One air traveler documented his experience "making espresso at 35,000 feet" on TikTok

One air traveler has turned his economy seat into a personal barista bar.

On Nov. 20, a TikTok user named Ozan Cetinkaya, whose social media is dedicated to documenting his learnings and travels as a home barista, shared a video of himself "making espresso at 35,000 feet."

The video begins by showing Cetinkaya's perspective as he pours a pre-weighed bag of espresso beans into a handheld grinder. He then puts the fine coffee grounds into a portafilter before brewing an espresso shot with what appears to be a portable espresso machine controlled by his phone.

To make the experience even more immersive and aesthetic, Cetinkaya brought his own ceramic espresso mug on his journey.

While fellow travelers had extremely mixed reactions to the poster's choice of in-flight activities, it seems most onlookers deemed his actions "insufferable" or those of a "performative barista."

"You can live without espresso until you land," one user wrote in the comments, while another added, "If I have to hear coffee beans grinding at 35 thousand feet I'm telling the pilot to turn around."

Another commenter quipped, "Next time I fly, I'll bring my portable BBQ and grill up some steaks."

While some people pointed out that airplane coffee comes at absolutely no cost and that Cetinkaya could just ask the cabin crew for an espresso, others didn't seem to mind his desire for a self-made cup of espresso.

"Why ppl so mad lol I'd enjoy the smell of fresh ground coffee, one of my top 5," one user expressed, while another wrote, "This is literally not a big deal why is everyone mad? 😭."

One even went as far as admitting they would want some for themselves, writing, "If I smell freshly brewed espresso on my flight and I don't get any I will crash out."

In addition to the many emotions and opinions the poster's airplane espresso evoked, some TikTok users simply wondered how Cetinkaya got all of the equipment onto the aircraft.

"There's no way that actually got through TSA," one user wrote, while another asked, "How's all that allowed on the plane but not my sunblock?"
