Tulsi Gabbard snags her first delegate in American Samoa

Tulsi Gabbard, the Democratic presidential candidate who pushed on to Tremendous Tuesday regardless of little voter help in earlier contests and major polls, snagged her first delegate on Tuesday in American Samoa, in line with The Related Press.

Gabbard, who represents Hawaii in Congress, has did not qualify for the previous few debates. However she has trudged alongside in the race despite receiving zero votes in Iowa and a low proportion in the other early states. While many have begun to ignore her as a candidate altogether, Gabbard held on longer than prime contenders like Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar, who dropped out after South Carolina’s main on Saturday.

Regardless of being born in American Samoa, Gabbard did not capture the endorsement of Samoan Chief Fa’alagiga Nina Tua’au-Glaude — a key indicator of success within the U.S. territory. The prized endorsement as an alternative went to Mike Bloomberg, upping his probabilities of capturing a majority of the six delegates up for grabs there.

This seemed to be true on Tuesday as polls have been set to close within the territory, with Bloomberg projected to win American Samoa and Gabbard projected to put second.

Whereas Gabbard has pitched herself to voters in American Samoa, Bloomberg used his assets as he did across the U.S., airing tv and radio advertisements in the territory. The former New York mayor also employed seven full-time employees members there.

The Bloomberg campaign tweeted about its success within the territory shortly after the results rolled in, posting, “Thank you, American Samoa!”
