MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Mike McDaniel has run out of luster in Miami.

The Dolphins fired the dry-witted, wunderkind coach who they once viewed as the future of the franchise on Thursday, ending his four-year tenure that was defined by soaring — and unfulfilled — expectations.

McDaniel fell out of favor following a 7-10 season in which Miami missed the playoffs for a second straight year.

"After careful evaluation and extensive discussions since the season ended, I have made the decision that our organization is in need of comprehensive change," Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said in a statement. "I informed Mike McDaniel this morning that he has been relieved of his duties as head coach."

The Dolphins went 35-33 under McDaniel, reaching the playoffs in his first two seasons but losing in the first round each time. Miami missed the postseason in 2024 after being eliminated by the Jets in the regular-season finale. This year, their postseason hopes ended with a loss to Pittsburgh in Week 15, ensuring that their 25-year playoff-win drought would continue.

"When I took this job, I had a vision of a team that was bonded together and played with passion and energy on the path to winning championships," McDaniel said in a statement. "I gave everything I had for that goal. I'm disappointed, especially for the fans, that we did not have better results on the field."

Miami parted ways with longtime general manager Chris Grier on Oct. 31 and began its search for a new general manager this week. But a disjointed finish to the season that saw former first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa get benched proved the final straw for Ross.

"I love Mike and want to thank him for his hard work, commitment, and the energy he brought to our organization," Ross said in his statement. "Mike is an incredibly creative football mind whose passion for the game and his players was evident every day. I wish him and his family the best moving forward."

McDaniel, 42, arrived in Miami in 2022 after one season as San Francisco's offensive coordinator. Credited with adding inventive wrinkles to the 49ers' run game, the first-time head coach was billed as the creative mind who, along with Tagovailoa, was supposed to lift the Dolphins out of years of mediocrity.

Initially, things appeared to be heading that way.

McDaniel won 20 of his first 33 games, including a 3-0 start during his first year with wins over Baltimore, Buffalo and New England. He took the Dolphins to the playoffs that season and nearly beat the Bills with rookie Skylar Thompson starting in place of the concussed Tagovailoa.

His off-the-cuff jokes, idiosyncratic sayings and flashy style were a refreshing deviation from the approach of many other head coaches — but they were also initially met with needed results on the field.

Tagovailoa had credited McDaniel with rebuilding his confidence after former Dolphins coach Brian Flores tore it down as a young quarterback. Tagovailoa said last year that the constant criticism early in his career left him doubting himself. He was the fifth pick in the 2020 draft and won the starting job, but was benched twice as a rookie and faced uncertainty his second year amid speculation the Dolphins were seeking a trade for Deshaun Watson.

"To put it in simplest terms," Tagovailoa said in a 2024 interview on "The Dan LeBatard Show," if you woke up every morning and I told you you suck at what you did, that you don't belong doing what you do, that you shouldn't be here, that this guy should be here, that you haven't earned this right. ... And then you have somebody else come in and tell you, 'Dude, you are the best fit for us, you are accurate, you are the best.' How would it make you feel listening to one or the other?"

With McDaniel tailoring Miami's offense to his strengths, Tagovailoa led the NFL's top offense in 2023, throwing for a league-best 4,624 yards and 29 touchdowns. He led the league in 2024 with a 72.9 completion rate.

Since that season, which ended in a 26-7 loss in a frigid wild-card game at Kansas City, the Dolphins have gone 15-19, and appear far from the franchise that just a couple of years ago spoke of contending for a Super Bowl.

They haven't won a playoff game since 2000, the longest active drought in the NFL. And they have made headlines more for culture issues in the past year than on-field success.

Tyreek Hill, the star receiver who the Dolphins acquired from the Chiefs in 2022, took himself out of last year's regular-season finale and later told reporters "I'm out," expressing frustration with not making the playoffs for the first time in his career.

Hill — who suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 4 — later apologized, walked back those comments and stated his commitment to the Dolphins. But his actions seemed to reflect behind the scenes culture issues with the Dolphins in 2024, which included instances of players repeatedly showing up late to meetings.

McDaniel, Grier and veteran players said during the offseason that many of those issues had been addressed, and they commended the new team camaraderie that they hoped would help them get off to a fast start in 2025.

The Dolphins opened the season with a 33-8 drubbing by Indianapolis and ended it with another blowout loss to New England. Now, they head into another offseason of uncertainty.

