Actor Bud Cort, known for his work in the 1971 movie classic Harold and Maude, has died. He was 77 years old.

Cort died Feb. 11 in Connecticut after a lengthy illness, multiple outlets reported on Wednesday.

Born Walter Edward Cox in 1948 in New Rochelle, New York, Cort discovered a love for live performance early on. Admitted as a scenic design major rather than actor at the NYU School of the Arts, he began working in commercials, onstage and his first official screen credit, the soap opera The Doctors.

Hollywood director Robert Altman caught Cort in a theater revue, casting him in 1970 in M*A*S*H and the titular role in Brewster McCloud, which launched his screen career.

Soon afterward, Cort played Harold Chasen opposite Ruth Gordon's Maude Chardin in 1971's Hal Ashby-directed Harold and Maude, earning nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and BAFTA Awards. Although commercially unsuccessful as first, the film has since been regarded as a cult classic.

Cort went on to earn strong reviews in films including 1981's She Dances Alone, 1984's Electric Dreams, 1995's Heat, 1999's Dogma, 2000's Coyote Ugly and 2004's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. He also lent his voice to the character Toyman in DC Comics adaptations Superman: The Animated Series, Static Shock and Justice League Unlimited.

In 1972 he made his Broadway debut in Simon Gray's play Wise Child, and in 1974 co-founded the LA Classic Theatre Works with Richard Dreyfuss, Rene Auberjonois and more. At one point he lived with the late performer Groucho Marx.

In November 1984, Cort spoke to PEOPLE about the 1979 car collision on a Hollywood freeway that derailed his life and career. "I try not to look in mirrors," he said, after a fractured arm, leg and skull resulted in multiple postoperative scars.

"But I'm getting on with my life," he said at the time. "Acting is and always has been my life. I was playing Santa Claus when I was four."

Fond remembrances for Cort began appearing on social media on Wednesday. On her Facebook and Instagram accounts, Jamie Lee Curtis remembered befriending the star on an airplane amid her Trading Places publicity tour. A friend later arranged to have Cort "come and be a male stripper at my wedding shower," wrote the Oscar winner, captioning photos of the shower in question.

"He just came in and did his thing and then split. My mother [Janet Leigh] was in attendance and absolutely loved it," Curtis added. "He was a talented and interesting person, and I am glad that the universe brought us into orbit with each other for a brief time."

Cort is survived by his four siblings.

James Van Der Beek died on Feb. 11 less than two years after announcing his stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis

Van Der Beek previously opened up about how his community supported him following the cancer diagnosis in a November 2024 PEOPLE cover story

"The way friends showed up was a really beautiful experience that I never would've had otherwise," said Van Der Beek, who was previously "always the one helping everybody"

James Van Der Beek was "always the one helping everybody" until his stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis.

The late actor died at age 48 on Wednesday, Feb. 11, less than two years after sharing his cancer diagnosis with the world in November 2024. In a PEOPLE cover story shortly after announcing that he had been "privately dealing" with the disease since 2023, Van Der Beek opened up about the unexpected in the wake of his diagnosis.

"It was amazing to see how people in my life showed up — and listen, I'm never the person who ever asked for any help ever," he said through tears at the time. "I was always the one helping everybody. And I just thought that was a fine way to be until cancer, and then I had to ask for help."

And help didn't just come for the self-described "empath" and "provider" — it came in droves.

"The way friends showed up was a really beautiful experience that I never would've had otherwise," the Dawson's Creek alum told PEOPLE. "To see just how much people cared about me and were willing to go the extra mile — again, just because I'd never really asked anyone for help."

"It just wasn't in my DNA," he added, "and now it is."

Reflecting on the lows that followed shortly after his diagnosis, which came after the cancer was discovered during a routine colonoscopy in August 2023, Van Der Beek said "telling people" was the difficult part. "Telling people required a lot of energy."

But the support that followed the "hard" task of opening up about his diagnosis didn't just mean a lot — it meant "the world," Van Der Beek told PEOPLE.

James Van Der Beek in the hospital

Courtesy James Van Der Beek

Before his cancer diagnosis, the actor said, "Whenever anybody would come to me with a diagnosis or a tragedy, I always felt it was so inadequate to say, 'Well, I'm praying for you. You're in my thoughts and my condolences. How can I support?' "

"I always just felt like that wasn't enough. But having been in this position, it's absolutely enough," Van Der Beek continued. "You're not looking to anybody to solve it for you. You're not looking to anybody to help you bypass the pain because you're going to go through that anyway. But when people offer words of support and just tell me they're thinking about me or tell me they're praying for me, it means the world."

"It really is enough," he told PEOPLE. "So for anybody out there who's feeling inadequate, when they just say, 'I'm so sorry,' and they don't have words, that's okay. I don't expect anybody to have the words to make this okay."

