Kardashian was asked about Swift during a segment on the *Honestly with Bari Weiss *podcast. She praised the singer, saying she enjoys "a lot of her songs" and finds them "super cute and catchy."

Where do Kim and Taylor stand today?

Kardashian and Swift haven't publicly clarified the current state of their relationship, though it seems they aren't close.

When Swift was named *Time*'s 2023 Person of the Year, she revisited the leaked phone call with Ye, describing the public backlash as a "career death" that "took me down psychologically to a place I've never been before."

"Make no mistake — my career was taken away from me," she explained. "You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar."

The aftermath, she said, hit her hard: "I moved to a foreign country. I didn't leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls," Swift shared. "I pushed away most people in my life because I didn't trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard."

Regardless, Kardashian gushed about Swift in January 2026 on her sister Khloé's podcast, *Khloé in Wonder Land*.

During their chat, Khloé revealed that Kim still listens to her music. "I think I've said it," Kim replied. "I have some of her older songs in my playlist. I've always thought she's like a super talented, great artist."

Representatives for Swift did not respond to **'s request for comment about Kardashian's recent remarks.
