"The Hoodie" may finally add a gold jacket to his wardrobe come 2027.

Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick will have to wait at least until 2027 in order to hear his named called for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. After his snub in 2026 – and the reaction that followed – entry in 2027 felt like a foregone conclusion. However, an update in the Hall's voting process may make it a bit easier for the eight-time Super Bowl champ.

On Sept. 4, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced wholesale changes to its voting process, most notably slashing the amount of selectors from 50 to 28 (25 voters, three non-voters), allowing less wiggle room among the contingent to debate, but also weighing the voices in the room more heavily.

Depending on the committee of voters, that means that Belichick, who reportedly received 39 of 50 votes, one vote shy of induction, would almost certainly be a lock to make the trip to Canton next year.

But, why didn't Belichick make it in the first time? There might be a few reasons:

Why didn't Bill Belichick make the Hall of Fame?

Belichick failed to receive the votes needed to earn enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Individuals nominated for the Hall of Fame must receive 40 votes from the 50-person panel to be inducted.

That 50-person panel, though, is no more. On Aug. 4, the Hall of Fame announced that the selectors will reduce to 28 (25 voters, three non-voters).

Belichick, who reportedly received 39 of a required 40 votes for induction last year. The percentage for induction remains the same: A candidate must receive 80% of the vote (20 of 25 votes, previously 40 of 50) in order to be fitted for that gold jacket.

Because voting is not public, the panel of voters – comprised mainly of journalists – who did not vote for Belichick are not required to explain the reasoning for their decision.

Could Belichick's NFL controversies have played a part in the snub? The Patriots were the perpetrators of a couple of "Gates" while Belichick was at the helm, with Spygate and Deflategate scandals earning him the largest fine ever doled out to an NFL coach ($500,000).

MORE: Who else could join Bill Belichick in '27 class?

Others will point to Belichick's lack of success as a head coach without Tom Brady as a wart – though Brady has routinely advocated for his decades-long coach to be enshrined in Canton.

Rumors also surfaced that former Indianapolis Colts general manager Bill Polian may have spearheaded a behind-the-scenes campaign to keep Belichick out of the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

Polian referred to those allegations as "unequivocally false" in a conversation with USA TODAY Sports' Jarrett Bell.

"I was shocked that he didn’t get in," Polian told Bell. "He deserves to be in the Hall, without question. He’s eminently qualified. I’m sorry he didn’t get in. I look forward to voting for him next year."

Now, with an adjusted voting process, Belichick faces a more-than realistic opportunity to earn a gold jacket in 2027.

Bill Belichick career record

Belichick posted a 333-188 record across his 29 seasons as an NFL head coach, playoffs included. Only Don Shula (347) has more wins than him and Belichick is one of just three coaches with 300 regular-season wins, along with Shula and George Halas.

Belichick's 31 postseason wins are the most in NFL history. Only current Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid (28) is within shouting distance.

How many Super Bowls has Bill Belichick won?

Belichick has won eight Super Bowls during his career, the most by any individual. A pair came with the New York Giants, where he served as the team's defensive coordinator under Bill Parcells, and six came with the New England Patriots.

Belichick made it to an additional three Super Bowls as New England's head coach.

2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame class

Five individuals were voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2026. They are as follows:

Quarterback Drew Brees (San Diego Chargers, New Orleans Saints, 2001-2020)

Running back Roger Craig (San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, 1983-1993)

Linebacker Luke Kuechly (Carolina Panthers, 2012-2019)

Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona Cardinals, 2004-2020)

Kicker Adam Vinatieri (New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, 1995-2019)

"Big Brother" spoilers ahead: Week 9 HOH Barrett Pfeiffer's nominations are in, and he's placed Dee Valladares, Rick Devens, and Angela Murray on the block, setting the stage for this weekend's Power of Veto competition.

The nominations answered one of the biggest questions facing fans after Barrett's Head of Household win handed him control of Week 9 following LaTrice "Lala" Verrett's eviction and the start of jury.

Unlike earlier uncertainty about whether Barrett would fully commit to breaking up the Crossovers, the new HOH spent Thursday night signaling he was ready to take a major shot. Barrett discussed targeting the Icons, admitted he lost trust in Dee Valladares weeks ago and acknowledged that his nominations could fracture the house's existing alliance structure.

