Wuthering Heights, premiering in theaters on Feb. 13, is an adaptation of Emily Brontë's 1847 novel

The movie sees Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi give a modern take on a centuries-old tragic love story

The pair have been open about how their on-screen chemistry came "naturally"

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi haven't shied away from their chemistry — both on-screen in Wuthering Heights and off.

Based on Emily Brontë's 1847 novel, the steamy adaptation stars Robbie and Elordi as childhood friends Catherine and Heathcliff, respectively, whose differing social statuses threaten the romantic feelings they eventually realize they have for each other.

Ahead of the movie's Feb. 13 premiere, the stars shared many sweet moments on the press tour, from Elordi shielding Robbie from the rain to protect her red carpet look to gushing about each other in interviews.

While the Australian actors portray one of literature's most well-known stories, off-screen, Robbie has been married to husband Tom Ackerley since 2016 and Elordi has been linked to on-off girlfriend Olivia Jade Giannulli.

Here's everything Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi have said about their Wuthering Heights chemistry.

Robbie said she and Elordi became "codependent" while filming

In a January 2026 interview with Fandango, Robbie opened up about collaborating with Elordi and said they became "codependent" while filming Wuthering Heights.

"I'm so codependent with people I work with and I love everyone so much and I'm always that person who's so devastated when a job's over and I never want it to end," she said. "I think I developed that quite quickly with Jacob too."

The Oscar nominee went on to recall how he would "just be always in the vicinity where I was" during the first few days on set, much like the lurking Heathcliff.

Director Emerald Fennell noted that she "didn't tell him to do that," adding, "I actually had to ask him to leave."

Robbie shared that by the third day of filming, she found herself starting to "look around to see where he was" — and when he wasn't watching her nearby, she felt "really unnerved and unmoored."

"I felt quite lost, like a kid without their blanket or something," she continued.

Elordi said they have a "mutual obsession" with each other

After Robbie gushed about growing close to Elordi, he praised his costar and said they have a "mutual obsession" with each other.

"If you have the opportunity to share a film set with Margot Robbie, you're going to make sure you're within 5 to 10 meters at all times, watching how she drinks tea, how she eats her food," he said. "She's just like an elite actor."

Elordi recalled moments that felt like they were part of their characters' love "for real"

Elsewhere in the Fandango interview, the Euphoria star said there were moments when he and Robbie could feel their characters' love for each other "for real."

"There'd be a moment where we'd be running hand-in-hand through the moors, maybe not even in the scene, just setting it up, where I'd look across at her and she'd be looking at me and you really realized you are looking at Catherine and she was looking at Heathcliff," Elordi said. "And in that moment, we really were a part of their love, for real."

The actor added, "You can almost imagine that the spirit of this love that Brontë created is sort of floating around there. It really did feel like we were catching little pieces of that unrequited love."

Robbie thought Elordi is "probably a very good boyfriend" after he gave her a Valentine's Day surprise

During a January 2026 conversation with Vogue Australia, Robbie recalled a sweet surprise her costar planned for her on Valentine's Day the previous year.

"We were shooting on Valentine's Day. You made my day and, as Heathcliff, filled my room with roses," Robbie said, adding that the grand gesture Elordi orchestrated also included a note written from Heathcliff's perspective and a "little tombstone thing," both of which were symbolic of the film.

Although Robbie didn't do anything special for him for the romantic holiday, Elordi's feelings weren't hurt as he said he felt like he "beat" her.

"You definitely beat me. Yours was so epic," the Barbie actress responded. "I remember thinking on Valentine's Day, oh he's probably a very good boyfriend, 'cause there's a lot of thoughtfulness in this. You did a lot of very thoughtful things."

While it wasn't necessarily for Valentine's Day, Elordi did later receive a gift from Robbie: a matching ring.

Cece Jewellery's Cece Fein-Hughes told British Vogue in January 2026 that the custom pieces are meant to symbolize the relationship between their on-screen characters.

According to the outlet, the chunky gold rings feature two hand-enamelled skulls locked in an embrace and surrounded by thorns, "to symbolize both bittersweet love and the harshness of nature."

Robbie said their on-screen chemistry came "naturally"

Robbie told the in January 2026 that her and Elordi's on-screen chemistry came "pretty naturally" and was "pretty easy."

She said the director "creates an environment where you can do your best work and you can feel really comfortable."

"We really were kind of set up for success in that way," the actress continued. "We had the incredible script, we had an incredible set, we had incredible people we were working with, and then it's just an added bonus that we get along in real life anyway, and so doing this was a joy. It was really fun."