The actor then specifically shouted out to his loved ones who "were able to sit with my pain and sit with my discomfort and not immediately try to solve it or rationalize it, but to just accept it and be there with me."

"That's been the biggest help," he added.

Van Der Beek's wife, Kimberly, announced the news of his death on Instagram on Feb. 11.

"Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning," she wrote. "He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend."

The actor is survived by Kimberly and their six children: daughters Olivia, 15, Annabel, 12, Emilia, 9½, and Gwendolyn, 7, and sons Joshua, 13, and Jeremiah, 4.

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter may be keeping a low profile lately, but she made sure to wish her best friend, singer Kelly Rowland, a happy birthday — by calling their bond "relationship goals."

The "Cowboy Carter" creator posted on Instagram on Feb. 11 — Rowland's 45th birthday — to mark the occasion. In the post, Beyoncé wrote "#RelationshipGoals Happy Birthday Kelly," sharing throwback photos of herself with Rowland and other family members.

The caption also nods to Rowland's recent project, the newly released film "Relationship Goals," in which she stars alongside rapper Clifford "Method Man" Smith.

The "Motivation" singer responded to the post commenting, "I wuv you my BB."

Of course, the former Destiny's Child bandmates and longtime friends have shared a close bond since their adolescent years.

They've consistently supported each other throughout their careers with Beyoncé recently showing up to support Rowland's "The Boy Is Mine" tour performances and Rowland joining Beyoncé on her "Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin' Circuit" tour.

Kelly Rowland, left, Beyonce, center, and Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child perform during the halftime show in Super Bowl XLVII between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Destiny's Child reunited with Beyoncé, joining her onstage for a high‑energy medley performance.

Others also made sure to wish Rowland a happy birthday, including Tina Knowles, who shared a sweet message on Instagram.

She wrote, "Happy birthday to my beautiful (inside and out) daughter hoping that your birthday is the most glorious one ever. Love you Ma."

Rowland shared an Instagram post of her own to commemorate the special day. She wrote, "This is 45."

Singers Kelly Rowland and Beyonce walk onto the stage at a campaign rally for Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris on Oct. 25, 2024, in Houston, Texas. Harris held a rally supporting reproductive rights with recording artists Beyonce and Willie Nelson.

Prior to the post Beyoncé has been keeping quiet, especially about what she may have planned next. Rowland, however, has already given fans plenty to look forward to this year. She is set to release her first full-length album in over a decade, following her 2013 record "Talk a Good Game." She is also slated to embark on a world tour in 2026.

School Spirits season 3 premiered Jan. 28 on Paramount+

The cast includes Peyton List, who met her boyfriend, Jacob Bertrand, when they were both Disney Channel stars

Josh Zuckerman, who plays Mr. Martin, has been married to fellow Desperate Housewives alum Andrea Bowen since 2024

When they're not haunting the halls of Split River High, the cast of School Spirits spends time with their significant others.

On Jan. 28, Paramount+'s supernatural series returned for season 3, with Maddie Nears (Peyton List) and her fellow phantom friends continue to investigate multiple mysteries, and discover new secrets about the past of their high school alumni.

The cast is close, and so are their characters, with multiple ghosties, like Maddie and Wally (Milo Manheim), growing closer over the seasons.

"I wasn't expecting the amount of fans of Maddie and Wally's relationship!" List told PEOPLE in January 2025. "People that are a fan of that relationship will be really happy because there's a lot of moments between them [in season 2]. Maddie's finally able to accept the circumstances, and she's able to pay attention to this boy that's in front of her that she was ignoring for the first season."

"She's finally letting him in," added the Cobra Kai star.

Relationships are complicated in the afterlife, but in the land of the living, several members of the cast have romantic partners, including List, who met her boyfriend when they were both Disney Channel stars.

Here's everything to know about the real-life loves of School Spirits.

List stars in School Spirits as Maddie Nears, who is trapped in the afterlife.

List and her boyfriend, Jacob Bertrand, first met in 2015, when they costarred in the Disney Channel original movie, The Swap.

At the time, the two were already Disney stars, with List on the Disney Channel series Jessie, and Bertrand on the Disney XD series Kirby Buckets. The Swap premiered in 2016, and List and Bertrand would also costar together in Cobra Kai, when List joined the series in 2018.

They started off as friends, but their relationship turned romantic. In March 2022, the couple confirmed their relationship. "We've been dating for a while," Bertrand told TMZ. "I've never dated anyone I've worked with before. This is almost trial by fire."

In a November 2024 interview, List told PEOPLE that Bertrand "is the best person."

"He's such an authentic, genuine soul, and I trust him so much," she continued. "I go to him whenever I need advice."

Ventura's relationship status is unclear, but he has spoken about his character's romantic feelings, and how there may be more than just friendly feelings between Maddie and Simon.

