French actor Pierre Deny, who appeared on the Netflix series "Emily in Paris," has died, according to reports. He was 69.

Deny, who played Louis de Léon on the romantic comedy series starring Lily Collins, died on Monday, May 25, following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as ALS), the actor's daughters told French news agency AFP, according to TF1 and Le Parisien.

"It is with deep emotion that we announce the death of Pierre Deny on Monday following a rapid ALS," Deny's children said in a statement translated from French, per the outlets.

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Netflix for comment.

ALS, commonly called Lou Gehrig's disease, is a rare degenerative condition that can impact the brain and spinal cord. Other stars who've battled ALS include "Grey's Anatomy" actor Eric Dane, "SpongeBob SquarePants" creator Stephen Hillenburg, R&B icon Roberta Flack and world-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking.

According to the National Institutes of Health, the disease progressively degrades and then kills nerve cells in the affected area(s). Over time, the muscle weakening will continue to spread throughout the body, eventually causing difficulties with breathing, chewing, swallowing and speaking.

What is ALS? What to know about the rare disease

Early symptoms can include tripping, slurred or "thick" speech, difficulty swallowing, weight loss, decreased muscle tone, shortness of breath, increased or decreased reflexes and uncontrollable periods of laughing or crying, per the ALS Society of Canada.

On "Emily in Paris," Deny's character Louis de Léon was the CEO of JVMA, a European conglomerate specializing in luxury goods. He was also father of Mindy's love interest and former boarding school classmate Nicolas de Léon (Paul Forman).

A theater veteran, Deny appeared in over 100 films and television series throughout his career, including "Une Femme d'Honneur" ("A Woman of Honor"), "Tomorrow is Ours," "The Third Wave," "Times Have Been Better" and most recently, "Camping Paradise."

Deny performed in a trio of episodes on "Emily in Paris," which follows the globe-trotting adventures of aspiring marketing executive Emily Cooper. His last appearance was on the second episode of Season 4 in 2024, according to IMDb.

Netflix announced in January that the Darren Star-created show was greenlit for its sixth − and final − season. The show's production, which is still underway, will visit Greece and Monaco before returning to Paris for its farewell, the streamer shared in a May 21 press release.

"Making 'Emily in Paris' with this extraordinary cast and crew has been the trip of a lifetime," Star said in a statement. "We can't wait to share this last chapter with you. Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives, inspiring your dreams of travel and your love of Paris. We will always have 'Emily in Paris!'"

Carmen Electra is opening up about why her relationship with Dennis Rodman ultimately did not last.

In a Tuesday, May 26 appearance on the Legally Goff podcast, Electra, 54, described her relationship with the former NBA player as "difficult," adding that the two were "crazy in love."

The two met in 1998, married that November and, as PEOPLE reported, filed annulment papers nine days later.

The couple later reconciled, although they eventually divorced in the spring of 1999.

Rodman, she added, "was always like the pied piper of the party."

"You know, everyone followed Dennis," she said.

Electra added: "We had a lot of fun together. That was my favorite part of being around Dennis. But, you know, we only get to see the part of Dennis that the the media lets us see, right?"

Electra added that Rodman was sensitive and also "so loving, and then he's wild and he's drinking." The relationship ultimately ended, she said, because "it was just too hard to continue to keep up with him and his friends."

"I mean, it was constant drinking. And I just remember looking at myself in the mirror. I was at home and I didn't recognize myself. I had bags under my eyes. My face was puffy. And I'm in my 20s, you know, and I thought like, it's got to stop. It has to stop," she said.

She continued: "And a friend gave me a really good book and it was like a self-help book and I started reading the book and I liked it. So I went to the store ... and I'd grab another book and I'd start sitting there and I just thought, 'I got to get away from him because what good is going to come out of this,' you know?"

"I mean, it was real love," Electra added. "It wasn't a made-up story. It wasn't a publicity stunt. It was real love. And you know, it's sad, but it had to end."

Electra went on to marry guitarist Dave Navarro in 2003 and the two announced their separation in 2006, finalizing their divorce in 2007. Their relationship was documented on the reality show Till Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave, which aired on MTV for one season in 2004.

Donald Trump confirms he's planning to attend Knicks NBA Finals game

United States President Donald Trump indicated he's planning to attend the 2026 NBA Finals as an invited guest of New York Knicks owner Jim Dolan and others.

Trump made the comments while speaking with reporters during a cabinet meeting at the White House on Wednesday, May 27 and confirmed he had plans to be in attendance at Madison Square Garden for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals until the Knicks closed out the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4.

"I think I'll be going to one of the games," Trump said when asked if he would be going to the NBA Finals. "I was invited by numerous people and Jim and I think I'll be going."