"Eventually, like everybody else in this league, you're not entitled to this position," McDaniel said Monday. "If I'm not able to win regular-season games, playoff games and Super Bowls, eventually the job won't be mine."

___

This story has been corrected to show that McDaniel was 35-33 as Dolphins coach, not 35-32.

For 18 teams who didn't make the playoffs, the NFL offseason has begun. That includes some of the league's most high-profile franchises.

Here is an in-depth look at each team, from how their 2025 season went and what their salary cap and free agent situations look like to their draft capital and glaring needs.

AFC East: Bills | Dolphins | Patriots | Jets AFC North: Ravens | Bengals | Browns | Steelers AFC South: Texans | Colts | Jaguars | Titans AFC West: Broncos | Chiefs | Raiders | Chargers NFC East: Cowboys | Giants | Eagles | Commanders NFC North: Bears | Lions | Packers | Vikings NFC South: Falcons | Panthers | Saints | Buccaneers NFC West: Cardinals | Rams | 49ers | Seahawks

(Click the team name for the full preview.)

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins will start completely fresh with a new regime as the team fired head coach Mike McDaniel. At first, it seemed as if McDaniel might have done enough over the second half of the season to keep his job as head coach, thanks to an improved run game and the team never appearing to quit despite the rough start. Miami now has a chance to pivot from McDaniel's Tua-centric style of offense, but due to the significant investment in that approach, it might not be a quick or easy path out.

New York Jets

The Jets are hoping that this timeline will mirror the Detroit Lions, where Aaron Glenn came from as defensive coordinator. Detroit went 3-13-1 in Dan Campbell's first season before a 9-8 record in Year 2. Though unlike the Lions, the Jets will need to find a quarterback. Justin Fields was signed to potentially be that player, but he lasted until only Week 11 before he was replaced. With a ton of draft capital and salary cap space, 2025 could be seen as more of a Year 0 for the Jets and this regime.

Baltimore Ravens

Many of the bones that made the Ravens a Super Bowl contender are still in place, headlined by quarterback Lamar Jackson. But Baltimore now has another offseason of figuring out what went wrong. Only this time, it comes much earlier than anticipated with a few more questions that need to be answered — including, for the first time in 18 years, what comes next at head coach after the Ravens fired John Harbaugh.

Cincinnati Bengals

After another disappointing, injury-ridden year, the Bengals will keep Zac Taylor as head coach and Duke Tobin as de facto general manager and try to figure out how to build out a defense and more offensive structure around their three best players, Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Cleveland Browns

This Browns' season was never going to be about success in 2025. Cleveland seemingly hit on many of the non-quarterback 2025 draft picks — tight end Harold Fannin Jr. and linebacker Carson Schwesinger will be top contenders for Rookie of the Year on each side of the ball, if not outright winners — while the Browns picked up a ton of future draft capital, entering the 2026 draft with two first-round picks. Kevin Stefanski is out as head coach, but general manager Andrew Berry will stay on to oversee what the next era of the Browns might be.

Indianapolis Colts

It would have been nearly impossible to think the Colts' 2025 season would end up here after how it started. The Colts were first in point differential through the first 10 weeks of the season, and 28th from Week 12 on. With Daniel Jones injured and signed to only a one-year deal, plus having no first-round pick, the Colts find themselves in a much tougher offseason situation than anyone could have imagined midway through November.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans had hope after drafting QB Cam Ward with the first overall draft pick in 2025, but things never completely came together. Ward flashed, but a lack of talent, especially at receiver, kept Tennessee's offense from finding its stride. Head coach Brian Callahan was fired after Week 6 with a 1-5 record, 3-14 overall in two seasons with the Titans. Now, Tennessee will search for the next head coach in an attempt to get the most out of Ward and build up a roster that has a young offense while featuring one of the oldest defenses in the league by snap-weighted age.

Kansas City Chiefs

Under normal circumstances, this season might have been just a small step back for a perennial Super Bowl contender — a chance to regroup and go again. But given Travis Kelce's age and the late-season ACL tear for Patrick Mahomes, and now grave domestic violence allegations against Rashee Rice, this feels like a bigger moment — the end of an era of this version of the Chiefs. It might not be, but for the first time in the Mahomes era, the Chiefs don't feel inevitable. This offseason will be the first and an important step in trying to get that feeling back.

Las Vegas Raiders

By hiring Pete Carroll, the entire idea behind the 2025 Raiders centered on having a well-coached team that raised the floor of the talent on the roster. It was immediately apparent that would not be the case. Now the Raiders have the first overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft and will be looking for a new head coach with Carroll one-and-done, staring down a complete rebuild the franchise tried to avoid with last offseason's moves.

