Robin Wright revealed that she thought Derek Hough and his sister Julianne Hough were married
She made the admission while speaking with Derek on the 2026 Golden Globe Awards red carpet on Sunday, Jan. 11
In response, the Extra host reassured Wright, "I've got that sometimes"
Robin Wright made a surprising admission to Derek Hough at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards.
Derek, 40, was working the red carpet for Extra when the House of Cards actress, 59, approached him and said, "Wait, you're the brother of Julianne. I love her!"
"Can I tell you something?" Wright then asked. "When I first saw her dance, I was like, 'They're married.' "
"Oh, yeah! Yeah, I've got that sometimes," Derek responded with a laugh.
"No, they're brother and sister," Wright recalled of clarifying her initial confusion over the siblings' relationship.
"You guys are amazing together. I follow you guys on Instagram and watch you guys move," she added, referring to the pair's joint dance videos.

Last year, Julianne, 37, spoke about fans sometimes mistakenly thinking she and her brother are husband and wife, recalling an incident that helped spark the confusion. During a Sept. 5 appearance on the Chicks in the Office podcast, she shared that the siblings were performing in a live tour for Dancing with the Stars — before they joined the ABC competition show — and judge Carrie Ann Inaba had choreographed a rumba for them.

"That is the dance of love, right? That my brother and I had to dance together," Julianne said. "And our names in the program were Derek and Julianne Hough. So everybody thought we were married, and we were doing this rumba.

"When people found out we were brother and sister, I remember, specifically, there was one venue [on the tour] where we were dancing, and we just heard [from the audience], 'That just wrong!' " she continued, laughing at the memory. "So that was our first foray. And Carrie Ann, to this day, is like, 'I'm sorry I made you guys dance the rumba.' "
Derek previously shared how his close sibling bond with Julianne has translated to a natural and effortless working dynamic. The two have gone out on numerous dancing tours together and shared the stage on DWTS over the years.
"We actually work pretty well together," Derek told Good Morning America in 2016 about his professional relationship with his sister. "We kind of have like this hidden language where we don't really talk … it's actually great. We're very privileged, we feel very lucky to do something that you love with somebody that you love and care about. It's a wonderful thing."
Julianne echoed Derek's comments in an interview with The Insider, saying, "We just have this secret hidden language where we can just naturally dance together. We don't even have to talk about it when we choreograph. We just go and do it."
