Body of Robert F. Kennedy's Granddaughter Found 4 Days After She Went Missing with Son in Canoe Accident
Four days after going missing in a canoe accident, the body of Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean — Robert F. Kennedy‘s granddaughter — has been found.
The search for the physique of Maeve’s younger son Gideon will resume tomorrow, authorities stated.
Maeve’s body was recovered at about 5:31 p.m. on Monday about 2.5 miles away from her mom’s waterfront property in Shady Aspect, Maryland, the Maryland Pure Assets Police stated in a press release obtained by PEOPLE. She was present in about 25 ft of water, police stated.
Maeve, 40, and Gideon, eight, went missing on Thursday, April 2, at the Shady Aspect property, Maeve’s husband David McKean informed The Washington Publish at the time. David informed the outlet that the mother-son pair had “popped into a canoe” with a view to retrieve a ball that had fallen into the water.
“They only obtained farther out than they might handle and couldn’t get back in,” David informed the outlet.
Authorities stated on the time that their boat — which was retrieved Thursday with no sign of both Maeve or Gideon — appeared to have been “overtaken by the robust winds” that day.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan confirmed the disappearance of Maeve and Gideon throughout a press briefing on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on Friday afternoon, saying that “an intensive search” had been underway since late Thursday.

The preliminary investigation “revealed that the pair might have been paddling the canoe from a residence … out into the bay to retrieve a ball and have been unable to paddle back to shore,” Maryland’s Department of Pure Assets police stated in a earlier assertion.
On Friday, David wrote in an emotional Fb publish that “it's clear that Maeve and Gideon have passed away.”
In a heartfelt tribute to every, the mourning father stated that Gideon was a “deeply compassionate” boy and “extremely social, athletic, and brave.”
He referred to as Maeve his “every little thing,” adding, “she was my greatest good friend and my soulmate.”
“I'm terrified by the concept this can fade over time,” wrote David. “You can hear Maeve’s chuckle a block away—and she or he laughed quite a bit. She was magical—with countless power that she would put towards inventing video games for our youngsters, taking over another undertaking at work or in our group, and spending time with our buddies.”
David and Maeve shared two more youngsters, Gabriella, 7, and Toby, 2 1/2.
Maeve is the daughter of Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, who was Maryland’s lieutenant governor from 1995 to 2003. She is certainly one of slain Sen. RFK’s granddaughters and a great-niece of former President John F. Kennedy.