Dallas Cowboys

As good as Dak Prescott and the offense were, the Cowboys were one of the league's worst defenses the entire season and ultimately fired coordinator Matt Eberflus. Due to the struggles, Dallas traded for Quinnen Williams at the deadline. Williams is a fantastic player and immediately made an impact for the Cowboys, but it cost a 2026 second-round draft pick, leaving Dallas with no Day 2 picks this year, and a 2027 first-round pick. The offense wasn't enough to make up for the defensive deficiencies and the Cowboys missed the playoffs in a season when playoff spots felt more wide open than ever.

New York Giants

For the third straight season, the Giants are looking at a top-six pick in the draft. While some of the young talent was tantalizing, the Giants didn't have close to a full competitive roster. After going 2-8 this past season, Brian Daboll was fired as head coach. The Giants now need a new head coach, and have decided general manager Joe Schoen will stick around.

Washington Commanders

After a season when everything broke right for the Commanders, just about everything went wrong in 2025. Last season, Washington went 7-2 in games decided by seven points or fewer. The Commanders were 0-5 in those games this past season. Washington finished the season in the bottom five of defensive DVOA. Now defensive coordinator Joe Whitt and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury are not coming back next season. While the Commanders still have the bones of the impressive 2024 team — and a likely healthy Jayden Daniels set to return — this is a franchise that will have to step back and retool a bit earlier than expected.

Detroit Lions

A 9-8 record is disappointing given where the Lions had been, but this is still a team that finished third in DVOA — it was not a total disaster. Detroit finished third in yards per play on offense, though there were times when the limits of Jared Goff as a quarterback were more exposed than in years past. A shaky offense forced Campbell to take over play-calling in the middle of the season and the Lions will look for a new offensive coordinator in the offseason. The Lions still had the eighth-best point differential in the league, better than NFC playoff teams such as the 49ers, Eagles, Packers, Bears and Panthers. It's hardly a consolation prize, but this team is still on the right track.

Minnesota Vikings

Expectations were high for the Vikings coming off a 14-win season in 2024. However, the main goal of 2025 was to get as much information as possible on quarterback J.J. McCarthy. Minnesota disappointed and also did not get a clear evaluation of McCarthy as a quarterback. Despite that, the Vikings still finished above their win total and over .500. That was mostly thanks to a Brian Flores defense that ranked third in DVOA. Flores is a free agent, who could be hired elsewhere as a head coach or defensive coordinator. If most of the pieces stay in place, the Vikings remain a well-structured team that is just average quarterback play away from contending.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons won the final game of the regular season to reach a three-way tie in record at the top of the NFC South. But Atlanta's win sent Carolina to the playoffs, while the Falcons officially finished third in the division and fired head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot. The issue with Atlanta over the past two seasons was a clear misevaluation of where the team was and how to build the roster around it. A four-game win streak wasn't enough to salvage the season. Neither were the individual bright spots, like Drake London and Bijan Robinson. Even the defense impressed in stretches, but it was never enough to make the Falcons feel like a franchise with a coherent plan and path forward.

New Orleans Saints

Framing the 2025 season as a success for the Saints would be a stretch, but there's a lot more to like than would meet the eye. First-year head coach Kellen Moore laid a solid foundation for his offense, and the Saints' defense reached the top half of the league in DVOA under coordinator Brandon Staley. Tyler Shough was 22nd among quarterbacks in EPA per play but was in the top 10 over the final five weeks of the regular season when the Saints went 4-1.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs were 6-2 at their Week 9 bye and wound up missing the playoffs. There was a lot of attention given to Baker Mayfield's dropoff after the bye, but the Bucs went from 13th in EPA per play to only 18th. However, Tampa Bay dropped from sixth in EPA per play on defense before the bye — aided by a strong run defense — to 28th post-bye. The Bucs can hope that better health leads to more success in 2026, but there should be some reflection on what went wrong and what needs to be fixed to keep the franchise moving forward. The Bucs have decided to retain head coach Todd Bowles, though they fired offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard, QB coach Thad Lewis and special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey.

Arizona Cardinals

Offensively, things never clicked. Kyler Murray was in and out of the lineup with injuries, which ultimately ended his season early. Now there are big questions about his future with the franchise. There were bright spots on defense like rookie cornerback Denzel Burke and free-agent signing Josh Sweat, but injuries hamstrung this team all over. Jonathan Gannon was let go as head coach after three seasons, none of them over .500, and a 15-36 record.