Barrett also repeatedly identified Yash Patel as a backdoor target, suggesting the New Jersey native could emerge as a replacement nominee depending on the outcome of the Power of Veto competition. Throughout live-feed conversations Thursday night and Friday, Barrett assured Drew Campbell and Melody Morris they were safe this week, narrowing his options and leaving several major names vulnerable heading into nominations.

Hours before the nomination ceremony, the Icons publicly exposed the terms of Dee's BB Bribe agreement with Yash, triggering a heated confrontation in front of the entire house. Dee, Devens and Angela said Yash had agreed not to nominate any of the three Icons during his next Head of Household reign, while Yash insisted the deal protected only Dee. The confrontation left several houseguests questioning Yash's version of events and may have significantly increased his chances of becoming Barrett's replacement nominee or a future target.

Whether the confrontation ultimately impacts Barrett's plans remains unclear. However, the fallout could reshape the game after the Power of Veto competition, especially if Yash becomes available as a replacement nominee.

Who did Barrett nominate on 'Big Brother' Week 9?

Week 9 HOH Barrett Pfeiffer nominated Dee Valladares, Rick Devens, and Angela Murray during the Week 9 nomination ceremony. The three houseguests are on the block and face possible eviction heading into this week's Power of Veto competition.

This week's BB28 nominations come after Barrett won Head of Household following Thursday night's live eviction and the start of jury.

Who's on the block on 'Big Brother' this week?

Dee Valladares, Rick Devens, and Angela Murray are on the block following Friday's nomination ceremony.

One of the nominees could come off the block if the Power of Veto is used this weekend.

Why did Barrett nominate Dee, Devens and Angela?

As the new HOH, Barrett's goal is to evict an Icon. Before nominations, Barrett repeatedly discussed targeting veteran players and acknowledged that doing so could completely reshape the house's alliances.

Throughout Thursday night's live-feed conversations, Barrett openly considered nominations involving members of the Icons alliance while also identifying Yash Patel as a possible backdoor target.

Barrett's concerns may have intensified during Friday's one-on-one conversations. While discussing a BB Bribe agreement with Yash Patel, Dee told Barrett the deal protected not only herself but also fellow Icons Rick Devens and Angela Murray during a future Yash Head of Household reign. Although Dee appeared to present the information as a sign of transparency, the conversation highlighted how closely tied the three veteran players remain. Barrett later told Drew Campbell he was skeptical of parts of Dee's explanation.

Barrett had already told Drew Campbell and Melody Morris they were safe this week, significantly narrowing his list of options heading into the nomination ceremony.

What happened with Dee's BB Bribe on 'Big Brother'?

Hours before nominations, Dee Valladares, Rick Devens and Angela Murray publicly revealed details of Dee's BB Bribe agreement with Yash Patel to the whole house. The Icons said the agreement prevented Yash from nominating any of the three veterans during a future HOH reign, while Yash insisted the deal protected only Dee. The disagreement sparked a confrontation in front of much of the house and left several players questioning Yash's version of events.

Who is Barrett targeting on 'Big Brother' this week?

Based on Barrett's live-feed conversations before nominations, Dee Valladares or Rick Devens appeared to be the HOH's preferred target entering Week 9.

Barrett repeatedly said he wants either a Survivor player or Yash Patel evicted this week. Conversations on the live feeds suggested Dee's position may have weakened further after she disclosed details of a BB Bribe deal that protected herself, Devens and Angela during a future Yash HOH.

However, the Power of Veto competition could still dramatically alter his plans.

Is Barrett planning a 'Big Brother' backdoor?

Possibly. Before nominations, Barrett repeatedly identified Yash Patel could be part of a backdoor plan and suggested he could become a replacement nominee depending on how the Power of Veto competition unfolds.

A backdoor occurs when a houseguest avoids the initial nominations but is later placed on the block after the veto competition.

What happens after 'Big Brother' nominations?

The Power of Veto competition comes after the HOH nominations.

If a nominee wins veto and removes themselves from the block, Barrett must name a replacement nominee. Houseguests will then vote to evict one of the final nominees during Thursday's live eviction episode.

When is the Power of Veto competition?

The Power of Veto competition for Week 9 is expected to take place Saturday. The three nominees will play, plus two other houseguests chosen by Barrett, at random.

