
The Democratic presidential debate in December has been moved to Loyola Marymount College, after controversy over a labor struggle upended plans to host the prime-time event at the College of California, Los Angeles.
POLITICO and PBS NewsHour, the sponsors of the Dec. 19 debate, announced the change after the Democratic National Committee stated Wednesday that UCLA would no longer serve because the venue because of an ongoing dispute between the varsity and its largest employee union.
As an alternative, candidates will assemble within the almost 21,000-square-foot Gersten Pavilion area on LMU’s campus, which will accommodate seating for up to 2,000 spectators.
Six Democratic White House contenders have up to now qualified to seem on stage: Vice President Joe Biden; Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Kamala Harris of California, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota; and Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind.
To participate, candidates should both receive no less than four % help in 4 qualifying polls of main voters nationally or in early-voting states (Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada or South Carolina); or they need to receive no less than 6 % help in two qualifying early-state polls.
Candidates should also amass donations from at the least 200,000 unique donors, with a minimum of 800 donors in 20 states, territories or Washington, D.C.
The December debate will be the sixth such televised forum of the primary cycle, and can comply with a debate within the Atlanta area on Nov. 20 co-hosted by MSNBC and The Washington Submit. Ten candidates have thus far qualified for that debate.
