The weekend's bomb cyclone is blamed for at least four deaths: one in Georgia, one in Tennessee and two in North Carolina. Those deaths adding to a rising toll from the previous weekend's devastating storm - Winter Storm Fern has now claimed at least 93 lives.
The National Weather Service office for Raleigh, North Carolina, warned that wind chills will drop early Monday to near zero.
Heavy Snow In North Carolina
James City recorded 18 inches of snow, while Swansboro recorded 17 inches, the weather service reported.
There was a dramatic scene in North Carolina's Outer Banks as a house fire raged on Sunday morning. It happened after a night of snow and strong winds that some described as "like a hurricane."
With temperatures well below freezing and winds roaring in from the coast, first responders faced difficult conditions to put out the blaze.
Though the cause of the fire is still unclear, Nags Head Fire Rescue confirmed: "At this time, we know that the house was unoccupied and there have been no injuries."

The storm also caused a mess of collisions along Interstate 85, north of Charlotte on Saturday evening. The National Guard was called in to help clear out vehicles.
More than 1,100 collisions were recorded by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and two people died.
Freezing In The Sunshine State

The Tampa-St. Petersburg area in Florida saw snow flurries, while temperatures dropped to the 20s in the Panhandle and 30s in South Florida on Sunday. That left cold-stunned iguanas lying motionless on the ground.
Iguanas in South Florida go dormant in the cold and though they usually wake when temperatures warm, the reptiles can die after more than a day of extreme cold.
The Sunshine State saw some of the coldest temperatures in more than 15 years, with record lows in Daytona, Orlando, Miami and West Palm Beach.
Monday's temperatures are so low across Florida, the National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center delivered this stunner: "This has resulted in an extremely rare situation in which it is colder across the Sunshine State than over Montana in the depth of winter."

Flight cancellations exceeded 2,800 in the U.S. on Saturday, with at least another 1,800 on Sunday, according to FlightAware, a flight tracking and data company. More than 800 of those Sunday cancellations were for flights departing from or arriving at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