The results will determine whether Barrett's nominations remain intact or whether he name a replacement nominee, potentially opening the door to a backdoor plan involving Yash, or even another houseguest.

New details have emerged about the incident that led to Wheel of Fortune announcer Jim Thornton‘s suspension from the show, including what a fellow airline passenger allegedly saw on his laptop and his attorney’s explanation for how he ended up on the concerning website.

According to TMZ, Thornton was on an American Airlines flight from Charlotte to Los Angeles in May when another passenger saw what she described as “disturbing messages and images” on his laptop.

The passenger believed it was a chatroom for people with pedophilic interests, took pictures of Thornton visiting the site, and alerted the flight crew. The captain contacted authorities, and law enforcement met Thornton when the plane landed at LAX. He was questioned and then allowed to leave.

Thornton’s attorney Allison Hart told TMZ that Thornton became involved in suicide-prevention advocacy after losing a close family member to suicide two years ago and had spent time in online forums offering support to people experiencing suicidal thoughts.

According to Hart, Thornton was sent a link by an acquaintance to a separate site for people with pedophilic thoughts. Thornton claims he left after realizing what the site.

TMZ reports timestamps appeared to show he was in the room for at least 57 minutes.

His attorney stressed that the site itself is not illegal and denied that Thornton viewed, downloaded, or consumed illicit materials. She also stated Thornton was never arrested or charged with a crime. “In short, my client did nothing wrong,” she said.

The incident subsequently led to Thornton’s suspension from Wheel of Fortune.

Thornton joined Wheel of Fortune in 2011 after the passing of longtime announcer Charlie O’Donnell. He also announces the primetime spinoff Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.

Despite having already filmed a handful of Wheel of Fortune shows for Season 44, it was reported that producers are working hard to remove announcer Jim Thornton from the episodes after his incident on a plane.

Two decades after the tragic death of Steve Irwin, his loved ones have not forgotten him or his legacy.

The Irwin family shared tributes to the wildlife conservationist who died on Sept. 4, 2006 following a freak stingray accident. Terri Irwin, Steve’s beloved wife, shared an emotional post to Instagram, remembering her late husband.

“After 20 years, grief still walks with me like my shadow,” Terri wrote. “With the passing of time I have gained more perspective and understanding.”

Ours was to be a long and sweet goodbye,” Terri recalled. “Steve spent time with Bindi and Robert building swings and climbing trees. We all slowed down. Time slowed down. I believe that all of us, every one of us, gets to say goodbye. We just may not know that we’re saying it. Hold every moment dear with the ones you love. Until we meet again.❤️”

Bindi, 28, commented on her mom’s post, writing, “I love you so much, Mum. ❤️ You are the strongest woman I know.”

- The 58-year-old Lala reacts to the Zingbot saying she was desperately trying to hang on to her youth.

- LaTrice also shares her feelings on Drew, Haley, and more.

LaTrice Verrett may be 58 years old, but she was never going to let age get in the way of her competing alongside people less than half her age in the *Big Brother* house… no matter what the Zingbot might say.

The 58-year-old made it all the way to day 59 of the game, winning the show’s most famous Head of Household endurance competition along the way on “The Wall.” She also showed off her fitness by taking first place in last week’s exercise machine Veto competition. (Take *that*, Zingbot!)

Alas, it was not enough, as Lala was voted out on Thursday’s live eviction episode after secret target Rick Devens won the BB Block Buster to stay safe in the game. That meant the vote came down to either Lala or ally Taylor Brown, and the house elected to evict LaTrice by a vote of 4-2.

Was Lala surprised to be voted out by her peers? What does she have to say about her clear disdain for Drew Campbell on her way out the door? And how is she feeling about how things went down between her and Haley Thogmartin in the house? We asked all of that and more of the first season 28 jury member on the way to her second sequester.

LaTrice Verrett on 'Big Brother' season 28

LaTrice Verrett on ‘Big Brother’ season 28.

**: When you sat down on the couch with Taylor after Devens won the Block Buster, what did you think was going to happen with the vote?**

**LATRICE VERRETT: **Well, Dalton, with the talks that I had prior to us even sitting down, I really thought I had the votes to stay. I had assurances from some of my cast members that, “Yes, we will definitely be voting for you. Yes, we’re gonna keep you.” And so I was a bit taken aback when it came that they were kicking me out. I was like. “WHAAAT?” But you know what? It’s the nature of the game. They can lie directly to your face and keep it moving. So it is what it is. I think I made my mark while I was there, though.

