Don't put any money on those rumors you heard about Jessica Simpson's allegedly over-the-top beauty routine being true.

In a new interview with Elle published on April 2, the singer and actress, 45, was asked about a report that revealed she spent $1 million annually on her beauty routine, which included a $1,000 weekly stipend just for her tanning habits. That part of the speculation — which also alleged Simpson paid $50,000 to enhance her breasts and a whopping $230,000 a year for her on-call hair team— she said, was never accurate.

"No, $1,000? Gosh. I'd rather have lain out in the sun," she told Elle.

The All's Fair actress thought through a different scenario, like a vacation with tanning involved, that would justify the extravagant spending habit. She then recalled the lengths she went to to keep her Daisy Duke glow while filming The Dukes of Hazzard.

"I had to be tan and that was a four-month shoot where I was damn near naked the whole time. The only way to be confident then when shooting was to spray it, and do body makeup. But I also didn't want it to be too orange, so I had to have a base tan. It was all thought out."

Simpson might not have been overly concerned about her cosmetic-related expenses, but she was keeping a close eye on other numbers.

"I used to be the type of person that would put an SPF 15 on my stomach, but I would put an SPF 50 on my knees because I didn't want them to wrinkle. I would do that math in my head," she said.

Simpson still loves a sun-kissed look, but prefers to achieve one in a much more balanced way.

"I am somebody who likes to lay around and hang out with my friends and we flip like rotisserie chicken, just kidding. But for the most part, now we all take turns spraying each other down. I've never been that person who is terrified to be out in the sun because of wrinkles. It just happens and is a part of life."

In a March 30 exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Simpson, who stars in the new Kiehl's Better Screen Miner-All UV Serum campaign, opened up about the skincare tips she's introducing to her three kids, who she shares with her estranged husband Eric Johnson.

"I mean, they just know if they're putting their bathing suit on, they need to spray down or lotion up first," she says.

"Maxwell, my oldest, who will be 14 in May, she teaches me. And so I'll ask her what Korean skin care products people are using, and we'll go in on this together. I will say Instagram and TikTok have been good for that. I didn't even know what eye cream was until I was in the business," she said.