Minnesota United head coach Eric Ramsay is accepting the same position with West Bromwich Albion, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported on Thursday.

Ramsay, 34, has led Minnesota United to consecutive Western Conference semifinals appearances. The Welshman left his role as an assistant coach at Manchester United to join the Loons in March 2024, making him the youngest head coach in MLS.

Assistant coach Cam Knowles is considered a frontrunner to be Minnesota United's next head coach, per the newspaper.

On Tuesday, West Bromwich Albion fired head coach Ryan Mason with the club just a few points above the relegation zone.

The 2025 fantasy football season has come and gone, but the offseason is just beginning. Fantasy analyst Joel Smyth will go over the potential RB moves in NFL free agency that will drastically shift the fantasy outlook for 2026. Which running backs could land in new and improved spots, and which teams are primed to bring in a new player?

Most Likely Teams to Sign a Free Agent RB1. Kansas City Chiefs

None of these four teams are necessarily a bad option, but Kansas City would be the best. Any offense led by Patrick Mahomes, even coming off an ACL tear, brings immense value. Kareem Hunt, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Isiah Pacheco have all posted top-20 fantasy seasons as part of the Chiefs offense since 2017. Even more importantly, Andy Reid has 10 seasons where a RB has scored 18+ PPR PPG, as his offense will accept a workhorse back if they have the ability.

2. New Orleans Saints

The Saints are an intriguing No. 2. Once an aging Alvin Kamara went down, the Saints never found a consistent answer at the position, leading to the lowest fantasy points by RBs on the season. Kellen Moore was also 32nd in producing fantasy RB points in 2023 with the Chargers and an aging Austin Ekeler. So why are they No. 2? Well, the Moore-led offenses of the 2024 Eagles and 2021/2022 Cowboys all finished top-six. It's a fast, productive offense that found its groove with Tyler Shough at quarterback mid-way through the season.

3. Minnesota Vikings

The quarterback situation is … not ideal. However, coaching is beautiful, and the offensive line is just as good. Unlike the two teams above, Minnesota ranks as one of the best run-blocking offensive lines, finishing third in Run Block Win Rate. Aaron Jones Sr. and Jordan Mason are both under contract for 2026 but Jones could be let go to clear cap space.

4. Houston Texans

The Texans offensive line is the biggest factor in slotting them fourth. They will need to make multiple offseason moves, as well as getting healthy, to fix their line, which ranked 32nd in Run Block Win Rate in 2025. Fourth-round rookie Woody Marks flashed in moments throughout the season as the Houston defense helped control the game and keep the Texans' offense in possession for extended periods. It would still be a net positive to land in Houston over many other destinations.

Please land elsewhereBreece Hall

For the first time in his career, Breece Hall ran for 1,000 yards. His two best seasons came as a rookie, which ended short because of an ACL tear, and the following season in 2023, where 55% of his fantasy points came through the air. In his four seasons with New York, the Jets rank 32nd in scoring offense, yet Hall has been at worst RB21 in PPG. He's a bellcow back with incredible pass-catching skills who has only been given 20 goal-line carries in his career, not because he doesn't have the role, but because New York is never there. If one of the most talented backs in the NFL lands anywhere else, his RB2 overall season from 2023 could return in a hurry.

Kenneth Walker III

Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs ranked second and third in missed tackles forced per attempt this season. The only player above them was fantasy bust Kenneth Walker III, ranking No. 1 for the second straight season. The talent is there, the role is not. Seattle had one of the lowest RB target shares and gave nearly all the goal-line carries to Zach Charbonnet under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. As an NFL RB, Walker was great, but he needs a new scene to get back to being a fantasy RB1 like in 2024. At the end of the day, fantasy RBs win you games based on their receiving and red-zone work, not talent alone. He doesn't need a bellcow role, just more valuable volume.

Best if they stay putJavonte Williams, Cowboys

Javonte Williams landed in Dallas last offseason on a one-year, prove-it deal, as the once sought-after RB garnered next to nothing in free agency after his extreme knee injury in 2022. After finally looking healthy, Williams became the fantasy sleeper RB of the Year. If you only isolate his complete games in 2025, he would have ranked as the RB9 on 16.2 PPG this season. Jerry Jones wants his RB to return, and it would be the ideal scenario for Williams, who has bellcow volume on an elite offense, a rare combo.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said re-signing RB Javonte Williams is at the top of their list of offseason priorities: "We want to bring him back and sign him to a multiple-year deal."

— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) January 7, 2026

Travis Etienne Jr., Jaguars

Similar to Williams, Etienne managers who drafted him in August took advantage of the doubted RB following a rough 2024 season. The Jaguars star finished as the overall RB3 in 2023, but was drafted as the ADP RB36 on Yahoo in 2025. Coaching can make an immense difference in fantasy football. The best example of that this season was Jacksonville's new head coach Liam Coen. It's hard to come by 13-TD seasons, making Etienne staying put the best decision to avoid another setback year.

Rico Dowdle, Panthers

Although Rico Dowdle fizzled out to end the year, I believe his best scenario is sticking in Carolina. Dave Canales is a good coach for fantasy RBs and gave Dowdle underrated volume at the end of the season, even with Chuba Hubbard healthy. There were a couple of games where Hubbard was more involved, but overall, Dowdle ranked 12th in RB touch share once Hubbard returned, equalling 16.6 touches per game.

J.K. Dobbins, Broncos

After a full offseason of RJ Harvey hype, Denver trusted J.K. Dobbins by a significant margin over the rookie RB. In comparison to Harvey, Dobbins was 35% better in yards per carry this season behind the same (strong) offensive line. At 27 years old, off multiple severe injuries, it's best for the veteran RB to stay in Denver than risk becoming fantasy irrelevant elsewhere.

Kenneth Gainwell, Steelers

Any RB that has a breakout fantasy season shouldn't desire to leave. If Aaron Rodgers returns, Gainwell's receiving upside should stay in a backfield that was a true 50/50 with Jaylen Warren. Gainwell ranked sixth among RBs in targets per game behind only fantasy RB1s.

MrBeast and Thea Booysen got engaged on Christmas Day in 2024

The groom-to-be revealed to Entertainment Tonight whether or not he'll share his wedding on-camera

"I'm always in front of a camera, and so, for the most part, my relationship is one of those things I just keep behind the camera," he said

MrBeast's wedding won't be a spectacle.

The 27-year-old YouTuber, whose real name is James Stephen "Jimmy" Donaldson, has been wedding planning with his fiancée, Thea Booysen, 28, since they got engaged just over a year ago. But unlike the groom-to-be's regular lifestyle, minimal content from his ceremony is expected to be shared.

In an interview shared by Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday, Jan. 7, MrBeast revealed whether or not his wedding will be televised for fans to watch.

"It's been amazing," MrBeast said of being engaged. "I love my fiancée very dearly, and I think she helps keep me grounded and makes me a better person. Maybe we'll take a photo at the wedding, but no."

Being the highest-paid content creator with more than 459 million subscribers on YouTube, the host of the popular Prime Video competition series Beast Games, and founder of the chocolate and snack company Feastables, MrBeast's life is largely in the spotlight. However, he doesn't want his wedding to be in the limelight.

"It's just like my whole life is on the internet. I mean, I film 28 days a month," MrBeast said. "I'm always in front of a camera, and so, for the most part, my relationship is one of those things I just keep behind the camera 'cause it's just like everything else is in front of it."

In August, MrBeast shared his vision for more personal, intimate affair during his appearance on the Today show.

"Hopefully, very private, not many fans finding the location and walking up," MrBeast said at the time of his wedding plans. "But yeah, I'm excited."

PEOPLE exclusively revealed that MrBeast and Booysen got engaged on Christmas Day in 2024. When the influencer popped the question, he purposefully did so privately, with them being surrounded only by family.

"My friends thought I would want to propose in a very public way, like some sort of spectacle at the Super Bowl or somewhere else really big like that, but I knew that I wanted it to be the opposite, to be really private and intimate," MrBeast told PEOPLE shortly after his proposal.

From the get-go, the couple has been clear in their intention to keep their wedding private too.

"This will definitely be more family and friends — definitely more private," MrBeast said of his nuptials. "I don't take much vacation because of how hard I work, so I definitely want to make sure that the wedding will be a time to celebrate with her and spend time with friends and family who we really enjoy being with. It will be the ultimate way to take some time away and enjoy things."

At the time, Booysen revealed that she and her fiancé have considered having their wedding on an island.

"We're thinking of doing it somewhere on an island where we're far away from just about everybody," she told PEOPLE. "We're not going to try and have a big, extravagant wedding. It's going to be nice, but it's certainly going to be intimate [with] close family and friends."
