Rumer Willis shared how “grateful” she is to get to spend so much time with her dad Bruce Willis amid his journey with frontotemporal dementia
During their time together, she said she's noticed a “tenderness that maybe being, you know, Bruce Willis might not have allowed him in a certain way”
The Die Hard star was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2022 at the age of 67
Rumer Willis is seeing a side of her father, Bruce Willis, that she's never seen before.
While speaking to celebrity stylist Maeve Reilly during a May 18 episode of her The Inside Edit podcast, the eldest daughter of Demi Moore and the Die Hard star opened up about how “grateful” she is to get to spend so much time with her dad amid his journey with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
“I love getting to go over and see him,” Rumer, 37, said. “I'm so grateful that I have a child that got to meet him because I don't know if my sisters will have that.”
Rumer shares 2-year-old daughter, Louetta Isley Thomas Willis, with ex Derek Richard Thomas.
In addition to Rumer, the Sixth Sense actor, 71, shares daughters Scout LaRue Willis, 34, and Tallulah Belle Willis, 32, with ex-wife Moore and daughters Mabel Ray Willis, 14, and Evelyn Penn Willis, 12, with wife Emma Heming Willis.
“I'm so grateful that I get to go see him even though our time together is different now,” Rumer continued. “Theres a sweetness. He's always been this, kind of, macho dude and now there's just such a — fragile's not the right word — but just, like, a tenderness that maybe being, you know, Bruce Willis might not have allowed him in a certain way.”

Rumer also went on to express how proud she's been of how her blended family has “rallied together” since Bruce received his diagnosis in March 2022.
“We don't do it perfectly but we're always striving to continue to create connection and find ways to be with each other and support each other through something that is kind of unprecedented,” she said.

While Rumer shared that her dad has been doing “okay in the context of what his reality is,” she previously explained why it's incredibly difficult to answer people when they ask about how he's “doing.”
“People always ask me this question and I think it's kind of a hard one to answer because the truth is that anybody with FTD is not doing great,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories last November. “But he's doing okay in terms of somebody who's dealing with frontotemporal dementia, you know what I mean?”
Although the normal “parameters” of how a person's wellbeing is doesn't “really work anymore” in her mind, Rumer went on to emphasize that her dad can still “feel the love I've given him and I can feel it back from him.”
“[I'm so happy] that I still see a spark of him and he can feel the love that I'm giving and so that feels really nice,” she wrote. “Yeah, I just feel grateful that I get to go over there with Louetta, and we get to spend time with him and I get to feel the love that he has for me and that he puts out for me and that I can love him and be with him.”