"I think what it is right now is a person with the most brilliant mind analyzing their love. It's a little in this gray zone," he told Screen Rant in January 2024. "My answer is more theoretical and more intuitive, and it is that we all want to marry our best friend."

Kristian continued, "I just want to make sure I'm not hoping for it, and I'm just trying to understand their own love, but I think it's a twin flame."

Don't mess with Kelly Rowland.

During an appearance on ABC News' All Access with Linsey Davis on Monday, Feb. 9, the singer and actress was asked what the biggest misconception about her was — and she had a spicy answer.

"That I'm nice but I don't bite back," Rowland, 45, said.

"I will. Don't play with me or my family," she continued, adding, "My sisters, my friends. I'm gonna get you."

Rowland's comments come over a year after she got into a heated exchange on the Marcello Mio premiere red carpet in May 2024.

Speaking with the at the amfAR Cannes Gala in France that same week, Rowland explained the confrontation.

"The woman knows what happened. I know what happened," Rowland told the outlet. "I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it."

The "Motivation" singer added, "And there were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn't get scolded or pushed off or told to get off. I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand hers, but I stood my ground."

Most recently, the Destiny's Child member starred in a romantic comedy called Relationship Goals, which premiered on Prime Video on Feb. 4. In the film, Rowland stars alongside Method Man.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight while promoting the new film earlier this month, Rowland revealed a behind-the-scenes tidbit about Destiny's Child's "Survivor" that she'd never shared before.

"Funny enough, me and the girls were talking about this the other day. There's a helicopter that comes down on the water. It's getting closer and closer and closer because in the scene, we're like, 'Help us, we're lost,'" said Rowland.

Laughing, she continued, "My wig goes taking off, flying across the dirt beach!"

"I felt all this extra air and sure enough, my wig was off my head and down the beach somewhere. Somebody took that thing. It was gone," Rowland concluded.

Catherine O'Hara, the legendary actress known for "Home Alone," "Best in Show" and "Schitt's Creek," died on Jan. 30 at the age of 71, O'Hara's manager confirmed to People magazine. A cause of death was not given.A veteran in the entertainment industry, O'Hara has been one of the most lauded and respected actors of her generation, winner of two career Emmy awards, a Golden Globe and two Actor Awards (formerly Screen Actors Guild Awards). She was nominated for two Emmys at the 2025 ceremony.

Two months after Jayne Trcka was found dead in her San Diego, California, home, a cause of death has been released for the actress and fitness personality.

According to a newly released report from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office, Trcka died of "hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease." Her condition was complicated by a "left femoral fracture."

The medical examiner ruled the manner of Trcka's death on Dec. 12 at age 62 an accident.

Hypertensive heart disease is a condition in which the heart accumulates damage due to long-term, unmanaged high blood pressure (aka hypertension), according to Cleveland Clinic. If not treated, the disease can put strain on the heart by thickening the heart muscle, as well as lead to heart failure.

Jayne Trcka attends the premiere of "Scary Movie" in New York City on June 21, 2000.

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is caused by "plaque buildup in arterial walls," per the American Heart Association and includes various conditions such as myocardial infarction (heart attack), angina (chest pain), ischemic stroke and abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Meanwhile, a femoral fracture is a break in the femur, or thigh bone, and is usually the result of high-impact trauma, such as a car crash.

Aside from the primary cause of death, "chronic ethanol use" was listed as a contributing condition in Trcka's death. Ethanol, also known as grain alcohol, is the active ingredient in alcoholic beverages.

Trcka's son revealed the actress's death to TMZ in an article published Jan 5. He told the outlet that he was not aware of any previous medical conditions Trcka may have had.

According to the medical examiner, a few days before Trcka died, the actress' friend called her several times but received no response. Trcka's friend later visited her home to check on her and discovered her unresponsive in the kitchen.

Jayne Trcka goes from bodybuilder extraordinaire to dark comedy darling

Trcka grew up in Minnesota, excelling in gymnastics, according to her IMDb biography. After a brief stint in graphic communications, she moved to San Diego in the mid-1980s and took up weight training. Quickly turning from hobby to profession, Trcka placed at the top of local bodybuilding contests and continued competing at the national level for decades.

Trcka landed what would become her signature role as Miss Mann in 2000's "Scary Movie," a cult classic comedy parodying the horror genre, which spawned several sequels.

Miss Mann, the girls' gym teacher in the film, never gets a first name, but plays an integral role, delivering a pep talk that deeply disturbs main character, Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris). During the talk, Cindy catches Miss Mann sniffing women's underwear, then stuffing it back into her desk.

Trcka's success in the role led to other jobs in the industry, including a guest spot on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" and an appearance in Lady Gaga's "Telephone" music video in 2010.