**You gave just a very quick hug to Drew on your way out and did not seem happy listening to his goodbye message. What’s your take on him as a player and a person?**

Drew’s a weasel. He weasels his way from side to side, from person to person. He worked on my heartstrings when I was Head of Household and I could’ve put him on the block. I was so much like his mother, and, you know, he cried, and I hugged him, and I thought we were real cool. And the next thing I know, he threw me under the bus for that next nomination.

So when I hugged Drew, it was more of just because I didn’t want to mush him in the face. [Laughs] I really didn’t wanna hug him, but I was like, “Oh, let me go ahead.” ‘Cause Drew was very disappointing as far as I was concerned. I was very disappointed with him. I understand that he’s playing the game. However, I believe there still is a human component in it where I think that he could have worked the things that he did a little bit differently. So yeah, that hug was just because he was standing there and it would’ve been very rude not to hug him. [Laughs]

**You and Haley certainly had some words at times in the house. How do you feel about your interactions with her?**

Haley was a very passive-aggressive person, and I’m not really into people who don’t claim what they really feel and how they really feel. Haley actually at one point called me a bully. And a bully is not someone who ignores you. I simply ignored her because my mother always said, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” So I just wouldn’t say anything at all. And she considered that as a bully.

And I told her, I said, “You probably need to look up the definition of what bully is, because that’s not who I am at all. My child was bullied and I know what bullying is. So when I stay away from you and I don’t say anything to you, that simply means that, you know what? I don’t have anything nice to say, so I’m not gonna say anything.”

She and I — I don’t know why it was such an oil and water kind of thing, but she wasn’t really my cup of tea. She just wasn’t my cup of tea. And I tolerated her and I dealt with her because I had to be in that house. But yeah, me and Haley — we weren’t cool like that. And it’s all good because you’re not gonna like everybody. So that was kind of the case with Ms. Haley.

**The Zingbot was in rare form this year. What do you make of it saying you have been desperately clinging to your youth for the past 30 years?**

Honey, Zingbot does not know Lala then, baby, because there is no clinging. I claim my age, every 58 years, and I loved every year of it. So holding onto youth, no, I just am who I am. So if you see me holding onto youth, then you just think I’m youthful! So that’s all. I thought Zingbot could have came a little harder than that. That was a little lame. But it’s okay. He’s Zingbot.

- Zooey Deschanel and Jake Johnson recently reminisced on late nights spent on the *New Girl* set.

- Deschanel admitted the hours were “insane” and that she had to call her mother to keep her awake on the drive home.

- The actress also revealed that the cast did not have drivers taking them to and from set.

There were many late nights when the *New Girl* cast had to throw on their driving moccasins.

Zooey Deschanel recently shared that she and the rest of her costars were “forced to drive home” from set because “none of us had rides to work.”

“The hours were insane,” she recalled in a conversation with castmate Jake Johnson, during Wednesday’s episode of his podcast, *We’re Here to Help*. “I would drive home from work and be almost like falling asleep.”

Jake Johnson hopes to reunite with ‘New Girl’ costars on his new show ‘Sunset P.I.’

Some nights were so exhausting that Deschanel had to call in reinforcements for the trip home.

“My mom would wake up in the middle of the night because I’d be like, ‘I’m so tired. I can’t drive home,’” she added. “And she would wake up to talk to me so I’d stay awake. Isn’t that really sweet?”

Johnson agreed that the schedule was “too much.” While he doesn’t typically work long days now, he shared that he and fellow *New Girl* alum Damon Wayans Jr. recently had a lengthy shoot for their upcoming comedy series, inspired by *The Cable Guy, *which reminded him how exhausting it was.

“You get so weird because you’re so overtired,” he said. “So all of a sudden, we’d be in takes again and I was doing stuff really just to make Damon laugh and he’s doing stuff to make me laugh. And I’m like, you only get here after hour 13 when you’re like, ‘I have to go home now.’”

Despite the long hours, the cast has frequently gushed about their experience on the sitcom. In fact, star Max Greenfield has teased the possibility of a revival, saying that creator Meriwether has written new scripts.

“I’m not gonna play the game,” Greenfield said on the *Today* show in July. “As far as I know, it’s happening.”
