Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend is a film that shows Mai Sakurajima as she disappears from everyone's sight. Sakuta Azusagawa witnesses this event, and life goes on without concern for everyone else. This disappearance is connected to a search for singer Tōko Kirishima. Two anime and three movies lead to this.
The film premieres on October 16, 2026. Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend is the final installment. It is produced by CloverWorks and distributed by Aniplex. The film will adapt the last volume of the light novel series.

Aniplex confirmed the October 16 date on March 29, 2026. The reveal came at its AnimeJapan 2026 stage event, alongside a teaser trailer. The studio had first teased a 2026 finale in September 2025.
Theatres set their own schedules, so please check local shows. The cast screening of the movie took place in Shinjuku Wald 9 on October 4. The first four minutes of the movie went online the same day.
Fans in Japan watching the movie in its first week get a new short story by Kamoshida titled Rascal Does Dream of a Tea Garden. It tells the story of Sakuta, Mai, and Shōko after shopping. The story is illustrated by Keiji Mizoguchi.
Where to watch Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend
For now, the movie is a Japanese cinema release. There is still no announcement about which streaming service will present Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend. Aniplex of America has the rights to distribute the show in the West.
Crunchyroll distributes the earlier parts, including the Santa Claus TV anime series that was dubbed into English. The movie The Dreaming Girl has been available on the platform since June 2025, with subtitles and dubbing.

The movie concludes the plot and is named after the 15th volume. Briefly, Tōko Kirishima is a popular internet singer, and Mai Sakurajima is the actress. Sakuta then senses a gap between what he sees and what the world is turning into.
The music here is notable. Tōko Kirishima shares the theme song “Suihei-sen wa Boku no Furukizu finale,” i.e., “The Horizon Is My Old Wound: Finale.” In the animated piece, she also performs the song “Turn the World Upside Down.” The second trailer, released on August 30, confirmed that she performed the theme song.

Story so far
Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend is a sequel to Bunny Girl Senpai, which first aired in October 2018. It has a total of 13 episodes. The first series adapted the story up to Volume 5.
In June 2019, the film The Dreaming Girl was released. It adapted Volumes 6 and 7. This movie became available to stream on Crunchyroll in June 2025. The film Sister Venturing Out was released in June 2023, and Knapsack Kid came out in December in Japan.
Each started in fourth place at the box office in its opening weekend. In the first three days, each movie attracted almost 120,000 admissions.
The Santa Claus anime series first aired in July 2025 and covered the university student part. There are 3 million copies of the series in print. The last volume came out in English on January 6. Finally, on October 16, the waiting period for Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend came to an end in Japan.
