A WOMAN has tragically died after she was hit by an HGV while driving a mobility scooter.

The 63-year-old was utilizing a pedestrian crossing when the horror unfolded in Rochdale, Manchester at present.

Police say they have been referred to as around midday after studies of the crash involving a lorry outdoors a Lidl.

Horrified onlookers stated the lady's dying was simply "awful".

A man, 32, was arrested after the crash and remained in custody tonight.

Higher Manchester Police stated: "Officers have been referred to as to studies that a HGV had collided with a lady who was crossing the street at a pedestrian crossing point on Spotland Street, Rochdale, simply before the junction with Excessive Road.

"The emergency providers attended but tragically a 63-year-old feminine pedestrian had sadly passed away."

MEN reported the lady was driving a mobility scooter as she crossed the street.

The driving force of the truck was arrested on suspicion of inflicting dying by careless driving.

Police Constable Philip Drummond of GMP's Critical Collision Investigation Unit stated: "Tragically a lady has died after the incident earlier right now.

"My ideas are together with her family and associates at this devastating time.

"We're already following up on various strains of enquiry and would urge anybody with info to return ahead to assist us.

"We want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or might have dash-cam or CCTV footage.

"The investigation is in the early levels so any info, regardless of how huge or small, might really assist us piece collectively what happened."
