Oliver Stark doesn't have to worry about breaking his New Year's resolutions — because he doesn't make any.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the 9-1-1 star, 34, shared why he "intentionally" doesn't set any resolutions come Jan. 1.
"I am not a New Year's resolution person — and very intentionally — not because I don't think I [will] stick to it. I just tend to think that if there's something I would like to change, I can do that on any random Tuesday," he explains.
"Who knows — maybe this is naive of me to say, but I think I'm pretty self-aware and make little adjustments in my life throughout the year," Stark adds. "Maybe I should be. Maybe I'm missing a trick here, and I should set myself some big goal as Jan. 1 rolls around."
The London-born actor has starred as firefighter Evan "Buck" Buckley in 9-1-1 since the series' premiere in January 2018. The Ryan Murphy-created show — which follows the high-pressure professional and personal lives of Los Angeles first responders — just aired its season 9 midseason premiere on Thursday, Jan. 8.

During his conversation with PEOPLE, Stark also opened up about the show's dramatic action scenes — and the "feeling of achievement" that comes with nailing a difficult stunt sequence.
"I really enjoy that aspect of the show," he says of shooting action scenes. "And something I discovered quite recently is that it's fun to remind yourself that you're not all that fragile. You can take a little hit here and there, and you can put yourself in these situations. And obviously, I say that knowing that we're put in these situations in the most safe circumstances."

"But it's fun to go through it a little bit. It's fun when my body aches at the end of the day, and I say, 'Wow, that was a really hard one,' " Stark continues. "And there's a nice feeling of achievement that comes with that. So yeah — and I do speak for the whole cast — we all really love getting amongst it and getting our hands dirty and putting ourselves there as much as they'll let us and as much as is feasibly safe."
Last year, as he marked Bi Visibility Day on his Instagram Stories on Sept. 23, Stark told fans that "one of my biggest joys of playing Buck" on 9-1-1 has been "getting to tell the story of him discovering his bisexuality."
After years of only dating women, Buck had his first romantic moment with a man in season 7 when he kissed Tommy (played by Lou Ferrigno Jr.) during the show's 100th episode.
"I hope, truly, that we have offered up some kind of positive representation," Stark said in his Bi Visibility Day message. "I'm really super proud of getting to be a part of this storyline."
Looking ahead to the show's ninth season at the time, Stark said he was keen to "hammer home" the storyline more.
"I'm excited to delve deeper and deeper into it," he added. "It's just such an honor to get to be a part of telling this story, so thank you, guys."
New episodes of 9-1-1 air Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, and stream the next day on Hulu and Disney+.