Trump would be the first sitting United States President to attend an NBA Finals game. The Knicks are making their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999 this year. They are slated to host Game 3 on June 8 and Game 4 on June 10 at Madison Square Garden.

Trump has frequented major sporting events during his second term as President, with appearances at the Super Bowl, college football national championship game, Ryder Cup, Daytona 500 and numerous UFC events. Last year, he also attended the U.S. Open men's tennis final in New York.

He most recently went to PGA Tour and LIV Golf events held on golf courses he owns earlier this month.

The New York-based International Rescue Committee (IRC) aid organization warned on Tuesday that the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and neighboring Uganda is now spreading faster than responders can contain it and risks becoming "the deadliest on record" without urgent international action.

What is especially alarming, the IRC said, is that the outbreak is no longer limited to remote areas of the DRC's northeastern province of Ituri, the epicenter of the current outbreak.

Cases and contacts are now spreading into larger regional hubs, the IRC warned, including the major city of Goma in the DRC's eastern province of North Kivu and also Uganda's capital, Kampala, with fears of much wider transmission.

Ebola outbreak in DRC, Uganda 'will get worse before it gets better': WHO chief

Additionally, many healthcare workers do not have access to personal protective equipment – such as coveralls, gloves and respirators – and have consequently fallen ill, according to the IRC.

"The outbreak is spreading faster than the response, with over 900 suspected cases and at least 223 deaths already reported across DRC and Uganda, including in major transport hubs like Goma and Kampala," the IRC wrote.

The IRC further said that standard Ebola tests "struggle" to detect the strain of Ebola responsible for this outbreak, the Bundibugyo strain, a rare variant which may have led to the virus spreading undetected for weeks or months

Case fatality rates for previous Bundibugyo outbreaks have ranged from 30% to 50%, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Additionally, there are no approved vaccines or treatments for the Bundibugyo strain compared to other strains responsible for past outbreaks, according to the organization.

"Every delay has a human cost. Eastern DRC's years of conflict and displacement have left health systems on their knees, and that makes containing this outbreak all the harder," Heather Kerr, IRC Democratic Republic of the Congo country director, said in the alert.

The IRC said conflict, mass displacement and deep international aid cuts have left health systems far weaker than during the massive 2018-2020 Ebola outbreak in the eastern DRC, which the WHO said killed at least 2,299 people.

The last time the IRC issued a warning of this scale about Ebola was during the 2018-2020 outbreak, when the organization repeatedly warned that violence, mistrust and weak health systems could allow the virus to spiral into a regional catastrophe.

"The warning signs are flashing red," Bob Kitchen, vice president of emergencies for the IRC, said in Tuesday's alert. "Increased conflict and cuts to global aid funding have dismantled defenses at exactly the wrong moment. The lesson from every previous outbreak is clear: delays cost lives. The risks are growing and the resources are shrinking; that is the brutal arithmetic facing global aid today.”

As Ebola outbreak spreads in DRC and Uganda, what is risk to US?

The IRC is calling for an emergency international funding surge, the appointment of a United Nations emergency coordinator, faster import approvals for medical supplies and equipment, stronger community outreach to rebuild trust, special protection for women and girls – who reportedly make up around two-thirds of suspected cases – and long-term investment in fragile health systems already damaged by war and insecurity.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that the deadliest Ebola outbreak on record occurred between 2014 and 2016 in West Africa, with more than 28,600 cases reported. The WHO said that outbreak killed at least 11,325 people by June 2016.

WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said during a Monday briefing that the current Ebola outbreak "will get worse before it gets better."

"We are facing an extremely serious and difficult outbreak. It will get worse before it gets better," Tedros said on Monday. "But we know this virus, and we know how to stop it. We have stopped every previous Ebola outbreak, and we will stop this one, too."

Ghebreyesus said he wanted to echo comments made by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa about overcoming the outbreak with unity.

"The question is just how quickly we can do it, and how many more lives will be lost before we do," Ghebreyesus added.

Last week, Tedros classified the Ebola outbreak as a public health emergency of international concern -- one level below a pandemic in the United Nations agency's alert system.

The WHO continues to consider the national risk assessment as "very high" while the regional level risk remains "high" and the global risk level remains "low," Ghebreyesus said on Monday.

The outbreak has led to multiple countries, including the U.S., India, the U.K. and Australia, putting travel restrictions in place.

Why travel restrictions may have unintended consequences as US bars some visitors amid Ebola outbreak

Entry to the U.S. is restricted for foreign travelers who have recently been in the DRC, Uganda and South Sudan.

Meanwhile, U.S. passport holders and U.S. nationals returning to the U.S. from the three countries will be funneled to Dulles Airport in Virginia to be screened for symptoms and interviewed about possible exposure.

Enhanced screening efforts also began at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as of Saturday morning. Efforts at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston will begin late Tuesday.

