Former President Barack Obama joined so many others this week in shock over the death of retired NBA player Kobe Bryant, who was killed Sunday morning along with his daughter Gianna in a helicopter crash in the Los Angeles area.
“Kobe was a legend on the courtroom and just getting began in what would have been just as meaningful a second act,” Obama, 58, tweeted later Sunday. “To lose Gianna is even more heartbreaking to us as mother and father.”
“Michelle and I ship love and prayers to Vanessa and all the Bryant household on an unthinkable day,” Obama continued.
Bryant was 41. Daughter Gianna, who went by “Gigi,” was 13. They have been reportedly on the way to a youth basketball recreation.
Obama’s relationship with Bryant dates again years. Bryant visited Obama (a famous basketball fan) repeatedly within the White Home, including in 2015 as Bryant ready to retire from the L.A. Lakers.

And in 2016, President Obama ended his last appearance at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner with a reference to how Bryant had just lately concluded his final recreation with the Lakers.
