Robert F. Kennedy's Missing Granddaughter and Son 'Have Passed Away', Heartbroken Husband Confirms

The rescue seek for Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean and her son Gideon has been suspended with the pair tragically presumed lifeless.

Maeve’s husband, David McKean, shared the news on Facebook Friday, someday after his wife and son went missing in a canoe accident in Maryland.

“Regardless of heroic efforts by the Coast Guard and lots of state and native authorities, the choice has now been made to droop the lively rescue effort,” David wrote in a prolonged and emotional Fb publish.

“We have been self-quarantining in an empty home owned by Maeve’s mother Kathleen on the Chesapeake Bay, hoping to offer our youngsters more room than we have now at residence in DC to run round,” David defined. “Gideon and Maeve have been enjoying kickball by the small, shallow cove behind the home, and one in every of them kicked the ball into the water.”

David went on to provide heartfelt tributes of each his spouse and son.

Of 8-year-old Gideon, David stated he was a “deeply compassionate” boy and “extremely social, athletic, and brave.”

David referred to as Maeve his “every part.”

“She was my greatest pal and my soulmate,” he wrote. “I am terrified by the concept this can fade over time. You may hear Maeve’s snort a block away—and she or he laughed lots. She was magical—with countless power that she would put toward inventing video games for our youngsters, taking over another challenge at work or in our group, and spending time with our associates.”

David and Maeve shared two more youngsters, Gabriella, 7, and Toby, 2 1/2.

“Gabriella is heartbroken, however she amazes me together with her maturity and beauty,” David stated of the daughter Maeve left behind, adding of Toby, “he’s still his typical magical and goofy self. I do know quickly he'll start to ask for Maeve and Gideon. It breaks my heart that he won't get to have them as a mother and brother.”

In a press release to PEOPLE, Maeve’s mother Kathleen Kennedy Townsend to PEOPLE confirmed that “the seek for my beloved daughter Maeve and grandson Gideon has turned from rescue to recovery.”

Her husband, David, and their youngsters, Gideon, Gabriella, and Toby, have been the good joys of her life. The position she treasured most was mom.”

Gideon, Kathleen stated, was identical to his mom — “a star athlete who beloved soccer, golf, and operating.”

“He took after his mother and father in probably the most extraordinary methods. He liked riddles, math, chess, and adventures. He beloved to invent new games together with his mother and share them with us all.”

Maeve is considered one of slain Sen. Robert F. Kennedy’s granddaughters and a great-niece of former President John F. Kennedy. Kathleen mirrored on her father RFK’s dying at this unhappy time.

“When my uncle Ted eulogized my father, he provided a prayer that what daddy was to his household, and what he wished for others, would sometime come to move for all the world. This is our prayer for Maeve and Gideon,” she added.

“Our hearts are crushed, yet we will try to summon the grace of God and what power we've to honor the hope, power and keenness that Maeve and Gideon set forth into the world. My household thanks all for the outpouring of love and prayers as we grieve and try to bear this devastating loss.”

In a statement Friday, the Coast Guard stated that it was a “troublesome” determination to suspend its lively search, which coated a “combined complete of 3658 sq. miles over air, sea, and land over a interval of 26 hours.”