Lawful permanent residents – green card holders – who have been in any of the three countries in question over the last 21 days are temporarily barred from entering the U.S.

There's been some confusion as to how Gibson can have enough material to make not just one, but two sequels to *The Passion of the Christ*. But according to the Bible, Jesus remained on Earth for 40 days after his resurrection, and Gibson says there is an additional story to be told about the three days between his crucifixion and return.

"In order to tell the story properly you have to start with the fall of the angels. You’re in another realm. You need to go Hell. You need to go to Sheol," Gibson explained to Joe Rogan in 2025, using the Hebrew word for the underworld. Gibson also confirmed that *Resurrection* will include a depiction of Satan, portrayed in *The Passion of the Christ* by Rosalinda Celentano.

Multiple Christian traditions describe the three days after the crucifixion as "The Harrowing of Hell," during which Jesus descended into the underworld and, according to some doctrines, saved the souls that had been held there since the beginning of time. It's pretty ambitious to attempt to depict these more fantastical narrative elements, even in the faith-based genre landscape, which typically sticks to playing the hits.

In an official statement, Gibson said of the two-part sequel, "This film represents a major part of my life’s work, and it has demanded everything of me as a filmmaker and as an artist. This is far more than a film to me. It’s a mission I’ve carried for over twenty years to tell what I believe is the most important story in human history."

Caviezel was set to reprise his role as Jesus in *The Resurrection of the Christ* as recently as April 2025, when he said on a podcast that production would employ de-aging technology similar to what Martin Scorsese used in *The Irishman* (2019) to make it appear as though Jesus had only aged three days instead of 10 years. “I’m not going to play Jesus. I need Him to play me," he said. "That’s the only way this thing is going to work.”

Just six months later, in October 2025, it was revealed that Caviezel and many of his original co-stars had been replaced in the sequel because the de-aging process would be too costly.

Replacing Caviezel is Jaakko Ohtonen, a Finnish actor best known for his role in the British Netflix series *The Last Kingdom*. Lionsgate revealed the first official photo of Ohtonen as Jesus in *The Resurrection of the Christ* on May 21. "I’m deeply grateful to my incredibly talented cast and crew for pouring their hearts into this production," Gibson said in his statement. "Together, we created something powerful."

In addition to Ohtonen, *The Resurrection of the Christ* features an all-new cast that includes Mariela Garriga as Mary Magdalene, replacing previous star Monica Bellucci. Garriga previously appeared in *Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning* (2023).

Polish-Italian actress Kasia Smutniak is portraying Mary, Jesus' mother, replacing Maia Morgenstern. *John Wick: Chapter 2 *(2017)* *actor Riccardo Scamarcio is playing Pontius Pilate, replacing Hristo Shopov. Peter is played by Italian actor Pier Luigi Pasino, replacing Francesco De Vito. Gabriele Rollo is playing John, replacing Christo Jivkov, who passed away in 2023.

Additional cast members include Lorenzo James Henrie (*Fear the Walking Dead*), Lorenzo Richelmy (Netflix's *Marco Polo*), Vincenzo Nemolato (*La chimera*), and Rupert Everett (*My Best Friend's Wedding*). Per *Variety*, Everett is playing an "unspecified small but important role" in the sequels.

As of this writing, a trailer has yet to be released for *The Resurrection of the Christ*. We'll update this piece when there is one.

Along with the first official image, Lionsgate revealed some disappointing news for fans eager to see Gibson's sequels: *The Resurrection of the Christ* will release a little later than planned.

Both parts were initially set to release 40 days apart, in March and May 2027. Now, *Part One* will hit theaters on May 6, 2027, followed by *Part Two* on May 25, 2028.

In addition to her icon status, the "Walk On By" singer has gained nearly 600,000 followers on X, formerly Twitter, due to her witty commentary.

Fans took to the comments to react to Warwick's post about "Emily in Paris."

"You stay on her neck Auntie," one person wrote. Another added: "Why when I saw the news earlier @dionnewarwick was the first person I thought about!?"

"Auntie you gotta put ya phone down," a third person joked. A user laughed at the post, telling Warwick, "You are truly my favorite person on this god-forsaken internet."

According to Complex, Warwick has taken lighthearted jabs and has been open with her criticism of "Emily in Paris" throughout the years. For instance, in 2025, she told her followers she was going to undergo surgery and needed something to watch.

However, the legend was clear about what she didn't want to tune in to.

"As most of you may know, I’ve had to cancel a few shows due to emergency leg surgery," Warwick posted at the time. "I’m doing okay, do not worry! However, I need some show/movie recommendations while on the mend. Not Emily in Paris. Love you all."

She doubled down in the replies, "I have no interest and her work visa has definitely expired by now…"
